CHAPTER 2- THE TWO FRIENDS

Carin was a great help to Akira. She had assisted her in the packing and arrangement of the items in the boxes at their right places around the dorm. "I'm so exhausted", Akira stated. They both collapsed on the bed, trying to calm their nerves. "Akira" "Hmm…", she responded to her name, turning her face to Carin. Carin had a smile on her face "I'm glad to have you here with me" "Me too", Akira replied with a smile on her face too. They were both glad indeed, having grown up together they could practically be referred to as sisters and they viewed each other as that, not just best friends. "Okay!", Carin exclaimed getting up from her laying posture "It's girl talk time" Akira grinned. That was their cover name for 'all you the gossip you can spill time'. She too sat upright, legs crossed and ears itching for the information. "Guess who the hottest species here are by popularity votes?" "Wolves baby!", Akira replied. Carin shook her head, "It's Vampires, their athletic teams, oh my! It's to die for" Akira looked at her friend with a faked disappointment look, "Disowning your pack" Carin grinned, their childish drama was just about to start. "I'm a lone wolf", she proclaimed standing on the bed. Akira let out a dramatic gasp and fell off the bed to the ground. "Romeo!" "Romeo?", Akira opened one of her closed eyes. "I meant noooo!", Carin looked away flustered. Akira had already gotten up and pounced on Carin, caging her. "Who's Romeo?" "No one" Akira knew she was telling a lie. She grinned as thoughts of making her best friend spill the truth came rushing into her mind. "Fine! I'll talk", Carin had sensed danger and chose to avoid it. Akira groaned in disappointment releasing Carin. Carin got up from her lying posture, acting shy. "Romeo is my friend" Akira's eye were wide, she used her hands to urge her friend to go on talking. "We met last semester and became close friends, then we found out that we are mates" "What!", Akira exclaimed. Her mouth ajar and eyes became larger in size. "Yeah, we are", Carin assured shutting Akira's mouth. "That's good", Akira replied still in shock. Carin finding her mate had put her in a tense mode because she didn't want to think of anything mate, she really wasn't a huge fan of romance. Her mind began to recall her mom's words on their way coming. "Are you okay Akira?" Carin was worried on how Akira's demeanor suddenly changed "You're sweating?" "I am?", Akira noticed she had some sweat on her forehead "Oh, would you mind if I use the restroom real quick" "Wait!", Carin held her back "I'm sorry for not telling you earlier" "It's fine", Akira assured. "Akira!" Carin's exclamation brought her dismay to a halt. Akira sighed. "I'm not mad, I just need to process this. I'm happy for you truly" Carin nodded letting go of Akira's hand, "I'll see you tomorrow then" "Sure", Akira replied. With that Carin left. "What's wrong with me!", Akira's scowled herself. She felt like a bad friend for not telling Carin how she really felt. It wasn't something she could bring herself to tell her friend to avoid worrying her. As much as Akira was happy for Carin, she was worried of finding hers too before she had found her father. Everyone keeps on telling her that her father was gone and she shouldn't bother herself about looking for him, but, Akira could not bring herself to accept their statement. She needed to find out for herself. Just then her phone rang. "Hello" "Is this Akira speaking?" "Yes", she replied the rather funny voice. "What a lovely name" "Nice one Carin", Akira grinned ending the call. Minutes later, a guilty looking Carin showed up. "I know I said 'see you tomorrow' but I just couldn't leave", she whined in her defense "It's your first night here, and who else better to share this moment with you than me!" Akira was tearing up, she so much loved Carin. 'Cry baby", Carin hugged her "Homesick already" They spent the evening watching movies and eating snacks, then began their gossip. The cycle continued until they dozed off on their fourth movie.

The next morning Akira woke up feeling weird, it was unusual waking up to no noise. She yawned removing the piece of hair that was sticking to her mouth. "Morning Missy", Carin yawned turning to face Akira. Akira gasped holding back the laughter that threatened to escape as she stared at a messy looking Carin. "What?", Carin questioned. She thought Akira was choking. It was clear she was totally unaware of what had happened to her. "Your face! Your appearance!", Akira burst into a fist of laughter. Carin rolled her eyes, "Tsk! Childish" Akira erupted in more laughter's resulting to her falling of the bed. The fact that Carin referred to someone else as childish was more hilarious then her morning look. That was like a baby calling another baby childish for acting as a baby. Akira could bet that if the tables were turned her face would have been Carin's wallpaper for a whole week. 'Keep laughing you Missy, classes are in thirty minutes" Akira jumped up and ran to her toilet to quickly freshen up. Carin left too. Both girls made haste to be ready for their classes. Luckily for them, they had their first three classes together. "Finally! We're free! I swear I wanted to sleep as soon as lecture began", Carin lamented stretching her legs as both her and Akira made from class to their lockers. "You know I'm actually quite interested in researching further on what we learnt", Akira stated. She held unto her history textbook as she opened her locker to dump the books she wasn't needing for the next class. Carin gave her a questioning look, "What's interesting about it? You do know that this isn't our main course, right?" By main course Carin meant any teaching that was related to their species or realm. "Just call it curiosity", Akira grinned opening the page she folded; Chapter 16: Black Mist.
