Chapter 8

My parents came home pretty early, when I got home from school they were having tea with an unexpected guest.

"Mom, why are you and dad having tea with Rachel's dad?"

"Ohh so you know his daughter, that's great honey, how about you come to say hi."My mom drags me from the kitchen towards the living space.

My attempts at protests don't help at all as my mom is a hundred times stronger than me.

"Ahh, Lilith if I'm not mistaken." Rachel's dad gets up and shakes my hand.

"Yes, Mr. Green." I give him a forced smile. This man makes me uncomfortable even though his presence makes the temperature in the room drop a couple of degrees.

I look at all of them talking as if they've known each other for years.

"If you don't mind me asking, how do all of you know each other?" I ask.

I sit up straight from his layback position on the couch. "I and Archie went to school together we were practically raised together."But that would mean that Mr. Green is…"

"A vampire?"

"No, Archie is a werewolf."

"Okay well that makes sense, but that would mean that Rachel is a werewolf too right."

"Not exactly." Mr. Green says. "Rachel is a late shifter."

"Okay, that explains the built-up anger and bitchyness."

"Lily." My dad warns me.

"What? it is true."

"Don't worry, it's okay." Mr. Green says.

"Rachel got used to getting whatever she wants whenever she wants it I think it's time to toughen her up a bit and I think you would be great at that."

"I don't think so, Rachel is a cheerleading nightmare. I don't want to be seen within 10 feet of her existence. And besides shouldn't she belong to a specific pack."

"She does. She lives with her mother far up north and I live in New York so I can't be there for her all the time."

"She'll be fine. I need to go right now but it was nice meeting you."

I quickly do my homework and change in preparation for the party. I wear black baggy cargo pants and a tight black cropped top and I put a black and blue varsity jersey over since it's a bit chilly outside. I put on my blue air Jordan retros and some light makeup.

I take my car key and make my way downstairs.

"Where do you think you are going?" My mom stops me in the kitchen.

"I'm going out with Ann."

My mom looked as if saying 'I don't buy your bullshit but okay.' "Fine don't come back home late."

I quickly went out before my mom could change her mind.

Arriving at Ann's house I quickly greet her dad and we went to the party.

The party was already in full swing when we got there and I can't say I'm surprised.

Hunter greets me by the door and gets me a cup with soda in it.

"Didn't you say that your parents won't be home until tomorrow and you have to babysit?" Hunter says dragging out his words.

"I did but they came back home early which is why I came to this party."

"But you don't seem to be enjoying yourself."

"Oh, really what gave it away."

"How about we ditch this place and go on our date."

"I have to be home by midnight."

"Okay Cinderella, I'll make sure you are home by then."

"Fine. Let's go." I say reluctantly even though deep down I know that I want to go.

"Where are we going?" I ask as we drive out of his estate.

"It's a surprise."

"Okay. Don't try to kill me 'cause I'll kill you first."

"You can try."

I roll my eyes and look ahead at the road. We come to a forest and he stops the car.

"We are going to have to walk from here on out." he takes out a blanket and a basket from the boot.

"Looks like you came prepared. It's almost like you knew that I would agree to this date."

"Look at me, can you say no to this face?" he rubs his cheeks and chin.

"A bit cocky are we?" I look at him up and down as we make our way up a hill.

"How could I not when I got the prettiest girl in the school to go on a date with me."

"Just in the school?"

"Correction in the whole world."

"Just in the whole world."

"You believe in aliens?"

"Maybe." we laugh a bit

We reach the top of the hill and the view is amazing. "it's beautiful."

"Yeah." he lays the blanket down, puts the basket in the middle, and takes a seat.

"You come here a lot?"

He pats the spot next to him and I take a seat."Yeah, I used to come here with my mom."

"Why did you stop?"

"When I was fifteen she got sick and she and my dad had to go away to find medicine to cure her."

"And they have been gone since?'

"Yes, going on three years now but they do call and send pictures and letters every chance they get."

"You know my mom is a Doctor and she can probably help with whatever illness your mother has."

"I don't think so, my parents have been to the best doctors in the world, as we speak right now they are consulting with a traditional healer in South Africa, they are called sangomas."

"Yeah I know of them, instead of going to school for a medical degree, they are given the gift of medical and spiritual healing by their ancestors it's pretty amazing." I have distant relatives there and my mother lived there for a portion of her life and learned their way of healing.

"They are. Let's eat." he takes out the ham and chicken sandwiches. "ham or chicken?"

I smile at him. "Ham." I take the ham sandwich. "You know, I never thought that I would be here right now looking at the most beautiful view in Canada with you."

"Why?" He takes a bite of his sandwich.

"Well, because you are you."

"What do you mean by that?" he straightens his back.

"Because you aren't what I thought you would be. I've been warned about the player that goes by the name Hunter, a heartbreaker and for a minute there I was starting to believe it because I've been with an egotistic person like that and the signs are as clear as day but you, you are more different and caring and softer then I expected. I mean any other guy would have taken me to a regular old restaurant and then he would slowly lead me into his bed I know I haven't gotten to know you as well as I think I have but I have hope in you and whatever this is." I laugh a bit.

"I mean I'm not any other guy." We both laugh and continue eating our sandwiches
