CHAPTER 17

Not up to a minute after we sat down, a waiter came to where we were seated, and I had to say, he was handsome. The smile on his face made his face glow the more. Even though it surprised me how I was practically fangirling over him, I didn't bother to stop. It wasn't until Kim lightly kicked my knee underneath the table that I got my wit back together

"Hello, beautiful ladies. What would you like to order?" he asked

My goodness! His voice is heavenly

A wide smile crossed my face right now, I wondered how my face had not split into two right now

I looked at him name card, Jung Oh-je

"Jung Oh-je?" I confirmed

"Yes, that's my name"

"You're Korean"

Before he could answer, Kim spoke up

"Duh, of course. Is that even a question? What else would he be? A...?"

Now , it was my turn to kick her under the table

"Ow" she complained

I gave signaled to her with my eyes to shut up, while he was laughing. I'm obviously not complaining about him laughing

I turned to him and smiled, before remembering his question

"That's right, our order. We were here to eat"

I picked the menu up and looked through it. After pretending to be actually looking at the meal, I dropped the menu

"I have no idea what it's saying. You pick" I told Kim

She smiled and picked it up as if she knew I didn't know what I was looking at and just wanted to see how long I persisted

Bad girl

"We'll have 3 servings of BBQ with cheese" she said

After giving us the tab, he went to get our food, and before two minutes, our food was brought

"Wow" I said when everything was placed down

"Is this usually how you guys eat?" I asked Kim

She shrugged

"Depends. Try it, I'm curious to see whether you will like it or not. Do you know how to use a chopstick?" she asked

"Of course" I said

I took a bite

"Wow, it's melting in my mouth" I stated

She smiled

"I know right, this is one thing I can never get tired of. BBQ" she raised her thumb up

After we were done, I got up and went over to pay the tab

Oh-je, as he said I could call him, looked behind me towards our table and smiled. He looked back and me

"You finished everything" he said

"Of course, there's no way a single drop of that delicious meal was going to waste. They all entered my belly"

He chuckled

"I'm glad to ear that"

"Thank you for the meal" I told him after I finished paying the money

"I hope you guys come again"

"Of course, definitely. You can count on me for that" I said and followed Kim out

"Are you finally ready to go, or do you want to follow him to his house?" she asked

"You have a knack of making people take something else from what you are saying. I wasn't even talking to him for long" I replied

We signed contentedly as we laid back on my bed

"Right now, I'm so glad I got to meet you, and you're my friend" I told Kim

"Why? Because you were able to see Oh-je because of me?"

I turned to her and placed my hand on her shoulder

"How could you be so right?" I asked her

She tossed my hand away from her shoulder

Laughing, I laid back down

We laid in peace silence, until someone barged in, making me grunt

"Mom wants you guys downstairs" he said

"Can't you knock?" I asked him

"Hi there, Kim" was his answer

"Hi" Kim said while waving at him

"My mom would like you guys down"

"Sure, we are coming"

"Get your behind downstairs" he said as he threw a pillow on me

"Hey!"

But he was already gone

"You guys are so fun to watch" Kim said

"Wow, thank you so much for your comfort"

"Don't worry, you can always come watch me and my brother's. I give you a free ticket" she said, smiling

"Shut up" I told her and got up

Laughing, she followed me down

"What's popping?" I asked my mom

"Shut up" Edward said

"Your mouth that smell that crap" I completed the sentence sending it back to him

"Rude wench"

"Truant rascal"

My mom hit him head

"Stop it"

"Finally" I jumped up, and sucked out my tongue to him

"You guys keep acting like this in front of Kim. Aren't you ashamed of yourselves"

"No" we said together

"She's like family" Edward said

"That's right. Why should we be ashamed when it's out sister that's watching us"

Apart from Kim's dad, we are all close. It's kind of like a pair thing; me and Kim, my mom and her mom, Edward and Alex. It was fascinating and I was glad. We were all practically family. But, I've never met Kim's dad, and I couldn't help but find it strange. When I went to their house, there were only pictures of Kim or/ and her mom, no dad. She said that the complete family picture was only in the master's bedroom, and I couldn't understand why that was. I find it strange, but I don't actually care. After all, I don't actually see the use of fathers

My mom look at Kim, and shook her head. In return, Kim shrugged her shoulders, smiling

The bell rang

"Are we expecting someone?"

"Yes, Jessica and Alex" my mom answered going to the door

"My mom and brother?"

"We are having a night get together" she said

Kim and I looked at each other with raised eyebrows

"Brought chicken" Kim's mom, Jessica, said as soon as my mom opened the door

"And soda" Alex added

"Good choice. But I'm not sure if the kids are met to be drinking" my mom said

"The least age here is eighteen, mom. Soda isn't alcohol and there's no school tomorrow" Edward said

"Just for this night only" Jessica told my mom

"As usual, you're the best, Jessica"

She smiled and bowed

"Eoseo osidsio" I greeted her in Korea. Welcome

"Ne, gamsahabnida" she responded back in Korea. Yes, thank you

After few seconds, we burst into smiles

"I have to say, you're improved" Jessica said

"What do you expect? She has the best teacher she could ever have" Kim said proudly putting her hand across my shoulders

"Shut up" I told her

"Okay, okay, let's sit" my mom said

We all sat down on the floor, circling the center table that was covered with various types of fried chicken and numerous cans of soda. The mothers were at the edge-like side of the table, I was beside Jessica while Kim was beside me. Opposite me was Edward and beside him was Alex who was beside my mom

"Wow" my mom said

"Here," Alex started raising his can of beer, "let's live the night. Cheers"

"Cheers!" we all said and clinked our cans together

We laughed while talking about our various things. Jessica talked about her fashion company, and I couldn't imagine that stories from her place of work would really crack me up. Edward talked about his college

"As if being handsome wasn't already my flaw, I just have to be smart at the same time" he said

Kim and I retched, Alex smirked, while the mothers chortled

"So, I guess you have a girlfriend then?" I asked Alex

"No" he answered

I raised my eyebrows

"You don't?" Kim asked

He scoffed

"No, I don't"

"Why don't you have one?" Jessica asked making the four of us, not my mom, look at her

"What? Why are you looking at me?" she asked

"Is that what a mother is meant to ask her son?" Kim asked

"Are you supposed to be happy that he doesn't have a girlfriend?" I asked her

"It's not like he's a child" my mom said

"Mom" I called

"He'll soon go to college. He needs to at least date a few times before settling. As long as he doesn't mess up" she said

"I know, right" Jessica backed her and they did a high five

"Heol" Kim said

She told me that's what people say when they are either shocked or surprised

"So, are you also going to let me date?" Edward asked my mom

"First of all, you have to be a college student. I don't think girls like boys who skip classes and stay home for days" my mom said

I gave her a thumbs up and she replied with a wink

"I'm short of words" he said

"Then go back to college" I told him, earning a glare. I stuck out my tongue at him

"It's good to know that my kids aren't the only troublesome siblings" Jessica said

"Believe me when I say that yours' are better than mine"

"Aren't parents supposed to stand up for their kids?" I asked Kim, but loud enough for everyone to hear

We laughed. We talked and teased, starting from me, my mom about her boss while she tried to convince us that there was really nothing. But, we weren't hearing it, especially when there was a smile on her face, and a blush on her cheeks. We talked about many other random things. We built an even stronger bond among ourselves. I was happy. We were all happy
