Chapter 12: A Step Towards You

Juliet woke up late the next day. She had a good night's sleep after so many months.These past few months were really hectic for her. First the death of Jason, then the office works, the responsibility for her family, these all gave her a hard time to deal with. A sudden knock snapped her out of the thoughts. Jenni came in with the breakfast in her hands. Juliet asked "granny it's still early to have breakfast, it's still 6 in the clock!!!" Jenni made a questionable expression and said "it's 9:30 on clock! Are you not feeling well!? Should I call for a doctor?" Juliet gasped,"What!!!!!"

The next 30 minutes was like a tornado going on inside the house. Juliet was late already for office. She was wearing her heels while accusing her grandmother for not waking her up beforehand. She opened the main door as she flew towards her car. Her pace slowed down after she saw Duke, who was on leaning by the car wearing a brown suit complementing his complexion with his hair down unlike other days. When Juliet came more closer to the car her eyes met with his and the sudden thump of her heart was heard. Her cheeks blushed to the brightest colour of red leaving her looking like a tomato.

The whole ride was silent leaving the two beating hearts in a rapid pace. Juliet got in her office first and went to the washroom. Only then she could see how reddened she became, her cheeks were on full bloom releasing heat. Her ears were hot as well. She splashed the cool water over her face and tried to calm down her loud heart. Duke got into the office room after taking the everyday's routine coffee for Juliet. But as he didn't see anyone in the chamber he call out for her. Juliet also responded from the washroom as she was coming out of there with a towel in her hands. Duke saw her red face, though the reason was known already still he asked,"Are you okay?"

Juliet nodded and took the coffee from his hand. While taking the coffee her two fingers slightly brushed against his big palm giving a tingling sensation on her hand. The workday started.

Juliet and Duke both were hard working on the term of works. But today they both steal glances at eachother whenever it was possible.

Duke was surprised at his behaviour. He felt like someone else was controlling his body. Little did he know it was because of the love he felt towards Juliet. The lunch break came after the first half of the day was done. Juliet was still working on her desktop and after 10 minutes of till the lunch break started a knock was heard on the table. Juliet shifted her eyes from the computer screen to that particular individual whom he wanted to see properly from the morning. Duke was looking really handsome. Only stealing glances were not enough for Juliet to get satisfied now. She was looking at him devouring his all handsomeness at once.

Duke suddenly said, " Eat before you go back to work". Juliet snapped out of her daydreams. Leaving the computer in a standby mode she got up from her seat and went towards the table on the corner of that chamber's balcony. Duke placed a sandwich with extra cheese and a can of cold. Juliet lifted her face, "Where is your food?" Duke was surprised to hear the question. Though he always eat together in house but in the office they never ate together before. "I've a little work to be done with so I'll eat later. You enjoy your sandwich." Duke said while he turned to go back to his desk. A pair of hands grabbed his right hand leaving him in shock. "Eat before you go back to work" Juliet revised his words. Duke laughed while thinking she is acting cute repeating his own words. But deep down in his heart he liked these little changes."Bring your food here, we'll eat together on lunch from now on!" Juliet said while looking in Duke's deep eyes. Duke just smiled because he already knew his heart can never reject a request Juliet made while looking into his soul through his eyes.

After that day they both became a bit closer, in office or in home they started spending time that can be considered as "small quality time" with each other. They started to get to know eachother better. They were coming closer day by day with hanging out on weekends together and sharing each other's choices. And Juliet could feel that it was not only from her side. She felt like now she has someone whom she had to protect by any means,to give all her love and to share all her little secrets that she couldn't even with her granny. She knew that now she had a person on whom she can lean on when she is down and that person will silently welcome her in his arms for a warm hug without any questions. Juliet liked this in Duke the most that he never questioned more but always comforted her in every way possible.

While reading a book in her room before the bedtime she was thinking about these all things that has been happening lately. It made Juliet's heart a little lighter and a soft smile was dancing on the corner of her lips. She closed the book and placed on the side table. Putting her head on the pillow she whispered "good night Duke".
