Chapter 98: Quidditch

In the library, William saw the golden trio arrive to show Madam Pince a permission slip to borrow a book from the restricted section. This marked the beginning of the young wizards' plan. From now on, there would be a total of thirty days until they could set their plan for the Polyjuice Potion into motion.

The following morning, William did his daily routine and even went to the library to finish his reading from the day before. After all, today was special in this second arc of the story.

Today would mark a before and after in the events of the Chamber of Secrets, as it was the day the first incident against a student would occur.

William closed his book; everyone would be busy with the Quidditch match between Slytherin and Gryffindor, making it the best opportunity to get Tom Riddle's diary into his hands.

Everyone who knew William knew very well that he was not one to attend a Quidditch game. Truthfully, he was one of the people who cared the least about the House Cup or similar activities. Some even thought he possibly didn't care about being part of Hogwarts at all, but here he was, being a spectator at a Quidditch match.

Cho Chang was one of the first to see him and approached the young man, leaving her friend behind.

"You don't usually come to these matches," said Cho, catching the attention of the white-haired boy.

"Oh, umm... Yes, today I decided to get some fresh air for a change," he looked around, scanning the Gryffindor stands; there would be his target.

Cho followed William's gaze. "Are you looking for someone?"

"Mmmm... I'm just seeing if these matches are really that popular. I should be able to find all my classmates, don't you think?" He kept looking.

Then, out of nowhere, a roar began. William looked towards the field where the Gryffindor members were appearing with their brooms in hand. Not only did Gryffindor cheer for them, but also Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Even Cho Chang, who was next to William, started clapping.

On the other hand, as the Slytherin students entered the field, they were booed, and there were whistles from all sides.

Madam Hooch, who was the Quidditch instructor, made both captains shake hands before starting the match.

William stopped watching the match at that moment. Truthfully, he didn't care at all, but the girl next to him was completely focused on its progress. It would be very rude to leave her there alone, and besides, with his "Mind's Eye," he could keep scanning the students in the stands until he found the youngest Weasley, who currently possessed Tom Riddle's diary.

A few minutes passed until William finally spotted the girl among all the wizards present. Of course, it wasn't prudent to go for her at this moment; it would only make things more difficult.

"What's happening?!" Cho Chang pulled William by the arm and brought him closer to the stands to see what was going on. "The Bludger!" she pointed with her finger.

"It's enchanted," William responded immediately.

"Exactly!" she exclaimed euphorically. "This is cheating; there was no need to cheat to win against Gryffindor. Harry could even get hurt."

"But we can't do anything. The ones with the power now are the Gryffindor captain, Harry, and Madam Hooch. It all comes down to two choices: Harry faces the rogue Bludger, or they decide to lose to Slytherin."

"Lose to Slytherin?" Cho Chang frowned unconsciously and hugged William's arm even tighter. "Harry Potter will face the challenge. All Gryffindors hate losing to Slytherin."

Just as Cho Chang said, even after the break, nothing changed, and Harry decided to face the challenge. He had a role to fulfill as the Seeker, and he finally did, even with the rogue Bludger that tried to take his life, even when he was on the ground.

Once he showed he had caught the Golden Snitch, the match ended with Gryffindor's victory, but Harry didn't come out unscathed from his own challenge. One of his arms was broken. They just had to wait for the nurse to arrive, and then everything would be solved; after all, it was just a broken arm at that moment.

Before the nurse arrived, Lockhart had stepped forward with a big smile, now seeking to restore the young wizard's arm with one of the magics that seemed easiest to him.

"Professor Lockhart will help Harry with his treatment," said Cho, relieved.

William could only smirk; he couldn't hear what they were saying, but he already knew everything that would happen. He watched as Lockhart used his magic, and then Harry's arm, far from being fixed, simply had no bone.

Seeing the scene in person, William couldn't help but let out a laugh at the situation. Seeing the stunned faces of everyone present, Lockhart trying to make excuses, and Harry himself not knowing what to say, was like a movie.

It was then that they took Harry away on a stretcher to the infirmary, where it was the only place they could make his arm bone grow back.

On the other hand, William shifted his attention from the boy and looked at the redhead who was leaving the stadium. Now the important part began: tonight was crucial to get the diary.

As the students dispersed and murmurs filled the air, William followed Ginny discreetly. He observed how the young Weasley moved away from the stadium's noise and headed towards the castle's less frequented corridors. He kept a prudent distance, making sure not to draw attention.

Ginny seemed lost in her thoughts, with a somber expression on her face. William noticed she was carrying a backpack, probably where she kept the diary. He followed her until she entered an empty classroom.

William approached slowly, taking advantage of the moment to activate his "Mind's Eye" and ensure no one else was nearby. Cautiously, he slightly pushed the door open, creating a small gap to observe Ginny inside. The young girl was sitting at a desk, taking the diary out of her backpack and looking at it with a mix of fear and fascination.

He knew this was his moment. With firm determination, William would have to wait until she moved to the girls' bathroom on the second floor. He would have to be quick and precise, but thanks to the invisibility magic he had learned a year ago, he could do it without her noticing.

Night was approaching, and with it, the opportunity William had been waiting for.
