Chapter 1: The day of a Beginning and a End

The day was like any other. Colin, the judiciary of a small country, had just sentenced a Criminal Gang Leader to a death sentence. The people in the courtroom were shocked. The leader had only ever stolen goods from small businesses; he didn't deserve this harsh of a punishment, the people thought. The leader's subordinates were devastated by the news. They were sure that, that day was the last time Colin would ever pass a judgment.

Colin was a man who was considered the harshest judge of the century as he would punish criminals brutally for petty crimes. Sometimes people even thought that he had lost his mind when announcing the punishment for the crimes. Little did anybody know, he always conducted a full background research of the guilty. He was the most fair Judge the country had seen. In actuality, due to his work, the criminal percentage of the country dropped by 80% since he became the judge. He was a very kind and helpful man outside of work. He sometimes talked to his colleagues about how difficult it was for him to pass those harsh judgments he passed.

The criminal group, as decided, lured Colin into an alley and stabbed him till they were sure that he had died. There lay the body of the most fair judge in the history of the country.

Colin didn't go to either Heaven or Hell, but the realm of the almighty gods. He opened his eyes and heard a voice," Oh my son, you have sadly passed away." The voice was so kind, he thought. A more masculine voice spoke," You are now, not the judge of a mere country but the judge of the great heaven and hell." Colin could not believe what he was hearing. "What!! I am the what?" he said to the man with a voice of confusion and anger. He took a great glance towards the man. Upon seeing him, he instantly fell to his knees. The man in front of him was the great Indian deity, Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva said," Raise your head. I understand that you were surprised to see me." " I am sorry my lord, how did I raise my voice in front of you, my Lord." Colin said with a voice full of guilt. Another voice spoke, "Didn't you hear him? Raise your head." This time instead of opening his mouth, he first looked toward the voice who commanded him.

Again he was shocked. In front of him stood the almighty Jesus. The voice from the start spoke," Could you both remain silent for once? You are confusing him more than explaining what is going on with him." The voice this time was the great Greek goddess, Athena. Colin asked," My lords, could you explain how is there a Greek goddess, a Hindu god, and the Son of the Christian god in the same room?" Lady Athena replied," Oh my child, in the human realm, everybody fights about which god and goddess are real or not and who should you preach. But in reality in the God realm, we all gods and goddesses remain in harmony." Lord Shiva and Lord Jesus agreed with Lady Athena.

Everybody noticed that Colin was still confused about something. Lord Jesus said, "Oh my child, you look like you still have some questions. What are they? " Colin replied," Hey my lord, I only have a single question left, Why am I summoned to the realm of gods? This is the only thing bothering me." 

Another figure appeared in the room and upon seeing Colin she said, "Oh isn't he the mortal I suggested to become the Gatekeeper of Heaven and Hell?" Colin, in the most polite manner possible, asked, "Hey my lady, You have my deepest apologies but I can't figure out how you are. Can you please bless me by telling me your name?" The lady said, "Oh my child, I completely don't mind that you don't know my name. I am the Greek goddess Themis, the goddess of justice, wisdom, and divine law." Colin again said, "Oh my lady Themis, I am blessed to know your name." 

Colin was left in his thoughts and asked Lady Themis, "Wait, my lady, you upon coming in the room said that I was the mortal who you chose to be the gatekeeper of heaven and hell." Lady Themis replied," Yes, you are correct." Colin asked," Why was I chosen as the gatekeeper? There have been 117 billion people in the history of the world. Why was I chosen?" Colin was clearly sad by the news. Lady Themis tried to comfort him and said, " Well as you now know I am the goddess of Justice and Divine Law, so I punish beings such as devils and titans and it is problematic for everyone that we have to take a trial and decide who goes in heaven and hell. This is where you come in. You were the fairest Judge of your country. So you are a person who is worthy of being my assistant." 

Assistance?

He was done with all judiciary and stuff, and now he was asked to people judge for eternity? 

Colin gathered all his courage and spoke," My lady, deep apologies but can I refuse this wonderful offer you have presented with me?" Everyone stared at him without a single expression. Lady Themis broke the silence," Why? You know right that defying a god would send you straight to hell?" Colin said, " I know that defying, or should we call it refusing your order or offer would send me directly to hell, but I was done with all this judiciary and stuff. Do you know that I was the happiest person when those bandits were stabbing me? Can't I have an opinion?" Real emotions could be felt from Colin's voice " I will gladly go to hell if it means that I don't have to send people there. You know what, You can send everybody heaven and I will, for the rest of eternity endure their pain. I believe that mental pain is worse than physical pain."

Lady Themis and everybody laughed, "Well looks like we were successful in testing you?" Colin got very confused and asked, " What do you mean?" Lord Shiva said," Well this was a trial for the gatekeeper, but you you were the only one who passed. Everyone accepted being the gatekeeper, but you were the only one who dared to refuse. Apart from that you were ready to go to hell if it meant that others didn't have to suffer. Not only are you fairest but also the purest." Colin asked, " So that means that I will become the gatekeeper?" Lady Athena replied, " Yes but don't worry, If you are ever feeling depressed, You can always ask Lady Themis to judge for until you feel fine." Lord Jesus added," And we all are here to comfort you. And remember, as a human, you only saw the worst as a judge but as the immortal demi-god, you will also see the best of the world."

 Colin was happy to hear this but he asked," So I am a demi-god?" Lord Shiva replied," Yes all assistants are demi-gods but they can become a god if they prove that they are worthy." He asked, " So how does a demi-god become a god?" Lady Themis replied," You have to become the best of whatever you are. So you would have to become the best mortal judge to become the god of human judgment." Colin asked with excitement, " When do I start?" Lady Themis said, with a smile, " You can start tomorrow." 

That was the day Colin decided that he would become the god of human law
