Friends

"Since you are a Slytherin and I'm a Gryffindor, I don't think I can be friends with you anymore. Because my housemates will shun me for being friends with you, and you know how much I have endured during school, right?" A girl with bushy brown hair asked the raven haired boy in front of him.

*Yawn* Yawning a bit, the boy said "Alright Herm- no, Ms. Granger, I understand. You don't want your housemates to shun you because you have a connection with a Slytherin student. I understand. Then have a good day." After saying that he started to walk away from the empty corridor.

"Wait! John!" Shouting at him, Granger ran towards him and stood in front of him and said "Why are you calling me by my last name?"

Raising an eyebrow at the question, John replied "Cause you just said that you can't hang around with me."

"Yeah? That doesn't mean I'm not your friend!" Granger told John.

Nodding his head, he said "I understand what you're implying." Suppressing the yawn coming from him, he continued "You don't want anyone to know that we are friends in Hogwarts because, if they do, your Housemates will shun you, and you will experience that all over again. That is why I'm calling you Granger."

"You do have a point." Granger mumbled to herself.

Nodding his head, he said as he passed by her "It was good seeing you Ms. Granger."

Granger couldn't even say goodbye as he disappeared from her sight.

Not seeing him in her vicinity, Granger mumbled "How did it come to this?"

Few hours ago during the sorting ceremony, Prof. McGonagall called out the name "John Wick."

A raven haired boy with dark eyes walked up the Prof. and sat down in the seat. The Prof. placed the sorting hat on the head of the boy and waited for it to sort the boy into the appropriate house.

Half a minute later, the hat shouted "SLYTHERIN!!"

The student body gave a lacklustre applause for the boy, and the Slytherin house was silent as the boy is not known to them, his name Wick is not known to them and so they concluded that the boy is a mudblood, and that left a bitter taste in their mouth.

On the Gryffindor side, a bushy brown haired girl was looking at John with surprise etched on her face.

A raven haired emerald eyed boy asked her "Do you know him, Hermione?"

Shaking her head she immediately said "No! I don't know, Harry."

Right after that she asked herself 'Why did I deny knowing John?'

Harry nodded his head, and observed John curiously as he had met the boy before entering the train. 'He said that he is an orphan and a muggle born. So why is he in Slytherin?' A question that he didn't get the answer to.

A red headed boy sitting next to Harry said "I told you he's bad news when I first saw him!"

"What do you mean by that, Ron?" Another boy asked Ron.

"You see, the first time I met him he tried to make me look like a bad guy in front of Harry and he left the compartment the next second." Ron said.

Hermione, hearing that, looked even more surprised and thought 'So I missed him in their compartment?'

Harry on the other hand thought 'He only told Ron that it is insensitive of him to ask me about the day I lost both my parents.'

Different from all the peculiar looks and thoughts of the student body, John's thoughts were different 'Where can I watch the clouds?'

As he sat down everyone on the table looked at him with looks that could kill. John only looked at them once and understood that they are not keen on having a muggle born in their house. 'Not my problem.'

After the sorting ended, the feast started. And John only took what he needed to keep his body in shape and to function like a normal human being, nothing more nothing less.

"Troublesome..... " John muttered to himself as he entered the Slytherin common room as everyone was looking ready to pounce on him at any moment.

The one who took the lead was of course a platinum haired boy and his two giant cornies.

Looking up at John in disdain, as John has more height than his peers due to him maintaining his body in tip top shape.

"You are not welcome here, Mudblood." The boy started "I don't know what you did, and what you think, but you are not one of us."

Nodding his head, John asked the boy "What of it?"

Sneering at John, the boy said "You won't be staying in Slytherin at all."

Again nodding his head, John said addressing everyone in the room "I know that I not welcome here *Yawn* and I don't care about it at all. If you guys don't want me to share the same common room as you lot, I can leave too."

Hearing that all of them smirked in triumph, especially the boy who started to speak to John.

"But, are you all ready to take responsibility for getting the house points reduced?" John asked them and confusion was apparent in their eyes, well the first years to be exact and the seniors understood what he meant by that.

Not wanting to see a mudblood get one over on their own, one of the Slytherin seniors spoke out loud "You will use your room, never linger around the common area."

"I can do that, if you will give me the time table on time, or else I would be late to the classes." John said.

The senior just nodded at him in understanding.

Suddenly, the platinum haired boy shouted at the senior "Why are you allowing him to use our things?"

Looking at the boy, the senior said in a calm tone, "Malfoy, come with me, I'll explain it to you."

Shooting a look at John, Malfoy shouted "We're not done Mudblood!"

John just shook his head and went to his room where his trunk was placed. Jumping on to his bed after closing the door, John drifted into slumber.

"Mr. Wick, it seems to me that you are late for my class." The stern Prof. McGonagall said as she looked at the clock which showed that it had only been one minute since the class started.

"Sorry Prof. I got lost on the road of life." John said as he suppressed a huge yawn that was coming from his depths.

Her eyebrows twitched while hearing the excuse, but didn't mind it and warned him "Since you were only late for a minute, and this is your first day, I won't be deducting any points."

"Understood." John replied.

"Good. Then take a seat Mr. Wick." Prof said as she motioned John to enter the class.

Sitting down in an empty seat, John looked at the only friend of his in Hogwarts, Hermione, but she was trying her best to not to look at him. He promptly understood why and a wry smile appeared on his face.

After the end of the class, John left alone in a different direction than his peers, and Hermione followed him without anybody knowing.

As he was leisurely walking along the corridor, Hermione came up to him and asked "Why didn't you tell me that you're also a wizard?"

Looking at her he asked "Why didn't you tell me you were a witch?"

"Because I only found out after meeting with Prof. McGonagall!" Hermione said.

"Same for me. In my case it was Prof. Snape who came and said I was a wizard. He also told me not to speak about Hogwarts or magic to anyone, which I agreed." John told her, and hearing that she calmed down a bit.

Looking at John, she fidgeted for a bit and started to say "John, there's this intense rivalry going on between Slytherin and Gryffindor."

"So?" John asked, knowing what's going to come.
