Dark by Birth

Two fortnights had come and gone, and I could not have wished them to be longer if I wanted to. I dreaded this day. The day I wore a dress and pretended to love royalty. But in my head I cursed all of them. Their jewels, their manner and their lives. I never wanted this life, not even the magical royalty, it was never meant for me. Blood was blood, but monarchs and royalty reigns were oil to the fire of desired power that would lead to the worlds most certain end, one way or the next. I wished not to be the end but the sweet and cherished beginning.

As I tightened my corset, letting my defined shape show and laced the dress skirt with the help of the dressing women I couldn't help but dread it all.

I knew that his words were not sincere, I didn't have to be a witch to know that. What would I do if her asked me to be his consort? I had to do what I must, but if I did deny him I would have to leave? Create a new life...… could I?

As the dressing women's hands soon found my necklace.

"Please don't touch that" I calmly ask as she nods.

"Where does a lowly servant get a jewel like that?" Edtha suddenly appears out of the shadows.

"It belonged to my mother" I tell her as I turn to her. "She gave it to me when I came to the palace" I lie as I cradle the necklace in my hand. "A little piece of home so close to me" I say as she snidely laughs.

"Who gifted you that dress?" Edtha speaks again.

"The prince" I answer shortly as she laughs, as I start to the door.

"Good luck" she says as I smirk at the dishonesty in her tone. "Soon you'll have to pay him back" she says sourly as I open the door and start to the ballroom. Hoping to rid my mind of her words.

Is that what these princes did? Deflowered all these honest servants because they could? Because the crown says they can?

"Ezra" I hear as I look up to see Benjamin.

"Yes?" I ask him as he smiles to me.

"I didn't recognize you" he says as I smile.

Of course he didn't, as my hair laid down my back, flowing freely. The dress glowed blue like the ocean, as pale as where the sky and the ocean meet is the color it resembled. But nobody recognized who I truly was, or what I truly looked like.

"Prince William is waiting for you in his office" he says as my stomach sinks. "I'll lead you to him" Benjamin says as he escorts me down the hall as he parts the doors and lets me in, closing them behind me.

"Benjamin?!" I call out to him from inside the office as I hear him, I know he's still there.

"I'm sorry" I hear through the door and footsteps slowly disappearing as I sigh and turn around as I see him.

Standing in front of me stood a man that I wasn't sure if I was glad to see or scared. But he held Beth's life in his hands, and I couldn't jeopardize that.

"I'm happy that your here" he says as I smile at him. "You look beautiful" he compliments me as I nod my head.

"What am I here William?" I ask him as he comes out from behind his desk.

"I want you to be my consort" he declares in the room as I freeze.

"I can't" I tell him as he smirks. "I'm not the type for marriage or any relationship, I'm more than fine on my own" I reassure him as he grin and I feel uncomfortable, I didn't want to hurt this man, not at all.

"You are making this a lot harder than it has to be" his words come out as a warning as confusion and fear was over me. "I know who you are" he tells me as I smirk.

"Yes" I say as confirmation. "The servant girl who doesn't wish to be taken to your bed!" I exclaim as he sighs.

"Mrs. Cain" he calls as I stay silent, fear riddling my bones. "Does that name ring a bell?" He ask me as I shake my head no.

"Your talking about the Cain witch" I say as he nods his head, inching his way closer to me.

"And your bloodline" he admits as my legs grow weak. as he takes out a staff and I instantly recognize it.

"The Cain Staff" I say aloud, the last time I say that it was used as a weapon to impale a even greater monster, a power driven mortal.

"I take it you know it?" He ask me as I grow silent. "Then I'll test it out" he says as he points it towards himself. "I'm not of Cain blood, but you are" he declares as I kneel.

As he lurches the staff towards me as I kneel, hoping to cover my face. Praying to the gods to throw off the staff, but I was doomed. As the staff illuminated as bright as the stars, drenching the room with its light as I stayed.

"Gehenna, my darling!" He says as I shake at the sound of my precious name emerging from his lips. "You should have never left home" he tells me too late.

"What do you want me to say?" I ask him. "You didn't catch me! I will escape any prison as long as you cage me" I warn him as he laughs.

"Yes?" He ask me as I smirk.

"My mother will bring he'll itself trying to find me and you will be in the unholy crossfire" I threaten as he laughs.

"But I'll take a whole month for her ever to know her only daughter is doomed" he says as I stare dagger at him. "And I'll have my revenge on my father killer and you'll be in a trapped, where you belong" he stabs, but I feel nothing for the monster my mother slaughtered.

"I will say it closer to you so you can hit me if you wish." I tell him as I walk closer to him. "I'm glad that bastard is dead! He deserved it and he is nothing like the hero you people paint him to be! All he ever caused my family was pain, pain that I can never heal from!" I declare as I see his fist clenching. "Kill me if you will" I say as I grab a dagger of the desk. Putting it in his hand. "But just be prepared for hell to arise and best in your lovely kingdom" I warn him as I kneel to his feet and everything I know is consumed in darkness.
