Chapter 33

Max's POV

"She is carrying twins," Mark said as he ran the handheld probe over Priscilla's belly. I clapped my hands on my chest, feeling a warmth radiating from within. I couldn't believe I was going to be a father.

Priscilla gasped. "How will I give birth to two children? What if I die?" Priscilla asked, blinking her big eyes.

"Don't worry about that. If you don't want to have a normal birth, we can do a C-section. It's all up to you," Max said.

"Oh," Priscilla mumbled, her eyes fixed on the ultrasound machine, the sound waves echoing throughout the room.

"You did the right thing by filing for divorce against Nelly. That woman is so rotten. Did you know she had three abortions since you got married? I'm sure she would have aborted this one too," Mark said. My chin trembled, and my heartbeat seemed to momentarily stop. I couldn't believe Nelly would do something so cruel to me, knowing how much I wanted a baby.

"Mark, I thought you were my friend! Why didn't you tell me all of this sooner?" I asked, trying to keep my emotions in check. I couldn't bear the thought of Nelly continuing to hurt me.

"How was I supposed to tell you when she threatened me? If I had, I would have lost my license for revealing a client's confidential information," Mark said calmly, focused on what he was doing.

A painful tightness constricted my throat, making it hard to swallow. I should have listened to Nicolas when he warned me about Nelly. I shouldn't have listened to my Auntie when she arranged this marriage. Now I'm heartbroken and all alone.

"Everything is fine. She just needs to keep taking her medicine and eat enough. I'll say it again, she shouldn't stress or overthink. Please take care of her, or she might lose the babies," Mark said as he wiped the gel off Priscilla's belly with a tissue.

"I will take care of her," I mumbled. Priscilla sat up on the small bed and began putting on her shoes.

"Doctor, is it possible for me to work?" Priscilla asked. I glared at her, but she ignored me completely.

"Unfortunately, you can't. At this stage of pregnancy, anything might happen, so working is out of the question. You can't," Max said, and I let out a sigh of relief.

Priscilla frowned. "Max told you to say this, right?" Priscilla asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

Mark gasped. "What? No, he didn't. I'm saying this because I'm a doctor," he tried to explain, but Priscilla continued to glare at him.

"What can you say? He's your friend, isn't he?" Priscilla mumbled, her annoyance palpable. "Let's go, Max," she added, walking past me.

"See you soon, Mark," I mumbled as both Priscilla and I walked out of the ward, heading towards the exit.

"Everyone is watching us," Priscilla muttered. I could see people in the hospital looking at us and murmuring to themselves, but I didn't care about them.

"Who cares," I mumbled back as we departed the hospital and headed to the car.

"Do you need anything before we go home?" I asked, opening the car door for Priscilla.

"I'm thirsty, so water would do. '' Priscilla said as she got into the car.

"Okay, I'll go and buy some water for you. Stay here," I said, closing and locking all the doors before walking away. I was sure I would find a shop nearby.

Priscilla's POV

I sat quietly in the car, waiting for Max to come back. I just hoped he was okay after what he had heard about Nelly. I knew he must be hurt. I didn't know why I was so worried about him these days, maybe it was because I was carrying his child.

A knock on the car window snapped me out of my daze. I rolled down the window and my eyes widened when I saw a scary-looking man standing there, pointing a gun at me.

"Get out quietly and follow me," he said, and I examined him. I immediately knew that he was a hitman

"Are you kidnapping me?" I asked, not daring to unlock the car door. Luckily, I had locked it earlier.

"I said get out, or else I'm going to shoot you!" the man declared, but I scoffed.

"Shoot me if you want to. Don't scare me with an empty threat. We both know you can't shoot me in such a crowded place," I said nonchalantly, though my heart was racing against my chest. I knew Nelly would send people to kill me, but I didn't expect it to happen so soon.

"Are you trying to act smart with me?" he asked coldly.

I could feel his stinking breath blowing my face, and my stomach churned as I moved away. "Your mouth is stinking," I said. "And stop threatening me with a dead snake. Shoot me if you want to shoot me, if you can't leave from here before I scream. There are a lot of people here and they would come running to me if I screamed and you would end up rotting in jail. I'm sure you don't want that. "I said, I wonder why Max was taking so long.

" How dare you insult me, get out of the car, or else I'm going to shoot you right now. "The man said angrily.

" Help, help. This man wants to shoot me !!! "I yelled loudly. People started making their way to the car.

" You are going to pay dearly for this. "The man said and ran away. I let out a sigh of relief.

" What happened, my dear? Are you? "A security guard asked.

" I'm fine, he ran away. "I said with a smile. He nodded and walked away.

After a few minutes, Max finally came back holding a bottle of water, he unlocked the car with car keys before getting inside the car.

" You are sweating. What happened? "Maxma asked, handing me the bottle of water, I took it, opened the lid, and gulped the water down my throat.

" Are you Okay? "Max asked again.

" I told you that Nelly will do everything In her power to get rid of Me. She had sent a man here to kidnap me. Had I been foolish and scared of guns, I would have gone with him. But I refused to come out of the car, he ran away but he is not going to stop until I'm dead. "I told him, I knew that this was not over, that man will do everything to make sure that I'm dead…

" What the fuck!! Did he do anything to you? Are you? "Max asked, panicking.

" I grew up in the streets, which means I have a sharp mind. I'm not foolish to let anyone harm me in such a crowded place. I scared him away but I won't always be so lucky. "I said, I closed the bottle of water with its lid.

" I'm sorry Priscilla, I shouldn't have taken that long. "Max said," Are you sure you are fine? "

" Let's just go home. "I said, I'm too exhausted to think about all this nonsense. After calling his informing someone on his phone to investigate the matter, Max started the car and drove off.

After 20 minutes of driving, we ultimately arrived home. I got out of the car and sauntered inside the house. Reaching inside, I found Nelly and Auntie in the dining room. Their faces paled when they saw me entering the house.

"Shocked!!" I spoke out as I walked inside the sitting room, a smirk on my lips. "Next time when you want to kill me, send a professional killer to kill me, not that fool you have sent," I said scowling at the two of them. I made my way upstairs. Leaving them flabbergasted.
