Chapter 5

Mireille looks at her reflection in the mirror, smiling and giggling as she twirls and turns in front of it. She likes this outfit, it fits her perfectly and it shows off her curves nicely. "I think this one goes well with your red hair…" She says aloud to herself and chuckles as she continues to twirl, feeling a bit dizzy. Suddenly, she hears her mother calling for her to come downstairs. "Mom! Come quick!" She shouts excitedly and hurries towards the stairs. She stops abruptly right outside of the staircase when she hears muffled voices coming from her father's office, she slowly walks down the stairs and creeps closer to listen more intently; a couple of seconds later she is greeted with the sight of her father sitting in his chair looking rather irritated.

"Dad," She whispers hesitantly, her father doesn't seem to notice her presence, he continues to fume silently. "Father, please," she urges softly, stepping forward a little and holding her hands out in supplication. She can tell something is wrong with him, he hasn't said a word yet, hasn't done anything aside from glaring angrily at the wall behind her, so she knows something is terribly wrong. "Please stop yelling and focus on me for a second," she pleads softly, waiting patiently until she finally hears the familiar deep voice of her father speak. "Sorry, my love. What did I do now?" He asks calmly, rubbing the bridge of his nose with one hand and leaning back in his chair with the other.

Her face falls, she didn't expect her father to apologize; she thought he would shout at her. "Nope..." She mutters to herself. "It's fine." She replies quickly, forcing herself to smile at him. He stares blankly at her as he continues to rub his temple with his right hand. "What?" She asks curiously as she leans against the desk. "Nothing." He murmurs and shakes his head lightly before turning towards the wall again, ignoring her question completely. "Why is everyone mad at me?" She sighs as she slides down onto the floor and crosses her legs under her body.

He glances briefly at her before averting his gaze once more and letting out a heavy breath. "Well...there was a rumor going around that you were going to propose today...and that we were all supposed to go on our anniversary trip..."

"Huh?" She gasps and sits upright. She didn't know anything about this at all. "But how-" Before she could finish her sentence he interrupts her and stands up and walks towards her to crouch in front of her. "It's okay if you didn't want us to know, we would understand. If you decide you would like to go on that date it's just up to you." He assures her as she nods. "Do you have any questions? We can answer whatever you may ask us; we aren't going anywhere." Her father offers her a kind smile before standing back up again.

"Is that why everyone's so angry?" She asks quietly, tilting her head to the side, hoping he wouldn't catch on to what she was implying. She was asking because she wanted to ask why her father wasn't angry as well. Her mother had already explained to her that her fathers had a hard time accepting that she was in love with a boy, he had told her many times that he couldn't allow her to marry any boys. She knows her dad loves her very much and wants her to be happy but he also believes that men are more than enough. "I don't know." Her father answers, he frowns deeply. "All I know is that you should have talked with me first before doing this; we wouldn't have forced you into it. And yes, I do care about your marriage plans." He adds.
