THE MENTAL ASYLUM

NOAH'S POV

I don't know what I should expect, I mean why would a little boy run away from an orphanage to meet a crazy person?

And what bothers me the most is that he learned piano at this kind of place.

I couldn't stop myself from visiting this place only to be greeted by an old man who was making out with a tree.

Wow!

I should tell Kevin about this; this place isn't safe for kids and especially for someone like Chris. It is clear that he is an introvert. He found a friend, at the wrong place.

Where should I even start?

I walked inside the building and found an old lady at the reception. The poor woman was trying to manage her table in this chaos.

I wonder how she manages this job? I am sure it is not easy to be surrounded by a bunch of psychos.

Hell, I am getting creeps by just standing here that now I am questioning my life choices.

"Hello." I greeted the woman politely and she looked at me with a frown on her face.

I was not expecting this kind of expression on her face but…whatever!

I just want to meet the piano girl.

"Hi…. Hello, why are you here gentleman? You don't look like a doctor." She stated and now it was my turn to frown at her.

Of course, I am not a doctor.

God! It looks like it is going to be hard to crack this lady.

"You are absolutely right ma'am. I am not a doctor but I am here to see someone." I answered and the furrow between her brows grew deeper.

"Then why are you here? This place isn't meant for the people like you."

Yeah, no sh*t! I thought.

"You're right. I um…actually, I am here to see someone." I hesitated at first because I didn't know who am I supposed to meet.

"Who?" She asked curiously.

"Is there any patient here who plays piano and doesn't like to meet people?" I described the unknown woman the same way Chris described her and by her expression, it seemed like she knew who I was referring to.

"Um…no! There are no such patients here, I think you are at the wrong place." She said and resumed her work completely ignoring me.

To be honest, I am no expert but I have been in the business industry for quite some time now and knew very well how to read people.

And with my experience, I knew that this woman was hiding something from me.

She definitely knew something and I didn't like that she was hiding it.

"Look, I am here for a very important reason I really need to meet this patient." I tried again.

"But sir, she is not here. You should go and try somewhere else. Like I said, you are at the wrong place." She said agitatedly and that's when she made a mistake.

She indirectly accepted that she knew exactly who I was referring to.

"I never said that the patient was a 'SHE'. So Ms. Gwen," I paused and picked up her nameplate from her desk, "If you don't tell me right now, where this patient is you don't know what I can do to this place. For instance, I can buy this entire building along with its employees and at the same time I can kick you out of this job and blacklist you so that no one will hire you in this country." I threatened and she obviously took it.

It was my way of intimidating her, I am not going to buy a mental asylum out of all the places. I can buy it but that doesn't mean that I will just to meet this mysterious psycho-patient.

"Wh…who are you?" She asked in horror. The poor lady looked like she was about to go into cardiac arrest. Maybe I got too far with my threat.

I shouldn't have done that, but she also should have answered me properly.

"I am Noah Kaine, I am sure you have heard about me." I shrugged and her eyes widened even more.

"Noah Kaine? The Noah Kaine! Owner of Kaine enterprises?" She asked and I nodded seriously.

I am glad she knows who she was talking to.

"My apologies, I didn't recognize at you first. I am really very sorry." She apologized again and again and I was getting irritated because now she was only wasting my time.

"I don't have time, are you going to tell me where she is or not?" I asked again and she gulped.

"Um…sir, she is not well. You should come some other time to meet her and she doesn't like to meet strangers." She answered and I frowned.

Now I am curious, who is this patient?

"I don't care, I just need to see her and if anything happens, I will leave immediately," I said and she nodded.

Wait!

What if this patient is dangerous?

But then she didn't hurt Chris so that proves that she is not dangerous.

She gave me the directions to the patient's room and I didn't waste any more time leaving. She was annoyingly slow with her instructions and I was impatient to meet this patient.

I followed her instructions and finally reached my destination.

It was a room in the far corner of the third floor, there was a sign of warning on this floor which was not there on the first two floors which makes this place a bit scary for me but I was determined to meet this lady.

I walked towards her room but my steps soon came to a halt when I heard the same haunting tune of my dreams. It was coming from inside the same room.

Only this time, the sound seemed more polished, emotional, and flawless. The music entered my ears seamlessly and I closed my eyes for a moment, savouring the same feeling I used to get when I used to be with her.

For a moment I forgot that I was standing in the corridor of a mental asylum. It seemed like my soul left my body and joined my little mouse in heaven.

I slowly opened my eyes and saw a ward boy coming out of another room in my direction.

Thank God!

At least now I can ask someone about her, before entering inside.

"Hey wait up!" I said to him while he was busy arranging the syringe and other medicines in his tray.

"What are you doing here sir? Only the senior doctors and the head nurses are allowed to come to this floor." He questioned and looked around as if he was caught doing something wrong.

"I know, I just have a question," I said and crossed my arms in front of him.

"What is it?" He asked hurriedly.

"The woman inside this room, who is she?" I questioned while pointing in the direction of the room.

"I-I don't know. She is a crazy woman, and I have only been in there two times and both times she was unconscious." He answered.

Chris's innocent face flashed in front of my eyes. This place is so wrong for him and making friends like her is even more wrong.

How this kid can sneak out of the orphanage at night and enter inside this building without getting caught?

I tried to peek inside the room and caught a familiar figure of a woman.

Is it her?

My little mouse?
