Issue #8

Jack started waking up several hours later in the same room he woke up in that same morning. He could hear the voice of Emma very close to him.

"No, Christian. Tell Father, 'I understand that there is an important meeting today. I am only pushing it back by an hour.'"

"I just took in this new pupil that is already very troublesome. He thinks he is invincible and can do whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences."

"He's 15. Why?"

"What do you mean he sounds just like me at that age?"

"Be grateful that you are my favorite sibling, Christian. I would have fried your brain if you were either of my sisters."

"Hmm. Don't worry, you don't have to put off your visit. He has only been with me a day so I want him to get used to me before I even introduce him to anyone but you are the exception."

"I'll see you next week."

Jack opened his eyes and saw Emma sitting on a chair next to his bed. The woman was wearing a professional women's suit that was pure white like the rest of her clothes. She had a laptop in her lap and was typing away while she spoke through a pair of earphones.

Jack looked at the arm that he had experimented with earlier and saw that there was nothing more than a stump wrapped in bandages. Seeing this, he could not help but let out a groan.

When Emma heard him, she set down her laptop before standing up and walking over to Jack with a stern expression on her face.

"What were you thinking? You've had your powers for barely a week and don't know the limits of them! That was why we said we would begin training tomorrow! So you would be in peak condition to learn about your capabilities!" Emma kept reprimanding Jack but she got no response from him which caused her to be worried

"What? Did the accident leave you with a concussion too? Let me call a doctor..."

"No. It's not that," Jack hurried to explain. "I've just never had a parent or guardian worry about me like that. Feels nice but also a bit weird."

Emma shot Jack a dirty look before moving away from him. Her frustrated and worried look was soon replaced by the ice queen persona he had seen her with at the foster home and around Lilith.

"Hmph. You are my student and successor. Of course, I would be worried about you. You are lucky you got so injured this time. The next time you do something so stupid, I will definitely punish you myself."

Jack heard these words and nodded seriously but his opinion of the woman had changed once again. She was still an 'untouchable and rich queen' in his heart but he added on 'with a soft side for those she is close with.'

The pair had not even known each other for a day yet Jack could tell she already considered him one of her people. He had been in several foster homes and had seen all types of personalities.

Although he was no genius, he could at least see through people's intentions and personalities. One had to learn this in order to learn how to behave with certain directors.

'Hmm. I guess that I can trust her for now. At least until she gives me a reason not to.'

Jack began to sit up and let the blankets fall off his body. He realized that he was only in his underwear. Although embarrassed, Jack tried to act like it didn't both him when Emma was looking at him from the side.

"What happened to the clothes I was wearing?"

"They were covered in blood and bone and other bodily fluids contained in one's arm. The nurses at the hospital took them off of you as they changed you into a hospital gown. After that... well Lilith is still out getting your blue wardrobe.

Don't worry. I don't mind seeing the body of a 'child'," Emma said dismissively

Jack felt especially attacked when he heard the word child but did not make any comments. He just responded with an 'eh' before covering his body back up with the blankets as he waited for Lilith to return with his new clothes.

Knowing that Jack was now out of danger, Emma said a few more words of warning about using his power without her permission before leaving to handle the work she needed to do. She needed to handle affairs for the school, her company, and the Hellfire Club.

Emma was not only the headmistress for the academy but also the CEO of Frost Enterprises that she had inherited from her father. Although she inherited the company, she had brought to heights greater than her father ever did.

The company went from a multi-million dollar company that specialized in transportation to a multi-billion dollar company that specialized in transportation and electronics. Emma had created the entire electronics division herself and was so proficient in it that she was the technical specialist for the Hellfire Club.

She had fought her entire life to get to where she was and was planning to keep fighting into the future until she achieved her goals. This was all that Jack had to inherit from Emma.

Not just becoming an amazing and powerful mutant. Not just becoming the new headmaster of the school and successor to her ideals. Emma wanted someone she could entrust everything she had built up. And everything she wanted to achieve in the future.

Xavier had all of his students that carried his ideals. Magneto had his Acolytes. Emma was betting it all on Jack. That day, he did not know it. But he would soon come to understand the burden he would carry. And he would find out if was up for the task.
