New Life: Second Chance, COMPLETED (magical realism)> This is the story of Kyle Smith, murdered (leaving behind two kids) and reincarnated to the past. Slice of Life story, action/romance, Labeled magical realism due to the reincarnation concept. 2. Courage to Love, COMPLETED (contemporary romance) > A spin-off of NL:SC. A story of Lianne Yang, the daughter of Kyle from his first life. This 3rd novel, is a sequel to NL:SC. Each book is stand-alone, but I do recommend you reading NL:SC first. Mainly because it makes the experience richer. However, even if you don't, you won't be lost in what happens. WARNING: Reading this novel first, before NL:SC means you will read lots of spoilers for NL:SC, especially on the pairings.

Human

That night, two figures were leaning against a car and waiting by the gate of the house in a rather exclusive community. Normally, such a sight would have triggered alarm bells (figuratively, of course) and security that was patrolling the area would have been on high alert.

However, the car that the two figures were leaning on, was THE Bugatti La Voiture Noire. It was *only* the most expensive car in the world, with a price tag of $18.7 million. The buyer was unknown and unnamed, but the car was famous.

Anyone, who was anyone, would know the car.

It was legendary and mysterious; plus, it had the shape and look which was similar to the Batmobile. Only fancier. Sleekier.

And real.

And the car was right there.

Curious as people were, they had no desire to find out who the owner was as the word on the street and amongst the lite, was that the buyer was extremely private - and ruthless.

No one wanted to test that.

One did, by digging and hiring hackers to try and find out the identity of the buyer. Let's just say that his fate had not been pretty. Last they heard, the guy that had once been on top of the food chain, was barely making ends meet now.

So despite the curiosity, the two people were left alone.

"Alex will go crazy when he sees this car," Sayuri said, nearly purring as she ran her hands on it.

"It's mine," Kyle replied quickly, almost growling it out.

Sayuri had to laugh out loud at that.

"It's interesting that you're really low key in everything, even cars," Sayuri said, "Except this one. You even fought against Ali and won this from him."

Kyle was the type that enjoyed luxury but he didn't like showing off or using branded items. Basically, all his clothes, accessories, and cars did not appear to be too outrageous though, in reality, they were all highly expensive.

For example, the clothes were custom-made and of the best material, while his formal clothes were designed by the top designers exclusively. They were all one-of-a-kind and not publicized, hence, no one really realised just how expensive they were.

Even his cars were the 'normal' type of cars that the upper class would buy, so it didn't appear like he was any different. However, the cars were all modified and upgraded, though that could not be seen.

Even their private jet was bought due to the memories on it, rather than him wanting to show off.

But this. This car was different.

The moment Kyle knew about it, it was like he was obsessed with it.

It was his 'baby', so to speak, and was generally kept in the underground garage like some sort of trophy.

Kyle - or rather, Ice, as he was right now - pursed his lips. His eyes lit up upon seeing his son appear in view.

"Well, time to see if the pup can fight with the little one," he said and added, "For the record, I still think it's too early."

Sayuri (aka Fyre), poked him in the ribs, "The day is not yet over, luv. Total obedience and that includes refuting verbally."

A scoff was heard, followed by a laugh.

Alex stood there, staring at his parents who seemed oblivious to his arrival.

No matter how many times he sees it, and no matter how often he went out with his father as Cinder, it never ceases to amaze him how different his parents were once they became Fyre and Ice.

It was like they were completely different people.

As Sayuri and Kyle, they were firm and strict, and occasionally, he would see his parents being rather ruthless in their decisions. However, there was this layer of sophistication or rather, one did not see it as being 'cold-blooded' ruthless.

As Fyre and Ice, however, it seemed as if that layer was completely gone and they were unbridled in their ruthlessness and ferocity.

Truth be told, he had been surprised at first when he witnessed how his father fought but he could accept it. It was as if his father had that little beast simmering within him and it just came to light as Ice.

Like him, though he loathed to admit it - he knew that simmering beast was there, always fighting to come out.

But his mother.

Now *that* had been such a shock to him that he never quite got over it.

Not only was she just as ruthless, but she was also even more blatant about showing affection as Fyre.

It was damn weird!!

Eventually, he got used to it.

But it was still damn weird!

Which was why he never batted an eyelid when his mother was affectionate with his father back home. It was just the tip of the iceberg on how she showed it when she's Fyre.

He accepted it, but it still was weird. Though he didn't hate his father anymore, he still didn't see that his father was a good match with his mother.

His mother was so perfect and could have had anyone and yet, she chose *him*. And the love between them never seemed to wane at all. They were always so openly affectionate.

Alex sighed as he continued to observe his parents.

Okay, fine, he had to admit.

Visually, his parents made such a perfect pair.

Be it as Sayuri and Kyle, or as Fyre and Ice.

Right now, the cold Ice was looking rather indifferent and impassive, his entire being seemingly emitting this rather dangerous vibe. He was like a blade, with his ice-blue eyes able to pierce you with a glance.

His powerful physique could clearly be seen by the ridiculously form-fitting black sleeveless outfit he wore, showcasing the lean muscles under the cloth and the slightly muscular arms.

Fyre, on the other hand, was the exact opposite.

Even though he was seven, and that was his mother, even he could tell that she seemed to be the type of person that one could not touch. Not one who is demure and innocent but yet, it wasn't exactly that she was openly dangerous.

One got the impression that one would get burned if you provoked her too much.

No, scratch that.

Fyre was known to have a short temper, hence 'Fyre'. Ice's temper was rather cold and brutal while Fyre's temper was explosive.

Alex was too young to truly understand what 'sexy' and 'sultry' was, but he could instinctively feel that his mother was completely different from normal. He didn't know what it was, but he just knew she was.

Even the way she talked was different.

His father, too.

While Alex was just staring at his parents, thinking that this was going to be a 'family' outing, Max was beside him and staring at the two people as well.

Max was on a leash next to him and he tilted his head as he looked at the people in front of him.

They looked different from his memory, but they didn't smell different.

They had some of the smell of his Alpha, so they aren't strangers but he didn't know who they were. He would need to get closer and sniff them, though he already could have an inkling of it.

He wanted to go, but his Alpha had not moved.

So he took a step forward, then back, and sat down. Then did it again when curiosity got to him.

This stalemate was finally broken when the man in front said while pointing to the van on their right, "Go change. Max, too."

Alex was flabbergasted.

"Max, too?" he asked, his eyes wide open.

"One can never be too complacent," Ice replied coldly, "If anyone recognises him, and links him with you, then the rest will follow. This is basic."

Alex pressed his lips together, not liking the reprimand though he understood and agreed with the statement.

Without a word, he turned on his heels and headed to the van.

Seeing Alex basically stomp off, Ice snorted and Fyre sighed a bit, leaning on his arm.

"You know, if you talked to him in a nicer manner, he wouldn't be so argumentative," Fyre told him.

"I know," Ice replied, "But where's the fun in that?"

Leaning towards her, he then asked, "And since when does Ice talk nicely?"

"Correction," Fyre said, "Since when does Ice actually talk? Well, not long sentences anyway unless he's killing or scolding people."

Ice shrugged, "True. So all the more I shouldn't be any different with how I talk to Cinder."

"But you could be nicer when at home," Fyre pointed out.

Ice pursed his lips, "I will, if he is."

Fyre couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips.

In times like this, she can actually forget the fact that he was a mother in his past life. Such pettiness didn't seem to commensurate with his personality as the 'loving, nurturing' woman from before.

His son truly did bring out the worst in him.

But instead of feeling angry or resentful towards him for it, she loved him even more for it.

Because it made him human.

Ah, still some background revelations on their inner thoughts. Especially on how Alex perceives his parents. Next week will be the 'family bonding' outing.

heh
