Gliese: Memories of Modern Earth

In the Gliese 268 system, lying 20 light years away from our earth, exists a highly advanced species called Glinos, their technology far exceeds that of humanity. An Astronomer sent a message with the use of the tower that can communicate directly with our sun, secretly establishing a cult with Glinos as their worship, giving away our coordinates of earth, thereby having them colonize through the astronomers suggestion. The Astronomers colleague and friend gathered many humans on earth who worshiped or in ah of Glinos power, thus forming the greatest cult to welcome the Glino Fleet, this cult was later labeled as a terrorist due to terrorizing humanity. This cult had many financial connections, and they established a new comms tower that can communicate with our star.

Ivan felt that the 8 people in front of him came with a strange combination: 4 police officers, 4 soldiers. It would be normal if these were armed police officers but the 4 soldiers in Army OCPs were Military Police.

Ivan did not like the police that came to him with the U.S army at first glance. Nothing good will come out of this. Actually the young ones in uniform were okay people and behaved very politely when he first met Ivan, but the person with big bold shoulders, plainclothes, tall and thick as body builder. with a thin face, wearing dirt, smelled like cigarettes, alcohol, and sweat, speaking in a rough deep voice. He was the type to be disliked by scientists like him the most.

"Ivan?" the man asked. Calling his name out made him feel some doubt, besides he was still lighting his cigarette without raising his head. This is a great form of disrespect to him. Before Ivan could answer, motioned to the young officer next to him. The latter showed a warrant signed by the local judge, his officer's badge and ID, after lighting his cigarette was finished, he went straight into Ivan's apartment.

"Please don't smoke in front of my home!" Ivan tried to stopped him

"Oh, I'm sorry, Doctor Ivan, This is our great captain Alex." The young officer said with a smile, winking at his captain to give him the go ahead.

"No need, let's talk in the apartment corridors." Alex took a deep breath of depression. The cigarette burnt fast and half of it was nearly gone, but there was no exhale of the smoke.

"You should speak." Alex turned his head to the young police officer.

"Doctor Ivan, we want to know something. Recently you have been in contact with an organization, correct?" The young officer took out his notepad and pen.

"Profession's Frontiers of Science is an academic organization with great influence today in 2040, it also has connections around the world such as Harvard or Texa University, all of the people there are as famous as online celebrities. Why can't I hang out with such a legal academic organization?"

"Pfft!" Alex laughed, and said, "Did we say it's illegal? Did we say we won't let you touch or hangout with such a thing? Besides, we don't have a proper reason or a warrant." As he spoke, the smoke from his breath that was held in his mouth just now sprayed all over Ivan's face and clothing.

"This is an invasion of rights, I don't have to answer your questions."

"Everything is a right and privilege, A famous doctor like you should be responsible for your actions and words." Alex threw away the cigarette brand Cameral butt in his hands, and took another Cigarette, but this time a big cigar.

"I have the right to an attorney and not to answer, please go ahead." Ivan turned back into his room.

"Wait!" Alex sharpy said, waving his hand to the young officer next to him,

"Give him the address and phone number, please free up your afternoon along with the airplane ticket." Alex turned to head as he said the last sentence.

"What are you doing?!" Ivan was angry at him. This quarrel caused several heads from the apartment corridor to pop out.

"Captain, you said you~" The young officer pulled aside Captain Alex. Obviously Ivans was not the only one who was very uncomfortable with his direct personality.

"Doctor Ivan, please don't get us wrong" A MP hurriedly stepped forward with the insignia on his uniform that represents Warrant Officers, "There is a very important meeting for figures like you in the afternoon, and several professors will be invited to attend. The General wanted us to invite you."

"I am very busy in the afternoon, I am very close to getting my research done."

"We have known this, The General has already greeted your team of strong interaction force conductors. We can't make do with this meeting without you. We have made appointments to postpone your meetings."

Alex and his team didn't speak any more, turned around and went to an elevator to head downstairs. The officers let out a sigh of relief.

"Why is your captain like this?" The Warrant Officer who spoke to Ivan some time ago asked.

"He has done a lot of bad things. In a intense situation, he acted without instructions and orders, regarding the life of the hostage nonexistence, thereby the criminals in the bank killed several others; in the new years, he tortured a person by water torture and humiliation, in order to get a confession, the suspect was later then disabled, sued him and he was suspended."

"How can a person enter the Military Operation Combat Center?"

"Our General called him by name. There should be something special about him. However, restrictions on him are very strict. He can't know any information except for public affairs"

Operation Combat Center? What do they mean by that? Looked at the officers in front of him in puzzlement, looking at the airplane ticket he received.

This airplane ticket was addressed to you with a private designated plane to Fort Sill, OK. Deciding the information was useless at the moment, he went back to his comfort of home.

The car that picked up Ivan drove towards the airport, leaving him to his plane.

An hour has passed as Ivan's airplane has landed, with another vehicle to pick him up in a compound on the outskirts of the city. From the gate with many MPs stationed at the gate but no unit patch on the left, Ivan knew that this was the territory of the military, not the police.

Driving by, Ivan looked outside to see a sign.

'Welcome to Fort Sill'

The meeting was held in a hall. As soon as Ivan entered, he was surprised by the chaos here. There is a circle of computer equipment randomly placed around the hall. Some tables cannot be placed on the table and are placed directly on the floor. Electric wires and network cables are tangled and scattered on the ground. A large pile of network switches are not placed in the racks, but are piled on the servers. ; There were several large projector screens standing randomly in the corner of the hall at different angles, like gypsy tents; smoke floated in the air like morning mist... Ivan didn't know if this was that. What the military officer said about the combat center, he was sure of one thing: the things being dealt with here made it impossible for people to care about him or anything else.

This makeshift conference table to his far left was also piled with documents and sundries. Most of the soldiers and those in suits looked tired, they're clothes were rumpled, and their ties were torn off, as if they had stayed up all night. The meeting was chaired by an Army General named Nguyen, and half of the attendees were soldiers. After a brief introduction, he knew that there were a small number of police officers, and the others were experts and scholars who attended the meeting like him. Several of them were very famous scientists, and some even studied in college with him.

What surprised him was that there were foreigners, and the identities of these people surprised him: two of them were also soldiers, a colonel in the China PLA and a Field Marshal in the British Army, serving as NATO liaison officers; the other two were actually Russian officers, who is the role of observer here?
