Cold-blooded eyes

We arrived at our university early in the morning. We've been brief about the possible things that might occur before arriving here.

It was just four in the morning when I woke up. It's still dark and cold outside. As usual, I wore my old cropped top, a thick jacket, pants, and shoes. For the past few years, I haven't had the opportunity to shop for myself. Since I have no time to do it, I even don't have money to buy it.

Well, I think that's how life is.

"Hey!" I said solely a whisper when my friend Trevor fetched me in our house driving his car together with his cousin at the back.

"Hey there, Leandra!" His cousin said abruptly.

A small smile crept on my lips. "How long have you been here outside waiting?"

"Uh, don't bother asking."

We've been friends since junior high school. Now that we're already in college, the course we took was still the same. So basically, both of us still block mates. Trevor's house is just a few gauges away from us. We always went to school together. Sometimes with Claret, but she's not with us often.

I can now discern why Claret somehow hates me. She likes Trevor for a long time now. I don't exactly know what's the precise circumstances because that's the only thing Trevor told me.

Trevor and the others became a big part of my life. Ever since the school year started, they are the ones who became my friends and helped me a lot.

When Trevor opened the compartment, I immediately put my bag beside his. Thankfully, we're using his car. The forest was located a few hours away from here and all of us will be riding a bus. As far as I can remember, three sections will attend including us.

"I envy you guys," Martin stammered before sighing heavily at the back.

My eyebrows shut up, "Uh-huh. What's with the reaction?"

"Goodness! I wanna come with you," he sulked.

"Only you can attend if you're already college like us. And, the same course as ours." Trevor taunted his cousin.

He snorted, "Just for three days, right?"

Trevor just nodded while I hugged myself tight causing him to slow his driving pace.

We arrived at our university early. The buses are already there as well as students squealing and looking delighted about how will our journey takes off.

The three of us went outside, Martin and Trevor loaded out our things including the foods he bought with us the other day.

"Take care, dude," Martin said.

Both did the fist bump.

"Thanks, man."

I hovered my fingers to Martin when he bid his goodbye and left. At the same time, our other friends approached us. Brooke, Lucas, and Rose arrived together.

Lucas yanked the plastics, our food. "Let's go?"

"God, I'm so excited!"

"I wonder what kind of egg are we going to hunt?"

"Maybe some... dinosaur or snake egg?" Rose said excitedly.

We started rolling out at five-thirty in the morning. All the teachers, students were already there. We even had an attendance to see who appeared, late and did not.

I sough heavily, reckoning about what will happen while I'm in the window rear area, peeking outside.

The frigid current from the outside is going in from the door of our bus. Few students and block mates of ours are already inside laughing and chattering as well as the three boys on the different aspect.

Rose and I are on the same row while the three are just across from us.

"It seems like you're thinking unfathomably," Rose said casually beside me while eating banana chips. "Oh, got this from the plastic. I didn't eat breakfast, I'm sorry."

I snorted, "Just thinking what will happen."

"TSS."

College is really hard. If I were to ask, I'd rather stop a year on going to school and work. I'm a scholar, yes. That's how it is. Even so, there were a lot of circumstances in which I couldn't even offset my time.

I'm a working student. After school, I went to the Jazz Pizza and work as a part-timer.

Sometimes, I take full time and cover shifts. I couldn't even refuse since the rate per hour is pretty huge.

"Okay, students, all eyes here!" Our professor said.

She's standing in front and leaning on the chair in the first row. Everyone halted what they are doing and immediately apprehended our attention.

The professor in front of us is Professor Jack. His pronoun is he, and amongst all the professors on our campus, he's the craziest and funniest professor compared to others. A lot of students like him. Well, that's already given. Aside from it, Professor Jack is also amiable.

Not only to us, his students but likewise outside the campus.

"So, I'm really glad that all of you are already present even if some were late," he said, a little bit dismay. "Well, I don't wanna destroy the mood. Let's start rolling out and enjoy the whole trip!"

Few students chuckled with him. Even me.

I can say the whole trip was fun. Some were having jokes and some weren't. As time passed by, the sun is already rising. Thankfully, the cold temperature earlier went down, and somehow, I no longer feel cold like what I felt before.

Augustine, the joker student in our class spoke, "What egg are we going to hunt, Professor?"

Professor Jack looked at us, "You're not listening Mr. Augustine,"

"Throw him out!" One student asserted jokingly again making Augustine sneer.

The whole bus was filled with enchantment and laughs. We're spontaneous that it was Professor Jack who was with us and not the terror teacher like Professor Enzo.

Over time, we already attained the area and saw the two more buses unloading students outside. Few cottages are already there as well as tents and other few things. There's even a flag of our school besides. A mark that the sector is ours and is being employed.

"I'm having goosebumps, cool," Lucas asserted then chuckled.

Brooke and Lucas had a fist bump.

"Where should I put our tent, Trevor?"

"Alright, students!" Another professor captured our interest. "The first thing we need to commend today is to build your tents and get woods in the forest! It's by group, okay?"

All the students gallop towards where the primary area is. Both Rose and I were giggling the same as others.

Our current location is outside the forest. You can still see the sun outside but when you go in, I highly doubt it. It's pretty dull judging from here on the outside.

Many people say woods are pretty dangerous. I'm starting to have goosebumps in this one.

"Need help?" Trevor asked.

I nodded before rasping, "Sure, we all do."

The tent Rose has is pretty big. The expanse is even too much for both of us. Well, if some students who are also here wished to share a tent with us, I don't mind.

After all, it's Rose's. Not mine. But I don't think she wouldn't agree. Rose is one of a kind... She surely does.

The five of us are having fun, laughing, and conversing when we got destructed by someone else.

"Hey!" A group of girls inclined us, Trevor, precisely since the girl is looking at him. The other one stepped forward while the two remained at the back.

Trevor halted on what he was doing and overlooked her, "Sup?"

"I, uh... we need help upon building our tent."

My eyebrows arched when I gave attention to how the girls spoke. There's something in her voice as if she's hitting Trevor. I don't want to accuse her or what, I just continued what I'm doing as well as what Rose and the two do.

"Sorry. We're still building ours," Trevor explained.

Her eyebrows shut up and looked at me, "Leandra is doing it right. She can handle it herself since it's Rose and her tent," she asserted.

A small smile crept on my lips, "Uh. Yeah. Brooke and Lucas are here with us tho. They'll be the one who–"

"Oh. Our tent is really big. Enough for ten people inside. If you need somewhere to stay on, ours is spacious. We don't mind."

Rose and I looked at each other. Before the three could say something, Rose spoke, "No, thanks. Our friends have their own," she explained. As if she was implying unto something. Well, I guess, my friend is a little bit... irked?

Lucas spoke, "Besides, we're a group."

The two more girls behind her stepped forward, "Uh-huh. You don't need to go inside the forest and search for woods. We came here prepared!"

My eyes automatically rolled. I don't care if they saw it or not. I don't know if they're conveying something or what. It's just that... I don't feel something was right the moment they approached us as she told me that I'm building our tent right.

First of all, she told us that they needed Trevor's help in building their tent. However, she also said I'm doing it right. If I'm doing it right, then why do they need the three's help? I mean... it already came out from her lips! She knows how to do it.

"No, I'm sorry. We couldn't help you with that. This is camping, it's natural to search for woods in the forest. Also, it's by a group. I'm with them."

Her face turned red. She bit her lower lip and looked at Trevor like a pathetic unpleasant cat. God! Disgusting.

"But–"

"I'm sorry, ladies. We're busy, y'all can go now," Lucas butted in.

The girl gave me a sharp look before turning around and vanishing in front of us.

My scrutiny went to the ball that has been tossed from our side. I don't know where it came from, on my right side in the forest. My forehead creased when I lifted it and looked at my friends who went back on their duties.

"Is this yours, Brooke?" I asked a little bit mystify.

His eyebrow shut up, "Do you think I'll come up with a soccer ball in a camp, Leandra?" he asked sarcastically.

Rose chuckled. "Of course!" She said sarcastically.

My eyes went on the forest beside me. My eyes meandered around and halted on a big tree. From here, I saw someone who was masculine, tall, and hunk in front of it.

I'm not exactly sure if he's looking at us or not. I couldn't see his figure much because of how vague it is.

I was about to look away when I saw a pair of two red dots on his face. I flinched when I realized it was his eyes.

Bright red, cold-blooded eyes.
