Chapter 14

"Hahahahahahahahaha!"

I stared up at the ceiling, blood was slowly dripping from the ceiling. The red rivers flowed from the bodies. I stood there laughing and smiling, my body overflowing with happiness.

What is this?

THIS IS MURDER!

I've done that before, this is different

THIS IS KILLING BECAUSE YOU WANT! TO… NOT FOR ANY REASON…. NOT FOR ANY PURPOSE… JUST PURE UNINHIBITED MURDER!

It was a relief, like thousands of chains had snapped. My body felt light and free. My soul was filled with a pure and raw joy I hadn't felt before.

"Sam?"

I turned my head, my eyes widening with a look of pure delight. They then returned to normal.

"Arachnid… what do you want?"

"Jack could watch, I couldn't… what the hell are you doing?"

"What you told me to do."

"I told you to do what you want.. To save your brother. This is demonic and senseless."

"THIS IS WHAT I WANT! I'VE SAVED MY BROTHER AND NOW EVERYTHING IS FINE. MURDER IS FUN YOU KNOW?"

She scoffed and turned her back on me

"Dumbass"

I placed the knife in my coat and buried my hands in my pockets. I walked out of the building and into the street.

The feeling left me as I disposed of the bodies grabbing the corpses and jumping onto a roof, one slung over my shoulder and the rest inside my coat. I walked along the tiles back home, the sun was glaring into my face as the streets started to flood with police, sirens and sound blaring through the streets.

I returned to the hospital with one day to spare. I was wearing my spare clothes and I strolled into the white building. The glass doors parted as I walked towards the elevator. I tucked my feet into the corner sinking into the background through pure instinct.

My heart raced, my body pounded to the anthem of my heart. I'll get to see him again. I can't wait. The excitement flushed through my body, the relief, the happiness and the love all soaking into me again. The desperation and fear washed away like sand on the shore. Each floor we passed lapping away at my terror and doubt.

"How did you get this? If this is stolen we can't accept it."

"It's not… I used to be a guild master a few years ago and I just sold a few items and called in a couple favours its totally legit."

"Ok sir we have a few days to procure the item but then the treatment will be administered and I assure you he will make a full recovery."

I walked out of the hospital gripping my phone. I walked home… I had nowhere else to go.

I don't belong anywhere, not anymore. I've betrayed every moral… every rule, every law I held myself to. Everything I used to keep myself in check. I used everything I had to save my brother.

I killed for him, right?

I don't want to kill, I don't need to anymore, it's all over. I can go back to my peaceful life. I can go back and try to atone for my sins.

The elevator spluttered and whined stopping in place.

In front of me. It was him. Jack.

"So he's safe. You plan to stop?"

"Of course!"

"Really because Arachnid was under a different impression."

"That was probably Kane or something controlling my body."

"Heh I'm afraid not. Your spirits were behind you the whole time. You were alone when you were killed and that was your own will. You see I lied before. Your dagger doesn't save the souls. It's the mark of every serial killer every evil villain thinkable. the curse that begrudges them all. the reason why again and again people kill. to be honest thats what intrigued me, why you didn't sucuumb like the rest. but now I know. see I supose I have more knowlage than you and you never were the brightest but I'm surprised you didnt figur something was up. why you have this increadable strength and speed... how you can make skills like that... how you can talk to loved ones you kill. but then again I supose they have been holding you back, until today that is..."

"What!?!? You can't just pop in and fucking drop this then leave!!! what the hell are you talking about, its my dagger! its my dagger not me! I just have a talent for fighting thats all. thats all it is! Explain what you mean!"

"You might want to speak to her."

Behind me was a woman, she was wearing a white jumper and had brown hair. She seemed ordinary but her eyes. They were hauntingly familiar. The bright green shining through her tears as she stared down at me.

I was on the floor of the steel room clutching my head trying to comprehend what Jack was saying.

DAMMIT! WHY AM I SUCH AN IDIOT?!?!

I CAN'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF IT! I CAN'T THINK! I CAN'T DO ANYTHING! WHAT AM I!?!

"Who.. who are you?"

She knelt down looking into my eyes. My green canceling out into the abyss in her eyes. They were like a field of grass floating over a completely white background, a perfect patch of trees on a blank canvas centered with a small point of black, soulless black that mirrored my pathetic face. My widened eyes trying to think, I struggled and scramble to understand.

"I'm your mother."

The words hit my face like a punch. Suddenly I understood how she was here. I understood what it meant. What the outline, the asteral and glowing body meant.

I killed my mom.
