Chapter 6

Lucas walks over to our table and sits down between my brother and I.

"His name is Ezra Lewis, he's the Beta of the Crescent Pack." Lucas explains.

I see my brother nod his head before he gets up and leave; but I still seen the first tear fall. I feel helpless I don't know what to do to help him. For now, I'll just have to keep his mate away.

I turn to Lucas, "Can I talk to you alone?"

"Of course."

He stands and takes my hand to lead me away from my parents. We end up in his office. I take a quick look around, it's spacious with a mahogany desk in the center and a swivel chair behind it. 2 plush chairs facing the desk, and a matching couch in the corner with a table in front of it.

I turn to Lucas and look him in the eye, so he'll know how important this is.

"I need your help to keep Ezra away from my brother."

I watch his expression turned shocked for a moment before he replaces it with a look of something I can't identify.

"I'll do my best to make sure Beta Ezra stays away from my land, but once you both start school there's not much I'll be able to do to stop him."

I nod in understanding, "For now keeping him away will be enough. I hope Nohea will decide what he wants to do by then."

"I'm sure it will."

Lucas's eyes keep dropping down to my lips, I think he's going to kiss me again. But I know I need to be with my brother right now. As he starts to lean forward, I turn my head and he stops.

"Now isn't the time for us to be kissing, I need to check on my brother and you should get some of your Alpha duties taken care of."

Lucas takes a step back from me, "You're right, I'll let you go check on Nohea if you make me a promise."

"What is it?"

"Have dinner with me tonight, just the two of us."

I nod agreeing to dinner, it would be a good chance to get to know Lucas better. But for now, I need to support my brother. I turn and leave his office to go search for Nohea.

I try his room first, when I open the door, I see him sitting on his bed facing away from the door. By the slight shaking of his shoulders, I know he's still crying. I close the door and walk over to his bed before sitting next to him. We sit in silence for a few minutes.

"Why me Lani?" he whispers.

"I don't know, what I do know is you have time to figure out what you want to do."

"I know."

"You know I will support you no matter what you choose, leaving for time to think, giving him a chance, or even rejecting him." A sob escapes him hearing the last option.

"How can I reject him? I know he messed up and didn't give a good first impression, but we both know the power of mates. If you were in my position, would you be able to reject your mate?"

My breath catches in my throat, I didn't think of it that way. Nohea and I think very similar when it comes to mates. I think for a minute about what he asked.

"No, I wouldn't be able to reject them right away. I would want to know the reason why. Why didn't they wait for me? And after hearing them out, I'd leave for a little bit so I can think clearly. Rejecting your mate is not something to take lightly, but I wouldn't want to give them a chance right away either. It's something that needs serious thought, with out them trying to persuade you."

Nohea nods his head, "Where would you go?"

"Back home."

"Why home?"

I sigh, "We know we will always be welcomed home; Alpha Alakai would not turn us away. We would be able to stay as long as we need, and everyone would be biased if we told them the situation and asked for their opinion. The pack knows us and wouldn't hold back their opinion, they would also support whatever decision we make."

Nohea once again nods his head in understanding. Everything I said makes sense, and it is what I would do if I was in his situation. I try to lighten the mood by telling him my plans for the night.

"So, Alpha Lucas asked me to dinner tonight."

"Alone?" I nod, "I don't think that's a good idea."

I look at him confused, he didn't have a problem with me going on dates back home, why now?

"Why not?"

"You turn 17 next week, you'll be able to identify your mate. Don't you think you should wait until then?"

I understand where my brother is coming from. "I plan on getting to know him better. He is our new Alpha, and I won't let anything happen between us. We both promised to save ourselves for our mate."

"Exactly, so why don't you wait until next week and if he's your mate then do whatever your heart tells you."

I frown at my brother. "How about this, once we are home, I'll link you, and if anything starts to happen and I need your help I'll link you then too."

"Promise me that. I don't want him to take advantage of you, I need to know you are safe."

"I promise. Now I need to go get ready."

We stand and give each other a hug. "Don't worry Nohea, you'll figure out the right thing to do." I reassure him before leaving his room.

At least I got him to stop crying, Ezra has no idea how great of a mate he may have lost. I shake my head as I enter my room, now isn't the time to be thinking of my brother's problem.

I walk over to the closet and start looking at possible outfits for tonight, Lucas didn't tell me where we are going so, I'll dress in a formal/casual dress. After I have my outfit, I go to the bathroom. After a nice shower, I do some light make up and leave my hair down. I put on my clothes and shoes, as I'm finishing, I hear a knock on my door.
