Chapter 2

The little orange pup pawed around in the darkness, looking for more ground to walk on. It wasn't actually dark, of course; her eyes had simply not opened yet. She was a late bloomer. "You know what you are," came the resounding whisper. "You know." Flamecrackle jumped at the sound, ears and tail shooting up, neck fur standing on end. "G-go away," She whimpered. "S-s-stay away f-from me." She spun on her heel and ran, sparks flying from her paws, no sense of direction known to her. She fumbled in the endless black, with no way to tell if she was heading out of the woods, or further into them. The voice cackled, echoing through the empty, as flames escaped from Flamecrackle's heels. "Go on, then," it replied to her. "You know what I want." Flamecrackle stopped. "Yes, what you want," She paused. "B-but, I don't wanna end up l-like- like you... stuck in the darkness forever," She looked up. The red outline of a fox appeared. "Then open up your eyes," it answered. Slowly, the pup blinked her eyes open, and saw the light. She, too, had a red outline. "W-why?" She stammered. "Because," The red figure started, then stopped. "Well, you'll just have to figure that our for yourself, won't you. The answers..." Flamecrackle took a step closer, her red eyes sparkling with hope. "Yes, the answers, tell me how to find them!" She pleaded. "The answers..." The red fox repeated, fading into the trees. "...lie in Frostclan."
