Chang Yu
This is a good novel, similar to “Library of Heaven’s Path” in terms of repeated face-slapping, comedy and OP MC with golden finger. It is better to take the novel as a light read and let the plot just wash over you, without getting deeply engaged. This is because the main focus is face-slapping, and the overall plot is just there to facilitate the former. Something I like in this book better than LoHP is that MC does not *****ly stir up trouble everywhere, rather most troubles result from human nature- greed, selfishness and narrowmindedness. Overall, worth a read for those seeking comedic relief (there are game elements with a level system in the novel so that’s another plus for me).
Hurhurhur. I thought that this novel would be one of those weird ones - and it is, but not in the way that I expected. Zhang ye, my bias, is (as my brother put it) a hot blooded Chinese nationalist who eloquently face smacks and scolds people. I couldn't agree more. For some reason, I always get attracted to those stories that are light hearted and face smacking. I blame it on the translators who opened up all of the holes for me to jump through. This novel is definitely on the top of the list with pretty long chapters and a steady updating schedule of about 12 everyday (Masshole [Massachusetts] resident here). It's absolutely wonderful.
When i first saw this Novel i didn't think i would like it, mostly due to always reading Martial Arts novels and i put it off for so long. When i finally got round to reading it i found it okay at first but soon i found i couldn't put it down, one minute i was laughing my head off, crying my eyes out or wanting to face slap all of Zhang Ye's enemy's. This Novel is one of those rare novels that you never get tired of, i still read the update everyday and im one of those people that will leave a novel for several mounts if im getting bored and only pick it up if the mood strikes me. IN SHORT BEST NOVEL EVER, READ IT OR PREPARE FOR A FACE SLAPPING.
I originally thought that the MC was too nationalistic and there was too much hate being thrown at Japan then I read chapters 560 to 563 😢🥴 I now understand why in a lot of Chinese novels there is always a hate being thrown at Japan. But what the author did to South Korea was completely f*cked up and way too excessive😉 Other than than that it's a good read with endless cycle of the MC getting hired MC getting angered MC administering a face slapping MC getting fired MC getting hired MC... Well you get the idea😂 It's a continuous cycle 😏
Early on, this novel was entertaining and seemed promising. Now at chapter 250, I can see just how wrong I was. I wish I read the comments before reading, as I really did waste my time. My biggest problem with this novel is the quote on quote "nationalism". While minimal in early chapters, the MC's "nationalism", or what I would refer to as racism, becomes rampant. The first time it was seen was when our MC learned Taekwondo (Early chapters). He berates the skill purely because of its Korean origin. While not too bad on it's own, this scene set up the later scenes, as there is more blatant racism against Koreans. There are stereotypes made against Koreans, and all of the Chinese people in this novel seem to hate them (Ch 249). Because of what one Korean star says, the MC makes fun of all Koreans for being the same. While technically not bad, the MC refuses to choose an English name when required by his job. (Near Ch 200) This on its own is not a problem. The problem I have with this is the sheer disrespect given towards English people. Our MC becomes angry and violent when forced to simply write a random name down as his English name. He is even told it can be anything and will most likely not even be used. So not only is there disrespect towards Koreans, but the English as well. Major problems aside, there is very little story development in the first 250 chapters. A plot is created, but is rinsed and repeated multiple times over. This is not prominent early on, but later chapters end up having a few grammatical errors every chapter. However, this does not really affect the reading experience. I put this after the major problems but I probably should not have. The main character is literally a borderline rapist. He has (on repeated occasions) groped sleeping women. During one scene, he fell asleep reading stories to his neighbors niece, and after our MC woke up before them, he decided to "feel around" his neighbor. Now if you have no problems with molesting and racism, feel free to read, as other than those things, it is quite entertaining. I know this novel came out years ago, but I just needed a place to vent. (:
