Before Death

POV: Yancy

My younger brother and I were supposed to defend the city of Anchorage. There was a new Kaiju attack called Knifehead. I was a little worried because it was the biggest Kaiju ever. We were woken up at 2am and we immediately began to prepare. My brother was energetic, as always, but I really needed several tens of hours of sleep.

"Wake up! This will be our greatest victory!" Raleigh said.

"Yes, yes, as you say, brother."

"You can take your time. Torterra is sailing to intercept this Kaiju," Choi told us over the communicator.

"No! Are you serious? This Kaiju was ours!" Raleigh was not satisfied, for him only the achievement of new records was important.

"Choi, do you mean our exit is cancelled?" I asked our operator with hope in my voice. I really wanted to sleep a little more.

"Of course no! Marshal will not allow Torterra to fight alone."

"Perfectly! All around me are jokers." These jokes gave me a headache.

"More fun, old man! We need to get ahead of Torterra. That will be our task for today!" Raleigh said, slapping me on the back. We went into a room where the workers of this base helped us to put on our super suits. These were special suits that improved the feeling during drifting.

"Hey, brother! Why do you think the Marshal is so worried about Torterra?" I asked my younger brother when we were already in our Jaeger Gipsy Danger.

"Am I to ignore the fact that Torterra killed the Kaiju himself at the beginning of the war and helped us get through that time with little casualties?"

"You know I'm not talking about that! What was Marshal talking to Torterra about for so long alone? And there is also that strange story about the drawings." I continued to ask my brother questions. He was really distracted and didn't ask too many questions, but it was all strange to me.

"HA-HA-HA-HA! After that story at the base, people say they won't show their drawings to the boss again." Raleigh ignored the main part of the question and continued to joke. People never showed their drawings to Marshall, but that didn't stop them from joking about it.

"Concentrate! Torterra will intercept the Kaiju at a depth of 800 meters (2600 feet), so the battle will take place underwater in difficult conditions. We haven't had underwater battles yet, so be serious." When Marshal entered the command center, he immediately ended our conversations. He didn't care what people said about him.

"Yes sir!" We answered at the same time, because we were already in the drift. Our Jaeger was picked up by new high-tech planes, and we flew to hunt. We have repeatedly asked the development department to equip our Gipsy Danger with a jetpack, but they said it would be difficult to do because the fuel is very explosive and not suitable for fighting, but they are working on a solution.

POV: Torterra

BOOMSHHHHH

There was the sound of something heavy hitting the water, and I saw Jaeger sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Its searchlights illuminated the ocean floor, and in the center of its chest it had a large fan to cool the engine. This robot looked really cool.

This was my second meeting with this Jaeger. But unfortunately I forgot his name or even the names of these pilots.

"Oh, no! Have you already beaten him?" Jaeger told me through sign language.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise. I felt like I stole a kill in some video game and got scolded for it.

"He's still alive." I answered him. The kaiju only had external skin damage and a broken jaw. It wasn't enough to kill him.

We both looked at the Kaiju lying at the bottom of the ocean. Jaeger illuminated him with his searchlights. The skin on his upper body was burned, but he was still alive. Slowly he began to regain consciousness and rise.

I could have killed him now, but thought it a good idea to let the Jaeger fight him. This moment is fateful for humanity. Jaegers will often lose against Kaiju from now on, so it might be a good idea to let them realize that now. Even a small exchange of blows will tell the difference between them. This Kaiju was 100 meters (328 feet) tall when the Jaeger was about 80 meters (262 feet) tall. The difference was obvious.

Knifehead rose to his feet and surveyed his surroundings. Miraculously his eyes were not damaged or rather not all of his eyes were damaged. It was hard for me to tell because he had 4 eyes I guess. He looked at me first and then at Jaeger. The Kaiju froze for a second, as if thinking about what to do, then swooped sharply at the Jaeger.

GGRRRAAAHHH

He growled at Jaeger. He looked very scary. His broken mouth was constantly open and wobbled by the streams of water as he moved. Neon light shone from his mouth and eyes. The twisted and burned skin gave him the appearance of a giant monster from a horror movie.

Jaeger took a step forward and took a fighting position. I in turn took a step back to give them room to fight. I was ready to intervene if necessary, but I felt that this boys would benefit from defeat.

POV: Raleigh

"He looks angry!" Yancy told me.

"And when they are not angry? Here he comes, get ready!" I shouted back.

The Kaiju was heading towards us at high speed. He clung to the bottom of the ocean with his long arms to speed up. When he was next to us, he swung his hand at us and hit us.

BOOM

We put up a block to protect our head, but the force of the blow was too great and we lost our balance. The impact threw us to the right. We did not have time to recover from the blow when we were hit in the stomach.

AAAHHHH

We screamed in pain as Jaeger fell on his back. Every blow to Jaeger was felt as if we were hit directly. In my opinion, this was a flaw in drifting with Jaeger.

"Load the gun!" yelled Yancy, and we did. Our right hand transformed and began to glow, gaining power to fire.

The Kaiju didn't leave us and continued to beat us while we lay on the bottom of the ocean.

BOOM! BOOM!

His powerful hands made dents in our robot. We tried to defend ourselves with our left hand and prepared our right hand to fire the cannon. When the cannon was loaded, we kicked the Kaiju away and aimed the cannon at him.

PPUUUHHHHHHHHHH

PPUUUHHHHHHHHHH

We fired two shots. For a few seconds, the darkness of the ocean receded, and we could see the Kaiju in full. He tried to dodge the shots, but he did not succeed. The first shot hit the left arm and made a hole in it, from which blue blood began to flow into the ocean. And the second shot hit him in the head, burning the left half of his face and blinding him from that side.

GGGREEAAAAAA

Swordhead screamed in pain. He was seriously injured, but did not give up. With all his weight, he again swam forward and displaying his sword, which was on his head.

We tried to divert his sword to the side by hitting him with the fist of our left hand, but his sword hit directly into our right hand, which had a cannon. We fired again, but it hit the water void. A moment later, our right arm was torn off.

AAAAAHHHH

My brother and I screamed in pain as we felt our arm being ripped off. We felt that we were going to lose and fear began to creep into our hearts.

The kaiju grabbed us with his large hands on either side of our waists and dug his claws into our bodies, tearing the metal on our robot's body. We tried to fight him off with the hand we had left, we hit him on the face, but he didn't seem to mind. He lifted us above him and slammed us hard against the bottom of the ocean.

Mule rose from the bottom and blocked the view of the Kaiju. We did not see him, but we knew that the next attack was coming now. His hands still held us. When the mule parted, we saw the sharp sword of its head descend straight to our chests. We blocked this attack with our arm, but it pierced through our arm and sank into our chest, piercing it.

AAAAAAAAHHHHH

A great pain filled us. We grabbed our chests and screamed. We felt as if a knife had been thrust into our hearts. The light from our Jaeger's searchlights went out and all we saw were brief flashes of light from the micro-explosions from our chests.

Yeger has completely lost combat capability. We could only watch as a huge Kaiju head emerged from our Jaeger's chest. He raised his head above us. His mouth continued to glow and we saw him swinging for another blow. This time he aimed for the head, where my brother and I were. We will die after this attack. That was the end for us.

When you drift with someone, you don't just know each other's thoughts. At that moment, I felt not only my emotions, but also the emotions of my brother. I looked at him and watched him look at the Kaiju who was bringing his sword down on us.

I felt his fear, despair, reluctance, fatigue, but most of all he was sorry that I would die with him. I didn't even have time to deal with my own emotions, let alone my older brother's.

When the head of the Kaiju was already a few meters away from us, it stopped. We were surprised and did not understand what was happening. In the next second, the Kaiju's head suddenly twisted around its axis and turned unnaturally to the side.

CCREEEEKK

A loud crunch sounded under the water. And Knifehead began to descend on us little by little. He was dead and his hands had let go of our Jaeger's body. Torterra was standing behind the Kaiju, looking at us sternly. We completely forgot about him.

Our Jaeger ran out of energy and our drift stopped, the lights in the room went out and the last thing we saw were Torterra's eyes before we were plunged into darkness.
