Farnaz Hassan

The car stopped, and rather nervously Sameer and his parents entered the school. Sameer thought the building was beautiful. The cars were all posh, big and shining in the sun.

WISH I HAD A CAR LIKE THE ONES STANDING HERE, UNLIKE THIS PIECE OF JUNK WE HAVE.

There was a white building on which was aboard CORNWALL SECONDARY SCHOOL. On its right was a garden, which separated the secondary school from another small tower. A football field separated the small tower from another enormous building on which was a board CORNWALL HIGH SCHOOL.

"They have both sections," remarked Sameer.

His father nodded. The Hall, which they had entered were lighted up, and Sameer saw that there were children there along their parents.

"We are a bit late," his father murmured.

Sameer sat down on a sofa. A girl was reading. As Sameer sat down she said, "Hi!"

"Hello," said Sameer shyly.

"I am Farnaz Hassan," she said. The girl had black hair and laughing blue eyes.

"Sameer Mohammad," mumbled Sameer bashfully.

"Which house are you in?" she asked.

Sameer looked confused, "I am afraid I don't know," he stammered.

"Did you have your interview?" she asked him.

Sameer shook his head.

"I have had my interview," she said. "I came 10th, and I am in Yellow house. That's a pity. I was hoping that I would be in Red. They won the Premier Cup."

Sameer stared at her, he couldn't understand the stuff she was saying. He knew that it was difficult to interpret what girl said, but this was extraordinary. What did 'being in Yellow House' and 'Premier Cup' mean?

"I am afraid I don't understand."

"You don't know much about Cornwall, do you?"

Sameer shook his head again.

"Well, I can tell you because my cousin has been here, and she told me all about it. Four brothers, who had the nicknames Ackley, Caldwell, Natile and Brumstein founded Cornwall, which was their surname, as they founded the school, it went well for two years, before the twins had thought something silly like having some competitions. Natile and Caldwell picked fifty students on their own. They had four tournaments, volleyball, chess, football and academic, which Natile won. Then twins formed their houses, which were Red and Yellow, and put their fifty students in it. After seeing them Brumstein and Ackley also formed their houses. Next year, a quarrel broke out between ninth grader Natile and tenth grader Caldwell, that was a bloody and violent fight. Now Ackley the eldest had already died. And then you know what happened?"

"What?" asked Sameer excitedly.

"Natile and Caldwell went on a boat trip to talk things over. They never returned."

"What happened to them?"

"Caldwell drowned and Natile fled. It's rumored that Natile murdered Caldwell."

"Wow!" gasped Sameer.

"Since all three had gone, Brumstein, the youngest left. He was the type who had always love fights and quarrels. Well, to ensure that there was always some hot competition between the students, he started Premier Cup competition for four years. He did one good thing that he kept the high standard of education going. He died five years ago."

Sameer nodded, "Interesting. It's like a novel story."

"Yeah, it is."
