Fate/Inspired

What happens when a teensy bit odd but highly inspired inventor wakes up in the body of a teenager, in a magical world FULL of opportunity and adventure? Yes, opportunity and adventure, not insects, gods, daemons, people with raging boners for human experimentation and uh... the usual priest with basement full of you-know-whats. Maybe Shinji Matou wasn't the ideal starter pack for him but he was going to Tony Stark his way through it all the same! Who needed magic anyway when you could build a cool mech? He definitely wasn't stingy about the atrophied magical circuits, nope, not at all. - Fair warning, the MC is kind of a dick.

Stranger Danger

I sat on a bench in the park overlooking the Mion river that divides Fuyuki in half.

Or to be exact, it separates the cultured individuals of society like myself from the rabble. Please forget that most of my so-called wealth is just inheritance and I have zero feats to my name.

On that note, I found out why magi are so rich.

You can patent spells and formations you come up with, and each time anybody wants to use them, they have to pay you a certain amount of money. It's what gives the Tohsaka Family most of their wealth... which is then funnelled into... Kirei's daughter by the man who's acting in the capacity of a legal guardian for Rin Tohsaka.

Ohohoho... I am so gonna screw that guy over.

Tiamat was leaning over the railings and staring at the Fuyuki overpass that connects the two parts of the city with awe and wonder, "Humans made... that?"

"Yeah, and they also made nukes." I pointed out off-handedly, flipping a page in my book about local legends.

Did you know Fuyuki has a festival in the memory of a priest subjugating a Dragon God?

Yeah, that's probably a load of bull but... this is fate.

Where Oda Nobunaga actually burnt the heavens.

Now you might want to ask, 'Shinji, why is Diddy Zouken still around?'

Well, that's cause Sakura still hasn't woken up.

It's getting concerning now.

Tiamat got rid of the bugs and healed her up, so I don't get what the problem is.

I could try asking Rin but she's in London at the moment, studying at the Clock Tower, so that's a no go either.

"Nu-ks?" Tiamat tilted her head, glancing back at me curiously.

My newly acquired flip phone buzzed in response to her inquiry.

"Nukes. First deployed in the second World War by the United States of America in retaliation for the attack on Pearl Harbour. Estimated deaths near half a million in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I suggest acquiring one as a deterrent."

Ah yes, of course the AI suggests that I should have a nuke at my disposal.

"I was planning on that." I smiled slightly.

Is this what parents feel like when their kids do something amazing?

Of course the kid in this situation is a possibly genocidal artificial intelligence suggesting I acquire a weapon of mass destruction but... eh, don't mind the small stuff.

"I had thought so, sir."

Hey, what's that supposed to mean?

You're the genocidal one.

"And your name's Cortana. Don't judge me."

If you don't know how that works, shame on you, you uncultured swine.

Before you ask, Halo 4.

Yes, fight me.

"I would never judge my father." The phone buzzed monotonously.

Awww... I forgive you.

"Huh, amusing little thing you've got there." I heard a haughty voice talk from beside me but dismissed the person as one of those factory mode assholes.

"Yeah, thanks." I blew him off without looking and went back to my book.

Maybe I can raid the Matou library for information on magic circuit overexertion, the family's hundreds of years old so they have to have something right?

The guy just settled down next to me, and crossed one leg over the other. I knew because his black shoes nearly landed in my lap.

"Hmm... an amusing attitude for a mongrel."

Damn bro, Gilgamesh wannabe ahh.

I turned to look at him and-

Pause.

"What the fuck?"

"That is more along the lines of what I was expecting."

Slicked back blonde hair, crimson eyes, and an open neck shirt with a golden necklace.

You didn't need to be into fate to recognise this particular person.

He put a hand to his chin and narrowed his eyes at the phone in my pocket, "I was expecting you mongrels to take a century or more to put that together."

"Do not compare my father to the monkeys that popul-" I put a hand over my phone to silence her.

Since when did she become Geto?

"Hush now my genocidal little one."

The 'person' next to me regarded me with a curious gaze, processing Cortana's words before he burst out laughing.

By God it's the most obnoxious laugh I've heard in my life... but, I'll admit it's one the fits the King of Heroes.

"She is right. The mongrels of today are disgusting." Gilgamesh threw his head back and let out an amused laughter, "Hm, it seems coming here didn't waste my time."

Tiamat, perhaps sensing my sudden alarmed state, appeared behind me, putting a hand on the bench.

"...How'd you know?" I prodded carefully and curiously.

Gilgamesh's gaze briefly went to Tiamat before coming back to me, "Did you not expect to alarm the whole planet when you pulled your little stunt? I think an Evil of Man warrants even my attention."

Tiamat flinched under his words.

"Hey screw you, Tiamat's awesome."

Bro, stop trying to make my life harder.

Gilgamesh just shrugged his shoulders, "That's of no concern to me. But hm, you'll do for entertainment. I find myself bored with the usual as of late."

"I uhh... sure?"

I don't really know how to respond to that.

I'm not in any real danger because you know, Tiamat is right there and Gilgamesh can't do jack to her but... I'd prefer not to make enemies of the guy, he's cool.

"Hmm..." He narrowed his eyes again before looking in another direction, "There's nothing wrong with the girl. She's young and exhausted because of your actions."

Nodding to himself, the King of Heroes stood up and walked away, "Watch your step, mongrel."

Thank you for the cryptic warning that I one hundred percent understand, yes sir.

But no, really, he means the whole planet quite literally.

Not as in, everybody on it.

As in, the literal planet itself.

Oh well, I'm 12.

My actions don't have consequences.

"Shinjii?" Tiamat put a hand on my shoulder and leaned to the side to look at me.

You know, I'm pretty sure there's nothing she can wear that won't draw attention.

The olive blouse and navy jeans did NOTHING.

...Well, at least she was happy with the outfit.

Something about her first gift or something.

"Cortana, how far did we get on acquiring C4?" I closed my book and put it on my lap.

I'll think about how I'm now going to have Gilgamesh watching my ass later. Getting rid of Zouken is the first thing on my agenda.

"It will be deposited in the nearby forest."

"Do I have to worry about being tracked?" I asked curiously.

I might be able to build whatever I want but that doesn't mean my knowledge regarding the acquisition of materials and whatnot matches my skill in the department.

"No, the money was transferred from the account of someone entirely unrelated to you. I've acquired the location of our seller and if he goes back on his word, I will empty his coffers and link him to the enemies of the Cartel."

Turns out nothing is safe from an AI that has access to the internet.

Watch yourselves, people.

You know what I'm talking about.
