Chapter 66

Hadrian was going through reports sent by Marcus.Chronos had been expanding and recruiting new members, while Rebecca, Sam and Leah came to meet him.

First it was mainly everyday reports then Sam told Hadrian about intruders"We didn't have many this time, but the one that repeatedly comes it the red head."

Hadrian sighed and muttered"Victoria."

All three nodded, while Rebecca added"She seems to be aware of the fact, we are watching over Bella and Charlie, she makes sure to keep a distance whenever scouting them out."

Hadrian nodded and said"Make sure to keep patrolling strong, I don't want one of you mess up, when confronting her she is strong and very tricky opponent, so do not underestimate her."

Leah sighed and said"The rain is washing away the scent,it is becoming much harder for thr less expericed members to keep up with her."

Hadrian nodded and turning back to the window, where rain is pouring heavily, Hadrian replied"I will call Demetri and his trained scouts to help you out."

This got a nod of agreement from the wolves,while Hadrian then asked Rebecca"I heard your your dad found 16 year old girl trying to rob his bike."

Rebecca chuckled and answered"Bree Tanner,a girl from Neveda.She is now staying at out home,you know how mom is."

Hadrian smiled at that,but Rebecca then frowned and added"Her story isn't nice,she has an abusive father and from what Bree told us a ran way mother.No one ever noticed the signs of her abusive home life, despite some physical evidence.Finally, Bree could no longer stand his abuse and ran away from home a few weeks before her sixteenth birthday. She had enough money for a bus ride to Seattle, but nothing more than that. She tried unsuccessfully to get a job, and began stealing in order to eat. She slept in parks and alleys—any place where she felt a little bit safe."

Hadrian asked"The authorities were notified of this right?"

Rebecca nodded and replied"We did,you should have see how scared she was when we spoke about this.Her biggest fear was that the police would catch her and send her home to her father.

When the authorities caught the father it was revaled that,Bree's father murdered her mother. He buried the body in the desert,when she was four."

Hadrian felt bad and muttered"Don't worry,I will make sure to notify the right people to give Mr.Tanner a very nice welcome in the prison."

This made Sam smirk,while Leah and Rebecca nodded.

But in Seattle problem was starting as rain comes down in sheets, slapping the cobblestone. Bright lights from the surrounding bars, reflected off the wet stones. The dull thud of rock music wafts out. A bar door opens – the music briefly blasts out as a young man exits; he is Riley, 22, genial, handsome, a university student full of promise. He pauses under the awning, preparing to face the rain. He slings a messenger bag over his shoulder laden with thick school texts. He waves to his friends in the window before heading into the downpour.

In another street, which is dark, deserted. Riley makes his way up to it. Suddenly, a shadow flies past him, moving at an unhuman speed. Riley pauses... what was that? Unnerved, he speeds his step, about to round a corner but suddenly something leaps over him, knocking him backward to the ground! It moves so fast we, again, saw only a brief shadow, Riley panics now...Riley shouted out"Who's there?"

No response. Riley bolts in a different direction

to yet another street, where Riley runs, beelining toward the end of the street at which stands an apartment building with a brightly lit lobby and a security guard. Safety.

The waterfront at night,Riley finds himself on the deserted boardwalk. Beyond the trail, black water. A dead end. He turns realzing he's utterly alone. He's been herded here. He searches the darkness for whatever's chasing him and yelled again"Who's there?. What do you want?."

The shadow darts pas him; Riley yanks his hand back, which caused him to yell in pain"OH GOD!"

He grips his hand in pain, looks at it to find a crescent moon shape on his palm, blood seeping out. He's been hit!

His confusion and terror turn to agony as the venom from the bite crawls up his arm. Riley drops to his knees crying out in pain. Then falls, writhing as the venom spreads throughout his body, changing him, k*ll his humanity.
