Chapter 3: Strength and Compassion
As Usopp turned five, he felt a newfound determination surging within him. Recognizing the need to develop his physical strength, he devised a training schedule that would push his limits. Each day, he diligently lifted weights and engaged in various exercises, striving to become stronger and more capable. With unwavering dedication, Usopp honed his body, building muscles and endurance that surpassed his young age.
One sunny day, while engrossed in his training routine deep within the forest, Usopp heard the faint sound of someone crying. Curiosity piqued, he followed the sound until he discovered a girl, tears streaming down her face. Concerned, Usopp cautiously approached her and initiated a conversation.
"Hey there, why are you crying?" Usopp asked, his voice gentle and comforting.
The girl, Kaya, sniffled and wiped her tears. "I-I'm all alone. My parents... they were killed by pirates while they were traveling on a ship. I have no one left," she replied, her voice filled with sorrow.
Usopp's heart ached for Kaya, his admiration for her growing stronger in that moment. He sat beside her, offering a comforting presence. "It's okay to cry, Kaya. Sometimes life is tough, and we need to let it out. But remember, giving up is not the answer. We must stay strong and keep moving forward, even in the face of adversity."
For almost half an hour, Kaya poured out her grief and fears to Usopp, finding solace in his compassionate presence. As her tears subsided, she looked at Usopp with gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you, Usopp. You're right. I won't give up. I'll find the strength to carry on."
As Kaya walked away, Usopp's thoughts turned inward. He couldn't help but imagine the pain and despair that would consume him if something were to happen to his beloved mother, Bachina. A sudden realization struck him—in the canon he remembers the fate of his mother, who would fall ill and eventually pass away. With a renewed sense of urgency, Usopp rushed back home, hoping to find his mother in good health.
Arriving at their humble abode, Usopp found Bachina cooking their dinner, a smile gracing her face. His heart sank, realizing that there might still be time to seek treatment for her. Determined, Usopp resolved to earn the money necessary to secure a doctor for his mother's well-being.
Driven by his goal, Usopp reached out to his neighbors, asking if there was any work he could do in exchange for money. However, his young age and innocent appearance made it challenging for others to take him seriously. Repeated rejections left Usopp feeling discouraged, but he refused to give up.
One day, as Usopp pondered his predicament while exercising on the beach, a boat suddenly docked nearby. A mysterious figure emerged, wearing a coat that concealed their face. Usopp's curiosity piqued, and he approached the enigmatic stranger cautiously, his eyes filled with hope and anticipation.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you need any help? I'm willing to work," Usopp inquired, his voice echoing with determination.
The man turned to face Usopp, a glimmer of intrigue in his eyes. "Work, you say? Perhaps you could be of use. I have a proposition for you, young lad. But first, tell me, what motivates you to seek a work?"
Usopp's voice was resolute as he replied, "I want to earn money to help my mother. She needs medical treatment, and I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen."
The man's eyes softened, and he nodded approvingly. "A noble cause, indeed. Very well, young lad. If you're willing to prove your worth, I may have a task for you."
