4 Aftermath

A few days after the attack, I woke up in my bed with a throbbing headache. Looking around, I see my brother lying on his bed wrapped in a bandage cloth. After seeing my brother, I attempted to stand only for my vision to spin and fall back to my bed. When I fell I must have made some noise because not a minute later my sister came running into my room.

Once she saw me, tears ran down her face as she gave me a hug. Estrid then asks, "What happened to you? it's been 3 days since you passed out." I reply with a smile." I don't know, I must have passed out after using almost all of my magic." Estrid with a smile flicked my forehead, telling me "You should have been more careful, and what happens if you use all of your magic?" I answered "If I use a lot of magic I will fall asleep but if I use all of it I might die." Estrid continued to cry saying "never do that again" Hearing the sound of her son, Gertrude came running. Moments later, my mother came running in while my sister remained hugging me. My mother followed suit saying "You must be careful using such battle magic." After hugging me mom went over to my brother checking his bandage and holding his hand.

I attempted to stand again, this time my head stopped spinning allowing me to walk to my brother. As I got closer I noticed that my brother was sweating. Asking my mom "What happened to him?" She answered "He was cut down his side. Floki gave me us a healing salve for him. He should be fine in a few days he woke up earlier but all he did was eat some broth and go back to bed." nodding me head I continue questioning "what happened after the battle?" Mom smiled saying " No one from our village was sent to Valhalla but all of the attackers were dealt with." Then with a stiffening face continues "The chief sent your father to the nearby villages to find out who attacked us, but let's not talk of such things. let's get you some food, you must be starving."

Mom walked toward the cooking pit and started to cook some soup as she yells to my sister "Estrid walk Eric to the stream to take a bath he smells." Listening to Mother my sister grabs a bucket and pulls my hand urging me out the door. As I walk out, the village looks the same as always except when someone sees me they give a big smile and a wave. Walking to the stream I take my bath.

Walking back my sister tells me "Everyone is happy knowing you are a mage, you might get some marriage offers soon." I look at my sister saying "I'm still to young to be wed." Now I'm thinking of how annoying it's going to be declining marriages since I will outlive all of the villagers. Once home I eat the soup mom had made while she tells me that light food after not eating is better than stuffing myself. luckily, she did allow me to eat some bread with the vegetable soup.

The next day my brother was up and about but was still wrapped around his side. mom changed the wraps showing a large cut from the hip to arm pit. The next week was my mother babying us till father arrived. Once he got home he hugged bjorn lightly and picked me up with a bear hug. Sigurd, my father looks at me saying "its about time for your training to continue . Your brother will need to recover more, then you guys can spar some more till then I'm your partner." With acruel smile giving me a bad feeling.

The next day my physical training started again and the following day my magical training. I spared with my dad for the next two weeks except It wasn't a spar it was rather just a beating. I did however get better fighting but I lost everything. After a month of the magical training I was able to forecast the week's weather. I messed up the fourth day since it didn't down poor but rather sprinkled a little rain. To which floki reminded me that not every prediction is a 100% fact. After I was done with the oracle bones he started to explain elemental magic.

He started by saying "Magic is rather simple you only need to know 3 things. They are Will, power, and intent. Will is what you want to do. Power is the magic you have in you. and intent is how you want to do something. First we will light the fire. I need to visualize what I want to happen which is for the wood to catch fire so I imagine fire engulfing the wood. As long as I have the power our magic will respond." After a second he points to the fire pit and a small whisp of fire shoots toward the pulled wood in the fire pit. After the fire started a breeze of wind cut the fire off with Floki telling me to attempt it.

When I attempted I thought of how fire works knowing that the hotter the flame the whiter it becomes not wanting to catch the house on fire with a type of fiend fire I imagine a blue fire. With a snap of my fingers a blue whisp attacks the wood causing a blue flame for a half a second till it turns back to an orange flame. When I was done I looked at floki who had his mouth open, asking "Why did the fire turn blue? I've only seen blue fire once." With a big smile I answer "Flames can get hotter and the hotter it is the different the color. blue is hotter than orange and white is hotter than blue." After that I snapped my finger causing a flame to appear on my thumb as my hand gives a thumbs up.

Floki excited about this fact just smiles not even asking how I know such things. Then floki asks "how much magic have you tried?"" With a smile we walk out of the house and I start with water. I think of a ball of water condensing from the air. As I didn't feed it alot of magic the water disappeared 10 seconds after I conjured it. Floki smiled saying "Conjured items can't remain but you can use runes for that. Elemental magic is a little different, I dont know a lot of Druid knowledge, but Elemental Magic can be practiced anywhere. Elemental is about feeding extra mana into the spell which will allow the spell to remain. Rain comes from the air. With enough mana water can be made perminent but only simple elements like water, fire, wind and the rest." Confused he waves his hand to an outside table with a few cups on it. pointing toward a cup he tells me to pick it up. When I do I notice inside the cup is an ingraved capital L. I ask him what it means causing him to look in the cup.

Then he rotates the cup saying "You had it upside down it is like a branch of the tree giving life. When you push magic through this cup usable water will be created because the rune is used to pull the water from the air like rain. I have many runes on my house as you can see." Floki points towards his hut causing me to question, "Is your home bigger on the inside?" Smiling he answers "Yes it is but only slightly I didn't want to freak you out. When you aren't here it's actually almost double the size. it can't get to big because the magic fissure below my house is quite small."

Following Floki toward the door to hiss hut. He places his hand over the rune and closes his eyes causing nothing to happen. Then we walk into his home finding the original room the same but on thee far side empty space the same size as the original room. Floki instructs me to sit down and walks over to a shelf pulling out a stack of wooden planks. Sitting around the table he places the stack of wood planks and slides one infant of us. Floki starts "These planks were carved by the founding seer of this village. He handed them to me and one day they will be yours if you stay in the village, but that's for the future. For now we will start with learning the runes." On each planks is a single rune carved into the center. Pointing at the first rune Floki explains that it is a protection rune. After learning the rune he grabs a blank piece of wood and hands me an inscribing tool.

I attempt to draw the protection rune but before I can floki stops me. He says "When drawing a rune not only do you need to draw it properly but you need to visualize what you want the rune to do. Since we are starting with the protection rune you should imagine a bubble around the rune." With my 21st century knowledge I know the strongest shape is a hexagon. As i start to draw I think of a Hexagon bubble. The rune was two 'x's vertically with a line through the middle. Once finished floki puts his hand on the rune and pushes magic through the rune. Once finished the shield activates showing the hexagon shield. Floki then asks "Did you imagine a beehive or did you mess up?" With a grin I answer "I thought it looked cooler than a bubble.

Witha flick of Flokis finger the barrier sounds like glass being flicked. After he turns to me saying "It seems stronger than it should be even though I didn't put a lot of magic into it. The more magic you fill it the stronger the rune will be but it also can be overpowered. Overpowered runes will burn up the item they are ingraved on. That is why some runes need to be drawn on metal such as the fire rune. Well you did good today I will see you next time." With a smile I am ushered out of the house knowing floki is going to mess with my new shield rune.
