“Okay, nobody panic. I can find them.” I looked out the window at the deep black sky. A light mist hung around the lamp posts along Main Street. Wherever Charlie and Mack were, they weren’t staying there deliberately.
“You can?” Patty had her arms wrapped around her torso as if she’d fall apart if she let go. “How?”
“You know the chain Charlie wears around his neck all the time?”
Everyone nodded.
“It has a homing device. Before we moved here and he recovered his health, he would get lost, and I’d have to search for him. I finally bought the chain and convinced him to wear it. I haven’t used the tracking app in a while, but I’ll bet it still works. Where’s my phone?”
The search switched from looking for people to finding the phone, which I’d left on the kitchen counter.
“Maybe I should have an app to find your phone.” Rick’s words teased me, but I could hear the tension underlying them.
