The Job

Shaun woke up early the next morning. He had a sound sleep, was it because he was tired or was it because the bed and the atmosphere felt warm at Ms. Kay's house, he didn't know. He went downstairs after freshening up and greeted Ms. Kay, "Morning Ms. Kay! Let me help with the breakfast", saying this Shaun washed his hands and went to help Ms. Kay, "Shaun, just call me Mary and it's fine, I'll make the breakfast, why don't you sit and relax", "Well, Mary, that is not acceptable, you are giving me shelter for free, the least I can do is prepare breakfast for you. So why don't you sit and relax while I make the breakfast". Mary looked at Shaun, then accepting defeat smiled and went to get the newspaper while Shaun brewed her a cup or coffee. "Do you like your coffee with cream or just black? ", asked Shaun as he glanced towards the paper in her hand. There was an article about a job offer, a cafe called Choco n' Mocha. "I'll take it black Shaun, thank you. Oh... what is it? Do you see something interesting in the paper? ", asked Mary while accepting the cup of coffee with a smile. "Uh.. sorry, I just saw that there's a job offer as a waiter at a cafe. ", said Shaun, kinda embarrassed that he's actually thinking of doing that work. "I say you should go for it! Maybe not just as a waiter, because this is one of the best coffee I ever had! ", exclaimed Mary to which he smiled and said, "Well then I'll check it out. "

Little while after Mary left for her work and Shaun headed out towards this cafe mentioned in the paper. It wasn't far from Mary's place. Took him 30 min to reach it. He entered the cafe, nervously and went up-to the counter, "Hi, I'm Shaun, I saw the ad in the paper this morning and was hoping if I could apply for the job? ", said Shaun to the girl at the counter. She nodded and went inside to get the manager. The manager was a strict looking well built man, he waved at Shaun, gesturing to come to his office. Shaun stepped behind the counter and walked in towards his office. "So, what's your name? ", asked the manager, Shaun was well aware that this was an interview right off the bat. So without sitting he answered, "Shaun Frost sir ", manager noticed he didn't sit and smiled at him, "Take a seat, and tell me why do you want to join Mocha n' Choco? ", "Uh... isn't the cafe's name Choco n' Mocha? ". The manager looked satisfied, "Good, so you are serious about this job, yes it's name is Choco n' Mocha, I was testing you to see how serious you are about the job. ", Shaun laughed nervously thinking, _Damn! He's an idiot_

The manager asked a few questions about why he's joining and whether he wanted a part time or a fulltime job. After answering everything and stating that he's looking for a full-time job, the manager got up and said, "Well Shaun, welcome to Choco n' Mocha, my name is George Kelly. Your salary as mentioned in the ad shall be 50$ a day for 8 hours of work. That amounts up-to roughly 14,400$ a month. Now follow me, I'll introduce the staff. " Shaun got up and followed him, while thinking that he had got a good deal. "Well, this is Sallie and that's John. They both are students and John is a full-time worker. If you have any questions ask him. You may start from tomorrow or today if you like. " Saying this George left them, while Shaun introduced himself and got to know around the shop. "So, the shop is usually crowded from 11:30 am onwards, so while we still have time, tell us what you are good at", said John, while Sallie seemed to be keeping her distance from Shaun. Shaun ignoring Sallie's behavior, told John that he's good at making black coffee. John, wanting to test this, asked him to brew a cup. Shaun did so as he was told and after John tasted the coffee, his face lit up. "Dude! You really are good at this, most of our customers are usually businessmen and they like their coffee black, you could be really useful here", Shaun smiled and glanced at Sallie while raising an eyebrow, asking if she'd like a cup. She shook her head and went to cleaning tables. Shaun put on an apron and went ahead to crush the coffee beans.

After a while customers started filling in, and soon it became quite busy, but Shaun handled it well and before he knew it was already dark, around 7pm. Shaun's work got over around 7:30pm and as he was getting ready to leave, George called him to his office. "I heard you handled the job well, good. So since its official, how would you like your salary? Monthly or weekly? ", Shaun thought for a second and answered that he'd like it weekly. It amounted for about 350$ which was good enough for him. Just as he was about to leave, a grim looking man entered the cafe. He was clearly drunk, he walked up to the counter and leaned against it while sizing up Sallie. She became nervous, but without showing it asked, "What would you like sir? ", the man stood still for a minute and then answered, " Well I'd like you. When are you getting off work? ", Shaun was watching this but decided not to interfere. He simply glanced towards Sallie once, while he walked to the door. Just as Shaun was about to leave, the drunk man leaned forward and grabbed Sallie's hand, and when John went to help he poked his eyes and John stepped back in pain. Shaun sighed, and closed the door. He walked upto the man and said, "Let her go, you are clearly drunk, let me call you a cab", the man looked at Shaun with angry eyes and shouted, "MIND YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS ", Shaun rolled his eyes and looked at Sallie. "Do you want me to help or are you gonna keep ignoring me like you did from the beginning? ", Sallie while struggling to free herself said, "Sorry ok! Now help me already ". The man got enraged by this, he let Sallie go and faced Shaun, "You piece of shit, how dare you talk to my present!? ", Shaun looked at him confused, "Uh... present? ". "Yes! She's my present, who I'm gonna enjoy slowly at my place". Shaun laughed loudly, and then looked at the man with his head tilted slightly along with a smile and said, "Well then, guess I have to steal your 'present' huh", while cracking his knuckles.
