Prologue

Starfly ran for her life. The Firefox was gaining on her, but she didn't look back. Tears fell from her eyes as she ran. She knew it was over; this was the end for her. But she kept running, until she came to the cliff. Sobbing, she turned her head up to the pup on her back. The little fox yipped in confusion as Starfly picked it up by the neck scruff and set it on the ground before her. "I love you, Twilight," Starfly cried. She picked the pup up, swung around once, and tossed it into the dark fog obscuring the other side of the ravine. She didn't wait to see if the pup landed. She turned to run along the edge of the cliff. But the Firefox had caught up with her. Starfly's legs stopped moving. "Your pup can run but there's nowhere it can hide where I won't find it," The Firefox said without moving its jaw. "You'll never have Twilight, they are stronger than you think, Firefox," Starfly strained. "But you are not, unfortunately for you," The Firefox replied. Flames creeped up to Starfly. She gave a strangled gasp as the fire licked at her paws, blacking the violet hue. "Twilight will save them," Starfly said quietly. Firefox stalked up to her, and leaned forward. "You're forgetting the other part of the prophecy," The Firefox whispered in her ear. " 'Or bring them to DOOM' ."
