Chapter 7

Lucas's POV

I was surprised when Lani left my office. Caleb was right, she is going to be more of a challenge than I'm used to. But that's ok, should make it all worth it in the end. I did as she suggested and finished some of my Alpha duties, which consisted mostly of paperwork in my office. Once I was done with all of that, I left the office to get ready in my room.

After a quick shower and dressing in a nice button-down shirt and jeans, I begin heading towards Lani's room. On my way I run into my Delta, Ethan.

"Looking sharp Alpha." He says.

I roll my eyes, "Thanks, I have plans."

"With Lani?" he smirks knowing the answer already.

I grind my teeth. "Yes, with Lani."

"Is this girl getting to you?"

I looked at him in disbelief, "Of course not. I'm only taking her out to try and complete the bet. After that I won't look at her again."

"Sure… well I'll let you go then. Have fun alpha." He laughs as he walks past me.

I let out a frustrated sigh, why does he think I'm starting to care about this girl? She's just another girl. I calm myself down as I continue walking to Lani's room.

I knock on her door and wait for her to answer, it only takes a few seconds before she's opening the door. I let out a gasp, she looks beautiful. She's wearing a simple dress and flats; light make up and her hair is down. How can someone be beautiful without trying?

"You look handsome." Her voice breaks my spell.

"Thank you, you look very beautiful."

I see a blush rising on her cheeks. "Thank you."

"Shall we?" I extend my hand, and she takes it.

We leave and I drive us to a restaurant near the pack house. Once we get there, I open her door for her and hold hands walking in. we are seated after walking in without needing to say a word since everyone knows who I am.

"Must be nice." I look up from my menu and give Lani a confused look.

"What?"

"Being handed anything you want just because you're the Alpha."

I'm shocked for a moment, is that what she thinks? Why would she think that?

"What do you mean?"

She sighs, "Where I grew up, my alpha had everyone treat him like another pack member. So, for us to be able to walk in here and not have any wait, not even have to speak, it's unfair to all the other pack members that have been waiting. So, it must be nice to go any where in your pack and be treated as royalty."

I truly was shocked; this is how she's beginning to see me? Isn't this what all girls like though? To be treated better than every one else? To have more power and know they are better?

"This is how the Luna is treated by her pack though…" I leave that sentence hanging in the air, hopefully she will pick up on its meaning.

"And your Luna may like that, but who ever my mate ends up being, I myself would not want that though."

"Why?"

"When you hold more power and believe everyone is beneath you, there's a lot that you don't see. This is what I think my previous alpha was wise to do, being a member with high power, but knowing he was treated as an equal the pack had more respect for him. If there was a problem in the pack, we felt comfortable going and talking to him. We knew he'd listen and take care of it; we wouldn't be pushed away because we were not in his small group of friends."

Listening to Lani started to make me think about my own pack. Do I really neglect anyone that does not hold a high rank? I know the names of each pack mate, but other than that I only know facts about my friends. If I got to know my pack, would they really come to me with their problems? Isn't that what a Luna is supposed to be for? She'll be the one to take care of the pack, I'm the one that protects it.

Lani seems to have the correct mindset of a Luna, maybe I can get her to become my Luna; all I'll have to do is convince her.

"That makes a lot of sense. Now I want to know more about you."

She gives me a smile, before starting to tell me little pieces of information. And I share some things as well. While we are talking our food arrives. We talk in between bites. By the end of dinner, I'm even more sure that she'd be great as my Luna.

We get to the car, and I open her door, and she says a quite 'thank you'. On the ride back I rest my hand on her upper thigh, but I don't move it. I don't want to push her too far yet. I see her breathing change, but as I don't move my hand it evens out.

Walking into the pack house I hold her hand again. We walk all the way to her room, and I open the door bringing both of us inside.

"Thank you for coming with me tonight." I whisper in her ear, as I bring her into my arms.

"You're welcome." I run my fingers up and down her arms lightly to soothe her. "I'd like to get ready for bed. I'll see you tomorrow, Lucas."

I stop moving my hands, I don't want to wait to have her anymore. "I'll leave in a minute."

I lean in and gently kiss her, thankfully she begins to return the kiss after a few seconds. I take this as a good sign and begin walking us to her bed. I run my hand up her leg, but before I can get under her dress I'm pulled off of Lani.

I briefly see her brothers face before the door is shut. What the hell just happened!? I quickly go to my room and pace back and forth.

Did I push her to far? I know she told me her promise to her parents about waiting for her mate. I also know that her birthday is a week away. I guess I'll just have to wait until her birthday. But if we aren't mates, I need to capture her heart. I want her by my side, she'd be a good Luna to my pack, and I'd have so much fun with her in bed.

I couldn't sleep last night; I know I need to apologize and make things right with Lani. Once I hear other members getting up, I go down to Lani's door and knock. I only wait a little while before she opens the door.

I see her eyes are a little puffy, did she cry after I left? I hope I haven't done unrepairable damage.

"Lani, I just came to apologize to you. I was foolish last night and what I did was completely inappropriate. I hope we can still hang out, and I promise what happened last night will not happen again."

I'm quite as I keep eye contact with her, she searches my face for any deceit. But I'm being honest with her right now. I will not try to get into her bed again until she makes a move for it, the bet be damned.

"Ok, I won't hold this against you. But if it does happen again, I'll leave."

"I understand. I'll let you get ready for your day, and I'll see you around."

I go down to the dinning hall. And meet up with my friends.
