Chapter 9 - Melissa Thought

I suddenly became someone's mistress, I knew that one day this time would come, but I never thought it would be this soon. But what else could I do, Lady Julia kept forcing Lady Alicia to get married, and because she couldn't stand her mother's pressure, Lady Alicia finally accepted the offer.

And that was that, Lady Alicia got married and I became someone's mistress.

The man Lady Alicia married was someone she had known for a long time, if it wasn't for the fact that Lady Alicia had known the man she was going to marry since long ago, she would never have done it.

The first time I saw that man, was during his wedding with Lady Alicia, I didn't have much of an impression of him when I first saw him. The man's name was Hiro, he was a handsome man with eyes that looked bored with everything.

From what Lady Alicia told me, Hiro was a kind man who didn't talk much. After we stayed together, I could understand what Lady Alicia was talking about. Just like Lady Alicia said, he doesn't talk much. But I don't see where the good in this guy is!

I mean, come on. Every day, he would only speak to us during breakfast or dinner. And even then, it was just a greeting! I don't know why, but his attitude of seemingly ignoring us annoyed me.

With his attitude like that, I'm sure he didn't know that I was actually his concubine. After that, I don't know when, but my attitude towards him started to become harsh.

One day, I asked Lady Alicia.

"Lady Alicia, I don't understand at all. What part of him do you think is good?"

"Well.... he' s a bit different from what I remember. But, Aunt Hermia said that he was like that because he lost his father and would return to normal later."

His father's death, huh? I know that just now.

"Even so, he shouldn't ignore his wife, right?"

"It's fine with me, I'm also more comfortable like this."

*sigh*

I could only sigh at Lady Alicia's answer, come to think of it, the attitudes of the two of them who didn't care much about anything around them were indeed similar.

It seems like I'm the only one who finds the current situation annoying. I know this marriage is just an act but....

Ah never mind, I don't care anymore. From that day on, I swore that I would not recognize myself as his mistress and would not recognize him as my husband.

I wonder if we'll continue like this until Lady Alicia decides to divorce him.

A month later, on a day that I thought would go on as usual. Hiro woke up late for the first time.

"Melissa, wake Hiro up and ask him if he'll drive us today as well."

"Yes, Lady Alicia."

Hearing Lady Alicia's words, I immediately went up to that bastard's room to wake him up.

Don't tell me he won't drive us now? That bastard.

I walked to his room while grumbling, when I arrived in front of his room, I straightened my face and feelings then knocked.

*Knock* *Knock*

"Come in, the door is unlocked."

I opened the door as soon as I heard that. I was a little surprised to see his appearance, his usual gloomy aura was completely gone, or maybe it was just my feelings?

I then smiled and said politely.

"I'm sorry if I woke you up, Mr. Hiro. But Lady Alicia told me to ask you, are you also going to take her today?"

He then replied to me with a puzzled face.

"Of course, I'll be right there. By the way, are you sick? You're not usually this polite."

Huh? So what if I'm a little polite?

"Of course not, you bastard! Hurry up and get your ass down! Don't make my lady wait."

I said that to him angrily and then slammed the door before I went out. Even though I had gone to the trouble of being polite to him since it was still early in the morning.

But, it felt a little strange. He's more expressive than usual, he also usually only answers me with a yes or no. But this time he asked me back, strange.

Not long after, he arrived at the dining table and had breakfast with us. Wait, why is he wearing that outfit? When Lady Alicia asked him, he just said "Just wanted to change the atmosphere. That's all.".

Strange, what's wrong with him? Even though he usually wears more formal clothes, why would he wear something like that?

"Hey, you don't cook meat?"

He then asked me.

"Shut up, be thankful that I cooked for you too."

I replied with annoyance, if it wasn't for Lady Alicia telling me to do it I wouldn't have done it.

Now he''s even commenting on the food I''ve cooked? He normally just ate the food I cooked quietly.

After that, he drove us to Lady Alicia's company as usual. I actually wanted to ask Lady Alicia about Hiro's sudden change of attitude, but since Lady Alicia didn't seem to care about it, I didn't bring it up.

Because Lady Julia invited Lady Alicia and Hiro to have a meal together, I went home alone, driven by the company's driver.

I was a little tired from doing all the paperwork Lady Alicia had to do, so when I got home I immediately headed to my room to rest. As I was heading to my room, I bumped into Hiro who came out of his room neatly dressed.

Where was he going this late in the afternoon dressed like that?

"Where are you going?"

"Auction House."

Auction House? Why would he go there?

"What do you want to do there? No, forget it. I don't have the energy to talk to you."

Unable to resist my fatigue, I decided to go to my room to rest.

After rolling around in my room while looking through fashion magazines, it was time for dinner. I rushed to the kitchen to prepare dinner, but why did I feel like it was too quiet? At this time of day, Lady Alicia was usually working on her files in the living room while watching TV.

Out of curiosity, I went upstairs to check Lady Alicia's room. However, no matter how many times I knocked, there was absolutely no answer from inside the room.

I went downstairs and decided to send Lady Alicia a message.

"Lady Alicia, are you out?"

After the message was sent, I immediately got a reply.

"Yeah, Hiro asked me out."

Huh!? That guy asked Lady Alicia out!? No way!

I sent a message to Lady Alicia again.

"Really?"

"Now we're having dinner together."

Eh...

What the hell is going on? That bastard who only talked to us at breakfast and dinner was asking Lady Alicia out?

As expected, there was something wrong with him. Unable to find an answer no matter how hard I thought, I decided to go to my room and sleep.

The next day, while I was cooking breakfast. Remembering that Hiro didn't like salad, I wondered what I should do.

Should I make him something else? Or should I just make him another salad?

But since he took Lady Alicia out yesterday, I thought it would be okay to do this once in a while. So I decided to make him an omelet.

"Melissa, no more salad, please!"

"Shut up, or I'll give a poison to your food!"

When he yelled at me like that, I suddenly felt like giving him another salad. But in the end, I still made him an omelette.

Even today, he' s the same as yesterday. His sluggish gaze and gloomy aura had indeed gone. In the middle of our conversation, because I couldn't contain my curiosity, I finally asked.

"You're very talkative today. No, not just today, but yesterday as well. What's wrong with you, you don't usually talk this much."

"Really? For me, I'm just acting like usual."

He replied to me in a casual tone.

"Hmm..."

I tried to suppress him with my gaze, but it seems to be useless. Maybe he has a mistress and that made him change?

"Whatever, I don't care even if you have a mistress or something."

I said that to provoke his reaction.

"Oy! What do you mean by that?"

"Nothing."

He sounded a little angry at my words, but I ignored him. His reaction seems suspicious.

After that, Hiro said that he was going out. But before he left, he gave us something. It was a pair of necklaces that had snow-shaped pendants.

He gave the white one to Lady Alicia and the black one to me. I wanted to ask him why he bought us something like this, but he quickly ran away and said that Lady Alicia would explain it.

"Lady Alicia, what the hell is this?"

Lady Alicia handed the necklace to me, then said.

"Just accept it, he bought it for us."

I accepted the necklace from Lady Alicia, after staring at it for a while, I thought it was not bad at all, at least he had good taste. I then said to Lady Alicia.

"Lady Alicia, do you know why he''s suddenly acting like that?"

Lady Alicia thought for a moment before saying.

"I don't know, it's just. It seems like he''s decided to become a pilot again."

Pilot? He wants to be a pilot? So that's why he's at the Auction House?

"Did he ever want to be a pilot?"

"Yes, as I recall he always wanted to be a pilot. He was even one of the best cadets at the academy, however, after his father died. He stayed away from anything related to pilots, and even dropped out of the academy."

I didn't know about that, Lady Alicia did mention his father's death, but I didn't know it was that bad. Was it because he was finally able to escape from the past that made him change? But what caused him to escape from his past?

Hmm..... No matter how hard I thought, nothing came to mind other than that he might have a mistress.

I gave up.

I decided to keep the necklace in my room, then went back to watching TV in the living room.

As Lady Alicia and I were enjoying our relaxing time, a guest suddenly rang the bell. I stood up to check, but Lady Alicia stopped me. When she returned, I asked out of curiosity.

"Lady Alicia, who is it?"

"The delivery guy from the Auction House, they're delivering the Mecha that Hiro bought last night."

Mecha, eh? Looks like he''s really serious about becoming a pilot.

Shortly after that, lunchtime came, and I was eating my lunch with Lady Alicia. I also cooked for that bastard, but it looks like he hasn't returned yet.

"Lady Alicia, do you know where Hiro is?"

"No, I don't know."

"You didn't ask him?"

"No."

Really, sometimes I wish Lady Alicia could be a little more aggressive.

After finishing our lunch, Lady Alicia went back to working on her files and I went back to watching TV beside her. A while later, Hiro returned with some ice cream.

I complimented him and took 2 ice creams from the container he brought, does he know that I like ice cream? Whtever.

I enjoyed the ice cream while watching TV. And before I knew it, Hiro had disappeared again.

"Lady Alicia, where is Hiro?"

"Checking on his Mecha."

"Oh...."

The mecha from earlier, huh....

After that day, I felt that things had gotten better. Hiro drove us every day, and he sometimes took us out for lunch or dinner, and sometimes he bought me ice cream.

I wonder if he really already knows that I like ice cream?

I thought our days would continue to go well like that, but one day, while we were having dinner after he accompanied us to meet a client.

He said he wanted to go out and I replied with sarcasm and jokes like I usually did. However, after Lady Alicia asked where he was going, I got angry at his answer.

"Huh!? What kind of pilot stuff are you doing in there? Playing seed planting with the woman from the brothel?"

"No, I;m not gonna do that."

This time I really seriously asked him, but he only replied briefly to me and then looked at Lady Alicia. Somehow that made me even more upset.

Why would he want to go to the northern district!? As far as I know, that place is dangerous, and also...it's a place where many men and women can do "that thing" freely.

I was hoping for Lady Alicia to refuse him, but it was in vain. Lady Alicia gave him permission after making him promise a few things.

He then said goodbye to us.

"I'm leaving."

"Yeah..."

"Have fun with your mistress."

And I just said sarcasm to him before he left.

Now, here I am. Waiting for him to return in the living room with Lady Alicia, the clock was already almost 10pm.

*Huam*

I was so sleepy.

"Lady Alicia, why are we doing this?"

"I told you that you can just go to your room and sleep, right?"

I really didn't want to do this, but I also felt bad about letting Lady Alicia do this on her own. I sighed and asked Lady Alicia again.

"Why are you doing this, Lady Alicia?"

Lady Alicia was silent for a moment before answering slowly.

"Well, you know....a few days ago he said. Even though he's only my husband in name, he'll still do his duty as a husband. So, I think I'll also do my duty as his wife. That's why I'll at least wait for him until midnight."

Hee..... That bastard said something like that? It seems like he's really changed. Does that mean I should also do my duty as his mistress? But there was still one thing I was curious about.

"Lady Alicia."

"Hmm?"

I called out to Lady Alicia and she looked at me, I looked into her eyes before asking.

"Why did you believe him so much?"

I was still curious as to why Lady Alicia trusted him so much, even though I had known Lady Alicia since the age of 8. But Lady Alicia had known Hiro since the age of 5, was there something that had happened between them for Lady Alicia to believe him like that?

Hearing my question, Lady Alicia averted her eyes and was silent for a moment. She then answered without looking at me.

"He's not the type to lie about things like that, that's all I can say."

I don't understand, but.... It seems like there really was something that had happened between them. Well, since Lady Alicia decided to do her duty as a wife, then I guess I'll do the same. I may not trust Hiro, but I trust Lady Alicia.

Perhaps, when Hiro comes back, I will tell him that I am his mistress.

After waiting until midnight, Hiro still hadn't returned. So, we decided to go back to our rooms.
