Ch.6 Knights

"How are the hands of the king so incompetent!" Said Oberyn while sipping wine in The Water Gardens, watching Sylas swing his sword.

"The king is mad, only fools would stay in King's Landing, what are you expecting from desperate and ambitious dickheads, you should send a small guard to your sister if something happens, she and her children will pay the highest price," Sylas said while wiping his sweat with a towel that his sister, Jennelyn, gave to him.

"I know, but Doran won't let me move men, and I can't go by myself." He muttered.

"I'm sorry, I appreciate you, but I'm not going, the king will burn me alive if he sees me, I'm too beautiful," Sylas said while patting his sister's head.

"I'm not sending your weak ass, don't worry, I don't know what to do, the rebels have already won a decisive battle, it's been some time and the smallfolk are already calling it The battle of the Bells," Oberyn said.

"You should ask some capable knights or even some hedge knights to go by themselves and tell the king that they are there to protect him, the Prince wouldn't argue such an action, if things seem dire, they can just take the Princess and her children," Sylas said after drinking some water.

"Yeah, I'll have to do that, I'll lose some gold for my sister's protection, it's worth it," Oberyn said while standing up and leaving.

"And you, my dear little sister, do you need something?" Sylas asked his sister as he sat on the chair that Oberyn left.

"Nope, I wanted to help you, today is really hot." She said softly with a charming smile.

"All right, I'm done with my training, do you want to play?" Sylas stood up and smiled at his sister.

"You should be tired, let's go and eat something!" Jennelyn said.

"You mean me cooking for you?" Sylas asked with a knowing smile.

Jennelyn went completely red as she whispered. "You won't teach me how to cook for you."

"You are too young, when you can sew me a full outfit and it's really cute, I'll consider teaching you," Sylas said while patting her head.

Brother and sister went towards the kitchen, where Sylas started making noodles, to make a soup, while Jennelyn swung her legs while sitting, looking at him and humming a song.

"Jen?" A young girl asked from outside of the kitchen.

"Nymeria! Big brother is cooking, come in!" She said excitedly.

A small and pale Nymeria entered. "Big brother!" She yelled with a smile on her face as she ran towards Sylas.

"I'm cooking, don't jump on me," Sylas said calmly.

'Should I take Oberyn to The Tower of Joy? I don't know if he'll be of any help though, Elia will be dead and Eddard is an ally of the ones that did it, but if I go alone, I'll have a difficult time against Arthur and the other Kingsguards.' While the two girls were talking Sylas thought.

"My lord," Dareon asked from the door of the kitchen.

"Mhm?" Sylas looked at the door.

"Prince Rhaegar Targaryen has been slain in battle." He said calmly.

"When?" Sylas asked as he continued to cut vegetables.

"Three days ago." He said.

"I hope Oberyn has sent people to King's Landing, I don't want to fight a war so young," Sylas said with a mocking smile.

"He organized ten to twenty men to depart immediately, and as soon as he received the news he made them move as fast as possible."

"All right, thank you for telling me, now we just wait for the Lannister to move and the whole painting will be revealed," Sylas said. 'Everything is going according to my memories, I'll wait till the Tyrells retreat from Storm's End to depart towards The Tower of Joy.'

Unfortunately, in the eleventh month of the year 282, multiple guards flooded The Water Gardens as Sylas was training with Oberyn.

"What's the meaning of this?" Oberyn yelled while grabbing his spear, at his side, Sylas with a sword in hand, ready to cleave through people.

"Prince Oberyn, we bring bad news and we were ordered to take you to Sunspear by orders of Prince Doran." A guard from house Martell talked.

"What bad news, talk!" Oberyn yelled.

The knight couldn't speak, but in the end, he saw Oberyn's fury reaching boiling point, he had to. "The treacherous Lannisters betrayed King Aerys II and ransacked King's Landing, raping and pillaging everything, then, they gave the city and keep to Robert Baratheon, who was crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms… Princess Elia Martell was raped and murdered by Ser Gregor Clegane and her children were completely massacred by Ser Armory Lorch." The guard felt silent as he saw Oberyn fall to his knees.

"Everyone out, we'll go out when the Prince is good enough to do so," Sylas said commandingly, grabbing his sword and looking at the guards.

They backed off while seeing Oberyn being embraced by his daughters and a few weeping girls in the back.

The sounds of the grown man drowned the beautiful gardens, and nobody could help him.

After a few minutes, he fell silent. "I have to go to Sunspear, you guys stay here, I'll see what are we to do for this offense" Oberyn spoke and his tone was filled with poison.

"I'll go with you, Father." Said Obara while stepping forward. "Me too." Said Nymeria and Tyene.

"All right, you'll come with me to Sunspear," Oberyn said and then he looked at Sylas.

"Although I consider myself smart, what's going to be spoken in Sunspear are Martell's words, if war it is, war it shall be, if cloak and dagger it will be, it shall be done," Sylas said calmly, towering above Oberyn, extending his hand to help the man stand up.

"With my brother taking decisions, we won't have to worry about such things," Oberyn said while cleaning his face with a small cloth that he always had in his pocket. Then he made everyone start getting ready to leave for Sunspear. As for Sylas, he was left in The Water Gardens.

Oberyn didn't leave Sunspear for a month yet when Dareon brought news to Sylas, who was training in solace in the water garden, near the main pool of the gardens.

"My lord," Dareon spoke while giving a cloth towel to Sylas.

"Dareon, what's the matter?" Said Sylas while taking the towel and wiping his sweat.

"The rebels have relieved the siege of Storm's End." He said slowly.

Sylas stood quiet for a few seconds, but he recomposed himself. "I guess it's time."

"What for, my lord?" Dareon asked.

"I'll leave for some time, protect my sisters and tell no one, I received a message from someone and I need to go," Sylas said slowly to Dareon. "I'll depart today."

"I can't allow you to leave completely alone, my lord," Dareon said, and as he expected, Sylas smiled and put his sword in between the two of them.

Dareon knew how much Sylas trained, he was diligent, talented, and brave, he knew he could go alone and be all right, but he couldn't allow his lord to go alone. "Let's not do this, let me go with you, please, my lord," Dareon said while kneeling while presenting his sword in front of Sylas.

'Inspect' Sylas thought as he didn't inspect everyone he saw, not even his guards.

Skills: None.

'He doesn't have any ability, but he is dedicated and hardworking. I see him train every day, his loyalty is also at 100%, so I don't think I'll lose something' Sylas thought decisively.

"I take you kneeling means that you want to become my knight?" Sylas said seriously while resting his sword on his shoulder.

"Yes, my lord. I've seen you grow up to be a good man, even if you are of twelve or thirteen namedays, your cleverness is that of an experienced ruler, I've seen how you treat everyone and how much you love your family, I'm willing to give my life and loyalty for someone like that, My lord, Sylas Fowler, allow me to follow you now and forever, I swear to follow your every order and protect you and your family, even if my life has to be forfeited!" Dareon yelled the last part.

Sylas looked straight at the kneeling knight and then looked at the side, where Jeyne and Jenn were peeking. "Pfft, get out little girls," Sylas said and then looked at Dareon. "Rise, my knight, I accept your oath, and I give you an oath myself, I swear to shield you and lead you to greatness, I swear to protect your family in the future and I swear to not make you go hungry never, for I shall take care of you from hereon."

Dareon looked up and saw Sylas extending his hand with a smile on his face, then he looked at his side and saw Jeyne and Jenn giggling at the two. "Thank you, my lord."

"All right, get the most loyal men to protect my sisters and we leave in the morrow," Sylas said while grabbing his linen shirt.

"Where are we going, brother?" Asked Jeyne while hugging Sylas.

"I have to leave for a month or two, you'll stay here and wait patiently for me, all right?" Sylas asked his little sister.

"Can't we go with you?" Jennelyn asked Sylas while pulling his shirt.

"I'm sorry, but I have to go and I can only take Dareon, you'll stay here with the Septas and the other guards. I'll come back really quickly." Said Sylas while kissing Jenn on the forehead, then he saw Jeyne pouting and he kissed her on the forehead as well.

The next day, in the morning, Dareon and Sylas ate with the girls then they left for their destination with minimal equipment.

"Where are we going, my lord? Dareon asked while preparing everything since the first light of the morning was shining over the Water Gardens.

"First, Sunspear, we take a ship to Feakridge, then to the Tower of Joy," Sylas said calmly as he prepared his saddle.

"The Tower of Joy? That's in House Fowler's lands, right?" Dareon asked curiously.

"Yeah, in the Prince's Pass, a bit further from the bottleneck of the pass."
