Chapter 75

 Priscilla's POV

"I don't even know how to express my gratitude for what you've done for me... You've given me everything and I don't know how to repay you," Max said, tears glistening in his eyes. I could tell he was overjoyed to learn that he was the true father of the twins.

I kissed his hand which was gently caressing my cheek. "You don't need to thank me for anything, Max. I only carried your babies in my womb, but I'm not their real mother... You should thank Nelly, not me," I said, feeling a sudden bitterness rise within me.

"Priscilla," Max called my name, but I pulled away. I don't know why, but I felt an overwhelming urge to burst into tears. Was it because I couldn't give birth to my own children, or was it because Max was so happy to be a father, something I could never experience? Mark's hurtful words echoed in my mind, like a terrible song I couldn't escape.
