Quite honestly, I’m not really much of a reader, but when I Initially stumbled upon this on Wattpad, I couldn’t stop reading. Fated Love has a fresh take on the BL Genre unlike those that I have read and watched before. I especially like how the main character, Aiden, has a secret past that he’s dealing with and then intermixed with the BL concept which adds more feelings and suspense to the story.
The author has mixed the generic BL story with the type of plot and approach usually used in Filipino Telenovelas that I used to watch when I was a kid. This is also the first time that I’m reading a BL story that pairs a Filipino and Thai as the main couple and includes International Students and other characters that gives a unique approach to the story.
Although I admit that the author has introduced a number of supporting and side characters at the early chapters of the story, which can sometime makes it confusing to tell who is who, I still find it interesting that she was able to give them differing personalities that often clash with the main character who is somewhat cold, snobbish, and expressionless. The complexity and uniqueness of Mount Juliet University also brings on a fresh take for a fictionalized university, the structure and social heirarchy of the student body reminds me of something that are used mainly on Anime, Japanese Dramas, and Korean Dramas. The author has also incorporated cultural references such as Fujoshis, Fudanshi, Yaoi, Fangirls, Fanboys, BTS, Thai BL pairings and shows which makes some of the scenes and characters relatable in some way.
The use of the university’s ROTC for most of the chapters gives it a militaristic concept, but the author was able to give the cadets a bit of individuality and personality on Chapter 10, which I wholly did not expect. Although they act and speak like soldiers, the author was able to put a fine line on them being cadets and an actual individual with feelings and emotions.
There are a number of cute and funny scenes that were presented, and I find it interesting that the author is detailed when writing the chapters, although she has admitted that she’s an ******* and that this is her first work, I commend her for being able to write and express her thoughts so thoroughly. Because each chapter is long and detailed, it usually takes time for the suthor to update her chapters, whIch is probably the downside of this work. But the wait is usually worth it.
