The baron's face turned to ash as he looked back and forth between Claude and Camellia. He was no longer meeting Lia's eyes.

Claude took the hairpin Peirotte handed him and returned it to Lia. "If I didn't come to pick you up from the nunnery, I never would've known you came here."

"I had some time to spare, so…" Lia trailed off, flustered like she was caught red-handed even though she didn't do anything wrong.

Claude swept her hair behind her ear. "I need to talk to Baron Peirotte briefly. Why don't you go wait in the car?" He nodded slightly to Ivan, who stood at a distance.

"My lord."

"Don't worry. It's impossible to solicit for exams. I'm just going to confirm that nothing's wrong with the application."

Lia looked at him dubiously before heading out with Ivan. She knew it wasn't a situation where she could argue her way, especially after she had been humiliated. Her steps felt as heavy as her heart.
