Tough Mornings

"AHHH!" 

The next morning started with the sound of Hua Yuling's blaring alarm clock buzzing and beeping uncontrollably, and as she groggily rolled over to silence the damn machine, her eyes flew wide like two giant golden suns. 

8:57am.

Hua Yuling quickly rushed out of her room and was greeted by a very put together image of Fei Ming, who was sitting on the same plush couch as yesterday with one hand typing away at the laptop on her lap and the other guiding a coffee mug to her mouth as she sipped her daily intake of caffeine. Fei Ming looked up at the very frantic Yuling, kind of shocked to see a side of her she hadn't seen in a while. For the past 6 years, all Fei Ming could recall was the perfect, spotless, pristine version of her broadcasted on the News. No one would have imagined that little miss perfect was like this behind the scenes; it amused her just at the thought.

"It's about time you woke up and turn that nuisance of an alarm off."

"Why didn't you wake me up then if it annoyed you!?"

"Oh I know not too poke the beast, especially in the morning, wouldn't wanna get kicked out already. Need I remind you of that one time on camp back in high school, the teachers strictly told us we had to be up by 7:00am and when I kindly went to wake my friend up…you actually smacked me! And then had the audacity to tell 5 more minutes! My hand hurt for the whole day after that!"

"Hey I apologised at least 30 times that day afterwards ok!"

Fei Ming pouted but continued on, "And don't forget that other time..," but Hua Yuling quickly came in to interrupt her.

"Ok ok!! I get it!! Well I gotta go, have fun with whatever you're doing"

"Preparing for an interview!"

"Ok, well have fun!" Hua Yuling blurted while rushing back towards her closet.

"Wait, do you wanna go out for dinner tonight!" Fei Ming yelled down the hallway.

"Yeah sure, I'll call you after work!"

Hua Yuling slid into her walk-in closet, donned a charcoal gray blazer that accentuated her waist and an impeccably tailored pair of pants with a crisp crease down the middle which showcased her naturally long legs and accessorized the outfit with some golden hoop earrings and a sophisticated white leather bag. She washed up hurriedly and walked towards the door with a hair tie hanging from her mouth and her hands grabbing at her luscious auburn hair which resulted in a loose ponytail. Lastly, while shuffling into a pair of black flats, she pulled out her phone to message her secretary.

'I'm eating at the office today, get me a toasted sandwich with coffee the way I like it' 

'Yes Ms Hua'

Hua Yuling swiped her keys off a counter, locked the door and then swirled them around her index finger as she stepped out.

"Good morning Ms Hua, today you have a meeting with the management department and Mr Xuan from Xuan Corporation will be coming in today at 3:00pm to discuss plans about the new project."

If anyone just saw this Hua Yuling, the person she was this morning would be the last thing you think of. It's almost like she's a completely different person while she's in a work environment and exuded an aura of power and confidence. 

"Got it."

"And all your paperwork is already on your desk, filed in descending order based on urgency and priority."

As Hua Yuling sits on her spinning black leather chair, in front of her large white desk with a keyboard and monitor on it, on the very top floor of a modern skyscraper, bathing in the warmth of the sun; it was the exact definition of CEO, hours just seemed to flow by. Then a familiar ring tone broke her concentration as her eyes fell onto her phone and pressed the big green button with a big grin. 

"Lili, you know how I said we were going to go out tonight..."

"Yeah?"

"Well… The company I was applying for called me just then and said they wanted to move my interview to today…. So I can't make it anymore!! I'm sorry!!!!"

"It's all good, don't worry about it Ming. We can just meet up another time!" 

"Thank you so so so much Lili! Sorry again, I'll make it up to you I promise."

"Trust me, it's fine, but you owe me lunch!'"

"Deal! I've got to go now, wish me luck!!!"

"Good luck! I'm sure you'll get in!"

After hanging up, Hua Yuling gently placed her phone face up and continued working away at her responsibilities, and before she knew it, it was already 2:48pm.
