Rituals! Part-1

AN: '''Things inside the triple apostrophe are written inside a book or a diary'''

-----------------

{Harry's Dorm room, Hogwarts, Scotland}

{09:23 AM, 24rd Jan 1992}

'''...now before, we begin any forays into ritualistic magic, it is advised for the user to be proficient in Occlumency, having complete control of your thoughts is a basic requirement before attempting any rituals. Remember to never attempt a ritual without being at least a Tier 2 Occlumus...'''

Harry started at these words for a bit, he was a little confused about what the author meant by Tier 2, is Occlumency divided at levels too? He walked towards a bookshelf and pulled out a book that had detailed instructions on Occlumency and Legilimency, a Christmas gift by Daphne.

'''...the 5 Tiers of Occlumency and how to become the master of your own Mind...'''

'''...tier 1 Occlumency, is the start of a journey into your own mind, to be recognized as a tier 1 Occlumus you need to scatter your thoughts and focus on nothing, or maybe just one particular thing within 2 seconds, while under a Legilimency probe... Anyone proficient enough will be able to stop a Legilimus long enough to avert your eyes and break the mental intrusion...'''

'''...tier 2 Occlumency, to be called a tier 2 Occlumus you need to be able to detect a Legilimency probe and break the mental connection within 5 seconds...After reaching this level you can start working on your Occlumency barriers that would automatically stop any intrusion from ever happening... Tier 2 Occlumus are supposed to have complete control over their thought process and can concentrate on a specific task for a long period of time...'''

'So that's why the basic requirement for practicing Ritualistic magic is Tier 2 Occlumency, to focus on your goal so that the delicate balance of sacrificial magic doesn't get affected.' Harry closed the Occlumency book and returned to the basic books on rituals once again...

'''...Now, one of the most basic principles of magic you should have learned by now would be that any magic is balanced, for example, no matter how much you try, you would not be able to transfigure something into real Gold, or Mithril, or Adamantium. The reason behind that is the magic present in the metals themselves. They can only be made by alchemy, which is a magical branch solely focused on the creation of metals and transforming matter permanently. Now, in the same way, as potions are a way to give or gain special enchantments or ward off potential illness temporarily, during the creation of potions one needs to use several magical ingredients to get to the final result...'''

'''... Rituals could be somehow considered to be permanent potions, in a way, while potions take the magic from the ingredients present in nature itself, Rituals combine potions with the sacrifices you have to make yourself to constantly gain that advantage...'''

'Wait so that means I can't like sacrifice magical creatures to gain an enhancement, I would need to sacrifice something myself?' Harry was a bit disappointed by this, he was looking forward to doing a lot of rituals to gain power.

'''...while it is uncommon, there are ways to circumvent the self-sacrifice aspect of the rituals and instead force someone else to burden the sacrifice onto them, but the rule stays the same, the target of the ritual would have to handle the burden onto themselves, that means you would get the enhancement as long as the target is alive. In theory, you could impose these limitations on creatures but you would need to modify the rituals for them to work...'''

'Status...' Harry thought and he looked at the new skill that he had gained.

Harry sighed and focused his attention on the books on various runes that were sprawled on his table.

'Well, it's time to start grinding...'

"...So you are going to perform your first Ritual during the break?" Daphne asked, she was feeling a little sad, her trunk was packed and she was ready to go home for the two-week break for Easter, Hector never talked about how his studies have been going, he just shuts himself up in his room with the books she gave him and then the next batch that he had asked for, at least he could explain to her what this was about, if he had told her about the fact that he would try out the first ritual during the break, then she would have stayed in Hogwarts and even helped him through it.

"Yes, although finding a secluded place to perform one would still be required, and you need to get me those ingredients and the two turtles..." Harry reminded her again and she nodded, a bit annoyed that the only reason he even mentioned the ritual to her was that he needed some ingredients that he could not possibly get hold of.

"Yeah I got it, sneak into Hogsmeade in three days through the tunnel that you found, and I'll get mother to apparate me there along with the ingredients, and if you want someplace secluded then you could either ask the house elves about it or make a hideout somewhere in the forest behind Hogsmeade, I don't think anyone would search there..." Daphne gave an idea and Hector's eyes shined at the suggestion.

Having grown up in bunkers, Harry was more comfortable digging up his own hideout, one that no one knew about, that idea was infinitely more appealing to him than to trust a House elf, okay maybe he could give that a try but it was a big-big maybe, Harry nodded to her once again, "You go, enjoy your easter, I'll send you a letter if I need something else," Harry spoke before he walked back towards the dungeons.

Daphne felt a pang of loss as he turned around without even saying goodbye but she sighed and turned away, there was no reason to dwell on her mixed feelings, so she picked up her trunk and walked towards the entrance, Tracy soon joined her as they made their way towards Hogsmeade.

From the corner of her eyes, Daphne watched Charlus Potter approach Hector, before they both vanished from her line of sight...

'Third time is not a coincidence...' she thought as her mind began to wonder about the weird connection between Hector and the Potters.
