Chapter 4
"What are you doing here?" A harsh voice next to her demanded.
She jumped at the voice, dropping the papers she had just picked up. Frustrated, she looked at the owner of the voice to find someone unexpected. The boy in front of her wasn't completely human it seemed. His sclerae were black and had 3 blue stripes on each of his cheeks. The last thing that she noticed was two small horns on his forehead, hidden by his black fluffy hair.
. . . aww he has little horns
Her childish thoughts were broken away when he demanded an answer.
"Are you done staring? What are you doing here?" He roared.
"Ah, sorry for staring. There were a few papers I dropped in here. . . Your horns are really cool, and your eyes are pretty, along with your stripes." She said, picking up her papers.
He stood there for a few seconds, trying to understand her words.
"Ah sorry, I'm Melony, what's your name?" She smiled at him.
He stood there for a few more moments.
"I am code 108," He finally said.
"No, your name, not your code. You're a pilot right? I know they have codes, but you all have names right? Or are you not allowed to tell me that?"
". . . I . . . I don't have a name. Am I supposed to?"
She was taken aback slightly.
"Yeah, of course, everyone has a name. My name is Melony Levitan, my family and the few friends I have call me Mel. Are you sure you don't have a name?"
"Yes, I've never been called anything else."
"Alright, I'll give you a name, hmm give me some ideas."
"Ideas?"
"Yeah, like what's your favorite color, hobbies you have, things you like."
"I don't know, I'm just a pilot."
"Alright then, how about . . . Meruem! Meruem's a great name! It means 'Light that illuminates all' like it?" She gleamed with delight.
He looked down for a few moments.
"Meruem. . . I like it. I . . . I like that name. Can that be my name? Meruem, I am Meruem." Meruem repeated his name a few more times, saying it again and again in different ways.
Melony giggled at him. She found it cute how he liked his name.
"You- Melony, you said you liked my eyes?"
"Yeah, and your stripes, and your horns, they're really cute!"
"Cute? No one's told me that."
"Well they should, and you shouldn't listen to people who say bad things about you."
"Ok, where are you taking those papers?"
"Ah, I'm supposed to take them down the hall. Hopefully they won't chew me out for being late." She sighed.
"I'll walk with you."
She smiled and they walked together, her superiors were about to chew her out, but it seemed like with Meruem there, they held their tongues.
Melony had about 30 minutes for a break until she would have to get back to work, so she chose to continue to talk with Meruem.
