Chapter One-The Outside World.

The bedroom was dark with the morning being blocked out with the curtains. I laid alone in the bed, silently staring up at the roof. As soon as Derek went with his friends, I watched the roof as if praying it would just disappear.

'What am I doing? I should practice my magic while he's gone. Derek said I needed to get better at it anyways.' I thought, bringing my body up.

The room suddenly got much brighter, as if doing something made my day much better. I pulled the curtains open and watched the sun beam into the room before going into the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I almost flinched.

I had cool undertones honey skin but the bags under my eyes made me look like a dead man. My eyelashes were longer than regular and my nose was misshapen from being broken by Derek's friends. A scar reached halfway down my left cheek and I looked like I hadn't eaten anything in weeks. I was a mess. How could Derek see anything in me anymore?

I used to be beautiful. I used to have a clean face and a small but okay nose with beautiful freckles, a skinny but athletic body, and eyes that shined even if I missed a little bit of rest.

"Why does he keep me here?" I muttered through my own thoughts. I watched myself flinch from the way that I spoke.

Ignoring my face, I went to the bathroom, took a shower, cleaned everything and was sitting in the living room floor before lunch time. I flipped through the pages of spells that had been passed down through my family for centuries and I remembered how I had taken it and left without even saying bye to my family face to face.

I laid candles out among the rug of the living room and started chanting.

"Living here in this place of darkness, how will my life come to prosper?" I watched the purple flicker of each candle fire before an image from the smoke showed me a life of horror.

I stood there, with Derek beside me. I looked much older, time had passed in the future for sure, but as I looked at myself, I could only see pain and suffering. It wasn't the same smile I always had on when Derek would cuddle me. It was one of disgust.

I was bloody and broken down and repeating the words 'run, go, run, leave,' and as it got louder, I found myself climbing to my feet and scrambling to the door with my phone and a little bit of cash, letting the book hang loosely as I ran.

What a perfect day for Derek to not be home. Maybe I could cast the spell later and find out why Derek and I didn't get along in the future. Why we weren't as good in a relationship as we are now. But I didn't think about it.

I just ran.

The day was beautiful, with the sun burning onto my skin and I almost felt happy about getting out if it wasn't for the fact that he was going to hurt me when he found out that I had run away.

"I have to hide, I have to hide, I have to hide, I have to hide," I repeated as I got farther and farther away from the house. It was the middle of nowhere so most likely he would be caught if he even stopped for five minutes.

He had two hours before Derek would come home for lunch and then he would know that I made a run for it.

*******************************

When I saw the sight of society, it was a small town that probably didn't have a lot of visitors like me. I wouldn't be here long, I just needed to get a ride and get back to the city and home with my family.

Maybe they had a school I could go to. It would be nice to be able to get an education and get to a college so I'm not trying to get a job without a highschool diploma.

"Hello, are you new here? You seem lost, son." A young woman who passed him suddenly stopped to question the boy who had wandered into the town.

I paused. "Oh-um- yeah I'm new. Um, is there any abandoned homes here?" I asked her.

She lifted an eyebrow, concerned about why I had asked the odd question. I chuckled nervously waiting for her answer. I could see her looking around as if searching for someone else to be around and help her. I wasn't that scary looking, was I?

"Nevermind, I'll go find it myself." I muttered hatefully passing her and heading down the small dirt pathway I hadn't ever seen before. Not with the city and not when I was only surrounded by field.

I could feel the woman's eyes burning in the back of my head and I knew she was still looking at me with a scared look. I was new but I was only 17.

There was a broken down looking house, obviously no one had lived there, and I made sure no one saw as I made my way into it and set down my phone, book, and settled down on the floor.

The air was floating dust everywhere with sunlight bursting through the broken windows and the cracks in the walls.

It was a downgrade but I wasn't complaining or anything.

It was a perfect place to stay until I had a plan.

Just as I was about to just stay in the house all day, a weird wave of power flushed through me. I straightened, turning my head towards the door of the abandoned house. 'what on Earth was that' I thought.

I stopped doing anything, waiting for a moment.

'Idiot, you cast spells of course you are going to get random waves of energy. Just go back to what you were doing' but my thoughts were interrupted by yet another wave of energy.

That's it! I'm checking it out!

I stood up, setting a random piece of broken wood over the book and followed the feeling outside the home. Pushing out the door and into the streets, which now were full of people, some looking at me weirdly, I followed the feeling until I stopped in front of a huge building. My eyes widened.

A school, a school like he had always wanted. And this was the place that was letting out weird magical signals.

And before I knew it, I had already decided what I was going to do.

I was going to go to the school and both find what was giving those signals and finish my senior year so I could get back to the city and get a job.

This is where I'll start my new life.
