Chapter 47: A Dangerous Proposition
Kelly arrived at the hospital a little past noon, after he reached her by calling her store’s phone. Jonathan’s nurse had changed by then, Janet introducing him to Greg at the end of her shift.
Jonathan had apologized profusely for wasting her time, but she had hugged him, and told him again that he could count on her for anything. Quietly, while the nurses were out of the room, she asked, “Are you okay, Jonathan?” and he had nodded. She pursed her lips, and said, “Okay.”
By then, however, he knew that something was off. He saw the burnt ruin of Page’s house. He’d sunk the glass shard into his throat, listened when Alphonse had…
‘So why do I still feel his shadow hanging over me?’ he thought to himself after Kelly left him.
He was left alone by the nurses for the most part, giving him time to think to himself.
And he wasn’t liking the thoughts he was having. It felt… as if something were missing.
