Chapter 23

Lucy's pov

I was beyond pissed to getting all wet until I saw his smile. We are laughing and splashing each other like little kids. After I say I can't he looks like he's about to say something and his smile fades from his face which I immediately regret having said anything. Why couldn't you have just shut up and enjoyed the kiss like you know you would've Lucy? I asked myself going back and forth with my own voice in my head. That is until I realize that someone is behind me. Judging by his reaction and it doesn't look good. "Glad you could join us son" she says beaming at him but its not fully friendly. Since she's clearly unapproving of his current state at the moment. Then she notices me "and your little friend". She says scrunching her nose up disgusted and she's not even trying to hide it. I look between the 2 seeing the resemblance between them.

His parents house

"Mom that's no way to talk to my girlfriend" he chides hopping out of the pool. Both of our eyes widen at his declaration. He helps me out of the pool grabbing me a towel since I was shivering from the sudden cold. I even got goosebumps all over my shoulders and it was kind of brief in the water. I'm just really sensitive to changing temperatures real quickly. "Nice to meet you Mrs. Dreyar, though I do wish it were under better circumstances" motioning towards my wet body. We share a little chuckle before heading inside which makes me relax my shoulders thinking things aren't going to be so bad after all.

She spins on her heels snapping her fingers for me to follow like I'm some kind of dog which I most certainly am not. Since Laxus starts moving I just follow his lead not really knowing what else to do. "I'm so sorry" he whispers to me and I just shake my head. His mom is far ahead of us and is rattling off orders to any poor soul in sight. We end up in the sitting room of sorts which has a white couch theme to it. With Jade green throws and pillows that nicely accent it. That's all I get to examine about the rooms before she starts asking her questions." So tell me about yourself" she starts crossing one leg over the other. "Well I'm 32 and my name is Lucy" thinking I should've started with my name since clearly she doesn't know about me. Anyways what's done is done.

"I'm originally from Hawaii so I went to school there up until high school at Kamehameha schools. Which I then transferred to this school in California which you probably don't know about. Its called Oxford Academy which is a great school for my high school. My dad was in the military so we moved around quite a bit. For college I went to Berkeley. I then chose to go to veterinary school since I love all types of animals. I've always had them in my life no matter how old I was. Even now I have 2 dogs which are absolutely adorable. Working up to having my own clinic that was just a couple years ago". I take a breath after my speech. Laxus just raised an eyebrow looking amazed and shocked. Like why would I work for him if I have that kind of education. I just laugh it off putting his arm to calm him down almost like a promise that we will talk later. I plan on answering all of his questions later just not at this moment.

Well if I get out of here alive that is. The way she's looking at me right now makes me doubt that a bit. I haven't done anything to show disrespect towards her so its beyond me why she's mad. Trying to slide slightly closer to him on the couch. Which I thankfully manage to do without her noticing it. If she did she didn't say anything about it. She is sitting in front of me but doesn't look any less scrutinizing. It's like I'm being interviewed for a job and not any kind of job like a really important one. Hell mine didn't even go like this. I'm already docked a few points since I don't meet all of the qualifications.

Only because nobody told me ahead of time what to wear and we were out on a run. Certainly not dressed the part I think looking down at myself. I'm dressed in his old clothes when he was little. I'm so small that even these don't fit me which is crazy to think about since he was probably a kid when he was wearing these. I can feel the tension in this room and it is awkward to say the least. "Well we should really be going now but I thank you for your hospitality". Thankfully she does not try to stop me as I stand up. Laxus looked relieved to be away from his mothers wrath.

He literally thanks me as soon as we stop foot outside. My house is currently closer to here than his is. That doesn't mean that this boy isn't hauling his ass into a cab back to his place. He has the money so I'm not worried about him. Laxus says "ok if that is what you would like then I will do it". He is such a gentleman I don't know where he gets it from, which is clearly not his parents. I haven't the foggiest idea but sometimes kids turn out so different from their parents. It is what I would like and I'm pretty sure that he will be alright.

"I'll call you tomorrow" he calls out before hopping in a cab. I thought that the polite thing to do was to wait with him, nothing else. I nod already knowing what he wants to talk about. Then I head out home alone. Thankfully there are lampposts illuminating the path so its not too dark. It's pretty much a straight shot from here to my place now after I turn right. Stuffing my hands in his jacket still unbelievably cold. My shoes were just dry enough to slip on so something on me fits. The hair whipping in the wind like a cold wet blanket on my back. Which trust me is not a pleasant experience to have.

When my house comes into sight I have never been more relieved for something in my life. Speeding up my walking anxious to get inside but safely. Quickly darting my head left and right before dashing for the door. I sink into the shadows, my keys already out and ready. Turning on every single light on in the process when I finally get inside. I don't see anyone but I'm not letting go of this baby so easily. By that I mean my metal baseball bat that I keep in my house. Hell no! I'm not telling you where I keep it so you can sneak in and murder me when I'm sleeping.

I'm a crazy bitch so I have quite a few almost like my very own collection I have so many. You never know though and I have to be able to defend myself. I'm not the same helpless girl I used to be. That was a couple years ago and a lot has changed since then. I'm not risking my friends life's because I'm too scared to do something.

Does his mother like her?

Why did she say I cant?

How will the conversation go?

Why does she work for Laxus?

Who is the mother really?

What happened to her clinic?

Where even are they?

When does she get to meet the rest of his family?
