Evolution of the Last Nyre

This is the story of a 30 year old dead beat who unexpectedly dies. He's given a new shot at life but something doesn't feel right...wait HE'S A MONSTER! Our mc is one who seeks power but he wasn't always like that. Sphar (correct pronunciation is s-far) is an ancient forgotten monster called a Nyre, which is quite similar to a bat. He's gifted a system and completely abuses its power like all mc's do. This story is very slowly paced as I don't want to rush it. Time skips won't happen too often and if they do it won't be for long. His greatest desire is to explore the world, or at least it was..., but escaping his home will be a bit more tricky than he thought. Luckily his species is perfect for covert operations. Let the adventure begin! Authors note- I'm an inexperienced writer and I'm only doing this for fun. The story has a very slow start and the chapters are only 1.3k to 1.5k words long. I don't plan on locking chapters ever but if you want to support me, gifts are greatly appreciated. My release time will be a complete mess as this is only a hobby but I hope you enjoy the story. Btw the cover art is not mine, if you own it and want me to change it please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me on Insta, my user is Bandit_Candit

- Solo Isn't Easy (unedited)

"Hah!" I yelled, finishing off another small pack of wolves. I ended up choosing two quests to complete.

The first being defeat 35 wolves and the second was to eliminate the boss. I enjoyed subjugation quests more than any other types of quests just because they benifit me the most.

The funny thing is, the quests offered 2 skill points instead of one. I concluded that it had to be related to the difficulty of the quest since giving me the skill points due to my class rank would negate the difficulty of becoming stronger.

It was too convenient, so I was positive it was the former option. 'I'm quite confident I can take on this dungeon solo now, even without my weapon.' I thought as I gathered my loot once more.

So far I had only gotten a bunch of hides, fangs, and claws. That was nothing to scoff at though, I could still make a handful of silver with them.

'I just want to see what skills these guys drop. I could pay for the information, but I'm too cheap for that.' I jokingly thought as I continued searching the dungeon for the boss.

This dungeon behaved much different than the boar dungeon. The wolves weren't scared of me until I had killed nearly the full pact. The last 2 or so wolves always tried to run away.

Also, the boss wasn't directly in the middle of the Dungeon like the Boar Dungeon. 'It must have a den somewhere with a terrain advantage, or maybe it just wanders around the entire dungeon as it pleases.'

It wasn't impossible, I honestly had no idea what to expect with this dungeon, and they only get more complicated and unpredictable from here.

'Ill need to start researching about monsters behaviors, skills, and their dungeons. Going in blind in higher ranked dungeon could very well be the end of me.' I thought as I broke through the brush and saw a huge cliff with the moon shining its elegant light on it.

A giant wolf with several horns on its head and spikes on its tail layed asleep with what looked like a group of around 20 regular mobs.

I surveyed my surroundings, the way leading to the top of the cliff was filled with destroyed rubble and huge rocks that seemed out of place.

There were also spikes at the bottom of the cliff, so falling off wasn't an option. My wings took care of that though, so I could fully focus on the fight.

'Taking out the minions first would make things more convenient, but I'm not sure how many I can take out before the boss wakes up' I contemplated the situation for a bit before coming to a decision.

'I'll just silently stab as many as possible before things get wild, then assume a defensive position and finish off the rest while negating the boss.'

I got up and silently approached the first wolf, however, it immediately woke up and retreated. It howled and woke up the rest of the pack, including the boss.

'Damn, I would've been better off using [Thunder] several times' I charged towards the nearest group of wolves.

The one to my right tried to bite me, but I grabbed it by it's throat and stabbed it. I slung it at the other two wolves to give myself some space, and went after another small group.

I cast [After Image] which worked for a while. I killed around 10 of the wolves while using my clone to distract them, until they finally realized that it was harmless.

I ordered it to return to me and we started switching locations and mixing our identities to buy more time.

This didn't work though, as the wolves immediately targeted me again. 'They must realize the one with the scent is the real enemy'

With those thoughts I cast [Electric field] and started exerting myself to my full speed, taking out all the wolves around me in mere seconds, though it cost me around 1/3rd of my stamina.

The boss wasn't just standing around and watching however. I didn't notice it as I was distracted, but it had been charging a huge purple colored attack on its largest horn on it's forehead.

'Damn, how did I miss that!' I flew in the air as soon as I saw the wolf finally move, signaling the use of it's skill.

A huge purple beam shot forward under me, hitting another rocky cliff a bit higher up than the boss area.

Once the beam made contact, rubble exploded everywhere, coating the battle field in more debre.

'So that's how all these rocks got here. What a strong attack.' I thought as I descended to the ground.

The boss was already charging at me though. One second it was in front of me, then it disappeared.

*SHICK*

[You've been dealt 153 damage]

My body instinctively moved to the right, avoiding a fatal blow narrowly, resulting in my left arm getting deeply pierced with a horn from the boss.

It quickly jumped back and readied itself for another attack. 'What the hell was that? Did he teleport or did his speed increase to the point I couldn't see him?' I entered another mental delima.

'Extreme speed would be really useful right about now' I Complained as I cast [Dark Cloak] And readied myself to implement more magic into my assault.

The boss repeated the same attack, disappearing before me. I took a random guess at where it would attack and dodged.

Actually, I just jumped in the air, knowing it wouldn't go for an arial attack. I used that moment to counter its attack with everything I had.

I coated each of my claws in a [Dark Slash] and swiped with all of my might. "FIVE LAYERED SLASH!" I yelled as five slices deeply etched themselves into the huge boss.

I didn't waste the chance as I cast [Thunder] for the short stun and extra damage, before stabbing the boss twice in its side before it retreated to a safe distance.

It was heavily injured as it didn't have much vitality. Its main focus was agility and Dexterity.

The boss was heavily panting as it's wounds were steadily bleeding, inching death closer and closer to its existence.

I cast another [Thunder], which barely landed. My fastest attack still barely made contact with a heavily injured Boss, that should demonstrate just how fast this thing was.

My thunders didn't do much damage, but it was enough to keep the boss on it's toes so I could slowly advance to an opening and finish this fight.

I charged at the boss, and as a final rush of adrenaline, it did the same as rage filled it's eyes. It disappeared once more, leaving a splatter of blood in the air.

It started appearing and disappearing all around the battle field, slowly advancing towards me from every direction.

Blood was left in the air every time it changed positions. 'So it is just it's speed, all that moving has to be damaging it even further. This really is it's last stand'

My mana was nearing depletion due to my surplex of magic attacks and keeping my [Dark Cloak] active for so long.

The boss finally appeared behind me to my right. I slung my final [Dark Slash], leaving me with so little magic I couldn't cast anymore spells.

It disappeared again however as it appeared behind me once more. I was in the middle of an attack, so dodging wasn't an option, and I couldn't counter.

"DAMNIT!" I shouted as I flexed my entire body as hard as I could in hopes of lessening the damage. It landed a clean swipe of claws across my back, digging deep ridges in my muscles.

I was slung forward, rolling down the cliff until finally crashing into a piece of rubble, further damaging myself.

[You've been dealt 301 damage]

My Hp was nearly depleted and my mana was finally hitting the last of it's supply. My [Dark Cloak] disappeared as I was left completely open.

However, all the feints the boss pulled off with such heavy injuries seemed to finally take its tole as it fell to the ground, motionless just like me.

I slowly crawled up the hill, until finally stumbling onto my feet with the help of some more broken rocks, my back shooting pain through my entire body every step I took.

I approached the boss and leaned against it's throat. I paused for a few moments, trying to think of some final words before it's death, however nothing came to mind.

Most adventurers usually had some sort of saying after winning a tough battle, but my mind was blank.

I decided to remain silent as I repeatedly stabbed it's throat, using the last of my stamina to finish the job.
