Chapter 51

Max's POV

Oh no! What's wrong with Priscilla? I could tell she was lying from the way she rubbed her nose and avoided eye contact. Why would she help Nelly, who had betrayed me before? I was sure Nelly was going to betray her eventually, but she dared to assist her. What is going on?

"Max! Are you accusing me again without any evidence? Do you remember what happened yesterday? You falsely accused me then, and now you're doing it again," Priscilla shouted. Of course, she would use my past mistakes against me. I knew she was the one who helped Nelly. I just knew it.

I could feel my nostrils flaring. "Priscilla, we both know I'm not accusing you. You know what I'm talking about. I'm going to find Nelly, and I'm going to teach her a lesson," I said, trying to control my tone. I didn't want Priscilla to faint again.

"Max, don't accuse me of something you have no proof of. Please let me have my breakfast in peace," Priscilla snapped. She started eating her food, but I couldn't control my anger. I slammed my hand on the table, causing both Priscilla and Liz to flinch in fear.

"You know what? I just lost my appetite. I can't eat. I'm leaving," Priscilla said as she rose from her chair and made her way to the sitting room where she had left her bag.

"Max, have you lost it? Are you becoming a sadist now?" Liz said angrily. "Why do you care about someone who has cheated on you repeatedly and doesn't even regret it? Look, now Priscilla left without having breakfast while being pregnant. If you don't pull yourself together, I will leave this house," Liz yelled as she rose from her chair and made her way out.

Wow, what a great way to start my day!!! Priscilla left the house without eating. I need to convince her to have something.

I pulled out my phone from my pocket, turned it on, dialed Nicolas' number, and placed it on my ear. After a few minutes, Nicolas answered the call.

"Nic, send our men to search for Nelly. I want them to bring her back to me before sunset," I said before hanging up. I placed my phone back in my pocket, got up from my chair, and headed out. I could feel the heat flushing through my body, but I tried hard to control my anger. I had to make sure that Priscilla ate at any cost.

As I stepped outside, I saw only the guards.

"Did Priscilla leave by car?" I asked, trying to calm myself.

"She refused to use the car and left on foot. Ms Liz left with her car," the guard replied.

"Okay, bring a car. I want to follow Priscilla right now," I ordered. The guard rushed to the garage, and I waited for him to return.

Hi

Priscilla's POV

I was feeling really hungry, my stomach was growling and it was killing me. It was a foolish mistake to leave the house without eating anything due to Max's behavior. I had no more money to buy myself food. I hadn't eaten since yesterday and now I couldn't bear it any longer.

I couldn't believe it was all because of Max. Why did he have to slam the table like that? I get scared when someone behaves like that, and I can't stand that kind of person. But he went ahead and scared me. Now, I'm walking to work on foot, and hunger is getting the best of me. I can be a fool sometimes, the biggest fool. I don't even remember the way to work because my mind can't function properly when I'm hungry. All I need is something to eat.

Feeling hopeless, I walked to a bench on the side of the highway and sat down. I watched as cars passed on the road, wondering why I never think before doing anything. I should have considered all the consequences before making any decisions. I rested my head on my knees, covering my face. Being pregnant was the worst feeling ever, as I knew I wouldn't be able to have a baby of my own. I couldn't bear the hunger and all the stress that came with it.

Suddenly, I heard a voice behind me, "Do you work here, Ms. Priscilla?" My body froze in place. I raised my head and met his gaze. My chest tightened when I saw his stern expression.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to hide my embarrassment. Why did he have to follow me here? He was becoming a pain in my neck. Not only did my heart race every time he was near me, but I also became scared by the stern expression on his face. I couldn't even avoid him. How could I even fall in love with such a man? I had a poor choice in love, and that's why I wouldn't even think about it.

"Come, let's go," Max said, I wish I could run away from here but of course, I was too hungry to even try to run. I had no choice but to deal with this man in front of me.

"I'm not going anywhere with you!" I said, feeling my chin dip down in embarrassment. Can anyone save me from this situation? Of course, he knew I was starving.

"You are being stubborn again, aren't you? Do you want me to carry you again?" Max asked. I kept quiet, pretending not to hear him, but he knew I needed him to carry me since I was too hungry to walk.

Max approached me and scooped me in his arms. I shamelessly wrapped my arms around him.

"You helped Nelly escape, right?" Max asked as we made our way to the car. I didn't have any energy to talk and decided to keep my mouth shut. He already knew that I had helped Nelly, so there was no point in repeating myself.

We reached the car, and the driver opened the door. Max placed me in the back seat and put my bag on my lap. He then walked to the other side of the car and got in. We both kept quiet, which was good because I was on the verge of lashing out at him at that moment.

After a few minutes of driving, we arrived at the restaurant. The driver opened the door for me but I refused to get out. Max, who was responsible for making me hungry and tired, had no choice but to carry me inside. He walked over to my side of the car and frowned when he saw that I was still sitting inside.

"Aren't you getting out?" he asked, annoyed.

But I refused to budge. This man needed to learn a lesson. He couldn't get away with everything.

"It seems like you're enjoying me carrying you in my arms," Max said sarcastically. I remained quiet, knowing that his words wouldn't work.

With an irritated sigh, he walked back to the car, scooped me up in his arms, and carried me inside the restaurant. The driver followed us, holding my bag and trying to hide his laughter. Max should have just laughed along to add to my irritation.

As soon as we entered the restaurant, all eyes were on us. A man in black greeted us at the entrance.

"Good morning, Mr. Manh. Your reservation is ready. Please follow me!" he said.

Max followed him, and I kept quiet. When we reached our table, the driver pulled out a chair for me and Max helped me sit down. He then sat opposite me, but I still refused to speak. I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone.

"What would you like to eat?" Max asked, looking at me without saying anything. I wasn't really in the mood to say anything. I don't like talking when I'm hungry, especially not to someone who has made me angry.

"Priscilla, stop throwing tantrums right now. I really don't have the energy or time to deal with them. Please order something you want to eat or else I'm leaving," Max said, with a controlled tone. Of course, he was irritated, but I wasn't going to make it any easier for him.

Max called for a waiter and placed an order, and we waited for our food in silence. I didn't say anything, nor did I even want to say anything. I was already running late for work, and it was all thanks to Max and his silly anger.

After a few minutes of tense silence, the waiter finally came back with our food. Max had ordered a different dish, and the table was soon filled with plates and bowls.

"You can start eating now, you must be hungry," Max said. I looked away from him, feeling overheated by the whole situation. I was hungry, but I was too lazy to raise a hand or do anything.

Max sighed heavily. "Seriously! You aren't going to eat by yourself now?" he asked. I remained quiet. "Fine, I will feed you," he added. He looked at me and shook his head before grabbing a plate and starting to dish food for me. When he was done, he took a fork and knife, cut a piece of pancake, and raised the fork to my mouth. I opened my mouth and took a bite. Max kept on feeding me until I felt full and my tummy was no longer grumbling.

"We should go now!" Max said, realizing I was full.

I raised my eyebrows. "Aren't you going to eat?" I asked, remembering he hadn't eaten anything yet.

"Now that you have eaten and your stomach is full, you suddenly remember that I didn't eat. I really thought you became mute over time!" Max said sarcastically, and I rolled my eyes.

"You are the reason I left home on an empty stomach. Why did you have to slam the table like that? I get scared when humans reveal the animal within them. I really get scared. That's why I'm still angry with you," I told him honestly. I couldn't stand his angry side because it reminded me of the monster I once called my father.

Max looked at me and took my hands into his. For some reason, I felt a shiver that brought pleasure running down my spine. "Priscilla, you know I don't mean to do all those things. Trust me, I will never hurt you knowing. I'm going through a lot, and I can't pull myself together. I lose my temper even when I don't have to," Max explained. I raised my head, and our eyes met. He looked really guilty.

"I understand what you are going through, but please don't do things like that. I really don't like it at all. You bring back the memories that I had buried in the depths of my heart," I said.

"I'm sorry. I won't do it again, I promise. Are we cool now?" Max asked with a smile. I smiled back at him.

"Yeah, we are," I replied, trying to ignore the funny feeling in my belly.

"So now tell me, did you help Nelly escape?" Max asked. I glared at him. Is he really asking this question again?

"You are accusing me again right after you apologized! I thought you meant what you just said, but it's clear that all you think about is Nelly and nothing else. I'm going," I said, rising off the chair. Grabbing my bag, I started making my way out of the restaurant, leaving the angry Max behind. I don't know why I'm having this burning sensation in my chest every time he asks about Nelly. I just hope it's not what I think it is.
