A Plan

"YOU DID WHAT?!" Noah screamed at Adam, who was by the kitchen counter trying to set up his new phone. As someone who has never used one, he was completely lost. Adam had the manual spread out in front of him as he held the phone away from his face in his left hand and tapped on it with his right hand's pointer finger.

"Adam??? Are you even absorbing how enormous and incredibly detrimental what you did was?? Adam, are you listening to me?" Noah continued to try to get Adam's attention. Adam sighed and looked up from the phone at Noah and sighed.

"Yes, Noah, I know. But instead of screaming and panicking like you I am actually trying to do something." Adam said calmly and looked back down at the phone, then started tapping the screen. He was finally able to set-up the phone and was now trying to text Eloise to meet up for lunch.

"Are you insane? That must be it, you've gone completely insane. You need a refresher course, that's all." Noah continued as if he didn't hear what Adam had said. "I'm not insane and I definitely do not need a refresher course. I'm telling you Noah, I felt something." Adam replied, he was standing now, he was a little bit taller than Noah so his stance seemed intimidating, "I know you felt it at the same time, and I know you were wondering what it was too." Adam said in a very serious tone.

Noah sighed and walked towards Adam's couch to sit down, "Alright, I did. But it didn't mean you had to stop her death Adam. This is demon 101, we never interfere in human events! You of all demons should know this."

"I know it, you don't have to repeat it. But I'm telling you I had to do it. Meet her and maybe you'll find out why. She doesn't belong here, Noah." Adam said firmly, he had relaxed a bit and sat back down on the stool by the counter and was facing Noah, "Besides, it already happened. I can't undo it, all I can do is figure out what to do now. And I'm hoping you'd stick by my side and help me figure a way out of this." Adam said to Noah.

Noah was quiet for a bit after that. He sighed and put a palm on his face. After a few seconds of silence Noah looked at Adam, "Of course I'll help you, it's my job to have your back and protect you. I was literally made to have your back, in case you forgot." He lifted his wrist again and the black feather tattooed on his wrist seemed to glow, Adam raised his wrist too, now both feathers were glowing.

Adam smiled at Noah and stood up, "Well you were made to collect the worst of the worst souls, having my back was just a plus." He said to Noah. "Shut up smart-ass and tell me what your plan is so far." Noah said back as he walked up to Adam on the counter.

"I'm supposed to meet up with her for lunch, I told her I'd 'text' her since I couldn't give her a number to contact," Adam said, "Here, do you wanna see what I texted her? I think it's very human." He continued as he handed the phone to Noah for him to read.

The text Adam had sent was read:

'Eloise. Hello. This is Adam's phone. Let me know lunch k?'

Adam was grinning from ear to ear, proud of his text, when Noah looked up from the phone. He cringed at Adam, "Have you not seen a single human movie or TV show?" Noah said, "This text is incredibly un-human bro." Adam frowned at Noah and grabbed the phone back from him. "Whatever, I already sent it." He said upset.

"So lunch, then what?" Noah prodded.

"Then I tell her the truth over lunch." Adam said nonchalantly.

"WHAT?!" Noah said, "That is quite possibly the worst idea you have ever had. You'll tell a human the truth. The whole truth?!"

"Obviously I won't dump it all on her at once, just the fact that I'm a demon and that I stopped her death today." Adam said.

"And then what? What could possibly come from telling her the truth? She'll agree to just die to help you?" Noah said, already getting frustrated.

"No, of course I don't expect that." Adam replied calmly, "I've done a little research over the years. And we can collect human souls not only after death."

Noah stared at Adam. The silence in the room was incredibly loud. "Adam, you can't possibly think that would work." Noah said incredibly dead serious, in almost a whisper.

"It's the only path I can think of right now, and I only have 19 hours left. If you have any better ideas, feel free to mention them." Adam said. Noah only stared at him and after a second he shook his head. "I thought so. Now come on, she just texted me where to meet her, I shouldn't be late." Adam said as he stood up, signaling to Noah to do the same to get ready to shift.

"This is the dumbest plan, ever." Noah said as he got up too.

"I know. But I have to try, she really doesn't belong here, Noah." Adam said as he looked out his apartment window.

"Let's find out then." Noah replied. Adam turned away from his window and faced Noah again. He nodded at him, and with that they both shifted back to earth to meet Eloise.
