I Dare Not Hope

Hi! I am Scarlet. A girl searching for a new beginning after losing two people that I love. Moving to another place and running away from my past that haunted me was the only solution I could think of to survive. However, fate had another plan arranged for me. My life turned more complicated when I met them, Daniel and Nathan. I was not supposed to fall for him, but I did. There was no turning my back on love. Daniel and Nathan were total opposites. Although they were both successful in their own rights, they still possessed different characteristics that made them attractive in their own way. Daniel was the ideal man to love because of his similarity to my brother, Harry. Smart, down to earth, and with a gentle heart. While Nathan was the man to avoid, I could not entrust my heart to him despite the strong attraction we shared. A rich, manipulative and arrogant womanizer. Which one should I choose? Would entering a relationship help me move on from my past? Would our love be stronger than the obstacles in our path? Should I dare hope that I would have a happy ever after? Please give Scarlet a chance. Let her tell you her story. Add her to your reading list. Enjoy. But, what if… something in her past was the key to her future. -------------- "I told you before, I'm now with Daniel," I uttered with conviction, trying to convince him. "I told you that you're making a mistake of stringing Daniel along," he insisted. “It is clear that Daniel is falling for you, but I know you don’t feel the same. He is a good man, and what you’re doing with Daniel would only end badly." "Nathan, let me go," I said angrily, not wanting to be near him. "I don't know what you’re talking about, and you had no business with my affair with Daniel," I emphasized irritably. He released my left hand and gripped my jaw instead, forcing my head up. I tried to push him with my free hand but to no avail. "I'm talking about this." He lowered his head and claimed my lips in a punishing kiss. My mind was fighting not to respond with the onslaught of his mouth, but my body wanted the opposite. He pressed his body even closer than I ever thought possible, molding every inch of my body with his. I felt myself opening up to him, and he took advantage of this and plunged his tongue with mine. I became super aware of every contact of our skin. He adjusted his hands at the back of my nape and the other at my lower back, giving him more control of my body as his kisses became more demanding. My hands started having a mind of their own and began their exploration. I could feel the solid muscles in his arms and shoulders. My hand ended up in the back of his neck, clinging to him for support, as his hands started exploring my back. He slowly broke the kiss, both of us panting, trying to catch our breaths. I never felt like this before, this intense need to be kissed, to be touch. It exhilarated and frightened me at the same time. Why did I react like this to this man? I barely knew him, and I was not even sure if I like him. "I want you and you want me too.” He stated confidently taking my lips again for a rough kiss, and I welcomed it with a hunger I could not deny. I placed my hands on the back of his neck and pulled him closer. "The way you kissed and responded to my touch tells me how much you wanted this too." Finally, he released me and moved a step back. "That just proven my point. How can you go out with Daniel and just made out with me with such passion? Did you respond to his kiss the way you did to mine?" -------------- Thanks for supporting my book by adding it to your library, voting, gifts, to my top fans, and giving your feedback. Distinctive blue eyes

Back to the apartment, Gemma questioned why she saw Nathan leaving our table. I finally told her that I met him at the bar, but not the part that I made out with him. I also told her that he was just apologizing for what happened the other day at the diner.

I did not know if she bought it, but she did not question my explanation. I hated lying to her, but I was not ready to tell her about something I was proud of, and I vowed that it would never happen again, so there was no use for me to tell her about it.

"As I warned you before, he is someone you don't want to be messing with." Gemma reiterated her earlier warning. She told me some basic information she knew about him. He was one of the most seek out bachelor, with quite a flock of women swarming around him.

An heir to a multibillion industry, also known to be ruthless in his business dealings, but quite a ladies-man in his leisure time. A notorious womanizer in the public's eyes. Well, I certainly had a personal preview of that more than once.

"Elena Carter, the one in the diner, was the daughter of one of his investors. She was undergoing training under Nathan's supervision. They dated for a while before Nathan ended it as everyone expected." Gemma said as she sat at the kitchen counter, making herself comfortable.

I took two bottles of water from the ref and offered one to her before seating across from her. I knew talking to her would help me make sense of what was happening to me, but I felt like there were things better left unsaid.

"It was rumored that they were engaged to be married, but nobody confirmed it." Gemma continued as she took a sip from the bottle. "From the few times I saw Elena, I always knew she was a bitch, and I was glad you stood up to her." Gemma proudly said.

"I should have not done that. It was just that she got on my nerves." It was unprofessional, but her actions triggered it. In addition, I was still annoyed that he did not even acknowledge me at that time. Still, I had no reason to be irritated with his actions.

Apparently, I was wrong. Nathan clearly remembered me, now I was the one wary that he was up to something no good if his last words meant anything at all. How could I avoid him? I would just have to be creative.

"I just want you to be aware of men like him. I don't want to see you get hurt." Gemma said concernedly. "I did see the way he looked at you. He seemed interested." Her words echoed in my mind.

She was older and wiser than I was, and she certainly had more experience than I had. If I knew what was good for me, I would listen to her. I would avoid Nathan at all cost, despite the attraction I felt for him. It would do me no good.

"I doubt that. Besides, men like him are not my type." Grabbing my bag and walking towards my room. I was certain that Nathan Hayes was not the man for me. He was very far from the ideal man on my mind.

"I hope so." Gemma walked to her room, but before entering, she yelled. "What about Daniel? Is he your type?"

I remained silent, unable to answer that question yet. Was he? I closed my door. What was actually my type? What was my ideal man? I pictured him to be like my brother, Harry. Responsible, kind, smart, loving, and loyal. Could I found someone like him? Maybe someone just like my dad and Harry.

Deep down, it felt as if I already found him, my ideal man, I just could not remember, just like the rest of my memories. No matter what I do, the feeling of being left behind and being alone was weighing on me. It was more than just losing my brother, there was something else. I just could not figure it out.

I laid down on my bed, unable to sleep. My mind was busy thinking of my past. I did remember many of my childhood memories. Recollecting the wonderful things my family did together. Then, how my brother made sure that I had everything I needed when our dad died.

Later that night, I was awakened again by a recurring dream. Did you ever experience having a dream that felt like it was actually happening, but as soon as you woke up you only recalled a portion of it? Bits and pieces.

In this particular vision, it always started with me alone sitting on a bench.

The shiny bright stars littered the dark clear skies while the moon took center stage.

Cold air tickles my skin as the gentle breeze produced soft hisses, breaking the haunting silence.

Concentrating on the task, scrutinizing from one view to another. I moved my fingers to the direction it needed to go.

The importance of capturing all the details, the lines, and curves, making sure that the colors emanated the right emotion.

Something I had perfected with time.

As I locked my eyes at my creation, like always it never failed to captivate me.

It gradually faded until I quickly roused from my deep slumber.

In my previous dreams, I never saw the totality of the dream. Just fragment images of distorted colors until it disappeared. I could never figure out what the dream was all about or why it kept on playing in my mind.

However, this time, the disturbing dream left me with a single lingering memory. Was this a sign of my memories coming back, or was this influence by a certain someone who had unwantedly entered my subconsciousness? How could I distinguish what was real from what was conjured by my imagination?

A Distinctive Blue Eyes. It felt real, but then again, it was just a dream.
