Goal Waster

After he got out of his shower, he checked his phone and saw the email that Jurg had sent them. It was an extremely detailed representation of the tactics that he had revised with them. It showed them how to move when they were out of possession, how he wanted them to move when they were out of possession, although he didn't force it on anyone. He didn't want to 'limit their creativity'.

At another section of the email, he highlighted Sunderland's key players and how to exploit some of the weaknesses that he had observed from them. Omari smiled when he read everything.

Usually, Jurg wasn't like this, he explained the tactics that he wanted them to use during the game but he never went this far to help them understand it. From the gossip he heard within the squad, Jurg only started doing this when Michael started watching them train.

While most of the players saw him as him kissing ass, Omari and a few other players were clearheaded and mature enough to know what was going on. Jurg was trying to help them get scouted, albeit behind the scenes.

He wanted them to understand the tactics better so that they could player considerably better to how they played normally. Even though he acted like he didn't care, he really wanted the best for his players.

Since Omari understood Jurg's intentions, there was no reason for him not to take advantage of it. After all, Jurg would only have wasted his time if he didn't accept his help.

He studied the tactics for carefully for a couple of hours before ultimately falling asleep. Even though he loved playing football, he hardly knew anyone who could boldly proclaim that they enjoyed the boring part of it.

Omari woke up early in the morning and went out to train. As per his regular routine he overslept and woke up late for school.

School passed really fast for Omari today. Nothing eventful happened, it was the same old thing.

As soon as school finished, he walked with Ayanfe to the training area and went straight to the locker room. He met Jurg and Steve talking to some other early comers. After about thirty minutes, the rest of the squad had arrived.

Jurg went through some last minute tactics with them while they changed into their jerseys. Shortly after Jurg finished revising the tactics with them, a match official came and told them that the match was to begin.

'We go to the north east of England, a small distance from the North Sea in Yorkshire to watch as two teams comprising of talents, the future of their respective football clubs walk out and go head to head on the pitch'

'What do you think about the lineups today Tim?'

'Well, a notable absence from the Middlesbrough team is Omari Hutchingson. This time though, he is on the bench. It seems that Jurg has chosen Ethan Alvarez to start instead'

'Questionable decision made by the manager. I'm sure that he knew what he was doing when he made the decision. The Sunderland team look to be in full strength. The return of their captain, Ben Davinson would surely boost their morale. The young midfielder should help his team control the tempo of this match'

All the starting players went out on to the pitch and assumed their formations while the players on the bench like Omari went to their team's respective area.

It was a familiar yet strange feeling for Omari to walk to the bench. The bench which was warmed so much by his butt cheeks had become a stranger to them.

He had a small moment of melancholy which was interrupted by the referee blowing his whistle to signify the beginning of the match.

His company on the bench wasn't bad. There were a few usuals who took their place on the bench. Tylen and Conrad being the latest addition to this group. Asides from them, there was Steve, Jurg and finally... Michael Carrack.

Michael's presence meant so much to Omari that he almost didn't even mind starting on the bench.

He tried scouting around to see if Amber came but due to his limited view point, he didn't see much. A small sigh escaped his lips as his attention returned to what was happening on the pitch.

Their recent form and quality of players taken into account, Middlesbrough were undoubtedly the favorites to win the match. In a game of football however, one must never say never.

The referee blew his whistle and the match started.

As expected, Middlesbrough started out on the front foot. They dominated possession and started playing high press attacking football. The Sunderland striker was forced into his own half before the end of the second minute.

Middlesbrough got the first chance of the evening. Enjoying a nice spell in possession, the midfielders were just tossing the ball around while waiting for Sunderland's defense to open up.

David passed the ball to Jack who dribbled forward for a few steps. He casually scanned his front and sent aa defense splitting pass to the left wing.

Ethan Willaims (Person starting ahead of Omari) took a beautiful first touch, cutting the ball back, catching the center back marking him off guard and creating space for a shot in the process. He drove the ball forward a little, picked his spot and drove the ball into the bottom right corner...

At least that was what he intended to do. Instead his shot went wide of the post drawing multiple sighs of frustration and a pained moan from Jack. Only God could understand the pains that Midfielders went through when a beautiful chance created by them is wasted.

"That fucking-" Jurg was about to start raining profanities with Ethan being the focal point of all of them but he was interrupted by Michael.

"There's no use cursing him, if anything curse yourself. You were the one that gave the starting spot to a... a..." Michael searched his vocabulary for the least insulative word that he could call Ethan. "A goal waster"
