Hero vs Demon

In a stunning twist of fate, Kai, a passionate young reader, meets a tragic end only to be reborn in the very novel that once captivated him. However, fate plays a cruel hand, for he is reincarnated as a Demon in a world where these magnificent creatures are ruthlessly hunted by humanity. It does not help that the protagonist of the story, armed with her 'system' harbors a deep-seated animosity towards Kai's kind. "I'll be damned..." It was the first words Kai muttered as he understood where he reincarnated.

The Novel

I felt as if someone had splashed a bucket of cold water on my face as I slowly realized that I was reincarnated in my favorite novel.

Tears of joy began to stream down my face as I looked around and took in the sights, sounds, and smells of this magical world that I had only ever experienced through words.

It was a dream come true!

"Status!"

I quickly spoke, looking before me as an azure color window suddenly materialized out of thin air.

In this novel, there was a thing called a Status window that displayed important information about your character.

Every being had it and it was a crucial part of the novel's world-building.

My eyes slowly scanned the information displayed in the Status Window, which provided a snapshot of my character's identity and traits.

However...

Whilst reading, I could feel my smile beginning to fade and my eyes completely halted on a specific line.

๐‘๐š๐œ๐ž: ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ง

I could feel cold sweat dripping down my forehead.

If this was really my favorite novel, then...

"I'm so screwed..."

My initial excitement was replaced by an overwhelming sense of despair.

The Protagonist of this novel was a character that would end the Demon race, and as a member of that race, my fate was sealed.

I could try to change the course of events, but it simply is impossible given the protagonist's strength and traits she possesses.

"System..."

I muttered recalling the Status Window of the main character.

System was a trait she possessed and it was considered one of the most powerful abilities in the novel.

It was like an extended version of the Status Window, and that might not sound like a very powerful trait but...

It was.

Because of the tiny, barely noticeable property, it had...

The Infinite Growth!

The System was like a cheat code that allowed the protagonist to continuously improve and grow stronger, no matter how strong her opponent was.

She would kill a few monsters, and gain a few levels, similar to how a player in an RPG game would progress.

This unique trait gave the protagonist the edge she needed to overcome any obstacle, making her unbeatable.

The System was the protagonist's most significant weapon, and its importance in the novel could not be overstated.

Another important thing was the missions that could be obtained through the System, which guided the protagonist toward her ultimate goal of defeating the Demon race.

These missions were specifically made to analyze the world and consider the biggest threats to her goal, providing her with specific objectives and direction to progress the story.

It was like a pathfinder, showing the protagonist the most efficient way to reach her goal.

"I can't even hide... Can I?"

Half laughing and half crying, I realized how trapped I was in this story.

I couldn't defeat the protagonist.

I couldn't get close to her or I'd be instantly killed.

I couldn't even hide, because the System could detect any presence, no matter how small.

"..."

I leaned against the ancient statue, feeling hopeless and even more exhausted. It was the first time l had ever felt such a sense of despair.

After a few moments of gathering my thoughts, I resumed reading my Status Window.

Although it was probably pointless, I couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, there was some way I could escape this seemingly unbeatable protagonist and break free from the narrative constraints.

This time I was pleasantly surprised. In the novel, no character has been seen with traits so far. Even the main character only possesses one trait, the powerful System.

Having two traits is... awesome!

Clenching my fist, I slowly opened the trait description, reading every word with increasing excitement.

Glancing over my first Trait, I clicked my tongue, realizing that this was the main cause of the trippy fight against the Raven.

However, the main issue with this trait was that it was basically a lie. Although it was described to make me immortal, I was aware that there must be some limitations to it that haven't been written.

For example, I could be mentally harmed or affected in some way that could render me unable to function properly, even if my physical body remained unscathed.

"Interesting..."

Although this trait had its limitations, it would undoubtedly be a great advantage in combat situations.

It would allow me to take risks and push myself beyond my physical limits, knowing that I could not die from any injuries sustained.

This trait would probably make the protagonist view me as an even greater threat, and could potentially change the dynamics of our future encounters.

"Yeah, I don't need that..."

Humbling myself to the truth, I shifted my gaze toward the second trait.

Reading through its description, I realized that this trait was equally as powerful, if not more so, than the first.

What if... I managed to consume a Dragon?

My imagination ran wild as I realized the potential of this trait. There were plenty of powerful creatures and monsters in this world and consuming them could grant me their abilities and strengths.

However, I also realized that this trait could have consequences.

If not used correctly, it could kill me.

What if I've gotten too greedy to gain a certain power and ended up trying to fight a creature that was way out of my league?

Although this was a very powerful trait, it also came with a great responsibility of utilizing it wisely and carefully.

"Wow..."

I muttered, looking at my Status Window. With these two traits, I was becoming more aware of the power and potential that lay within me, but also the dangers and risks that came alongside it.

"If not for my race..."

My thoughts trailed off as I stepped away from the ancient statue, entering the lush greenery of the forest.

"I'd become very powerful."
