Evolution of the Last Nyre

This is the story of a 30 year old dead beat who unexpectedly dies. He's given a new shot at life but something doesn't feel right...wait HE'S A MONSTER! Our mc is one who seeks power but he wasn't always like that. Sphar (correct pronunciation is s-far) is an ancient forgotten monster called a Nyre, which is quite similar to a bat. He's gifted a system and completely abuses its power like all mc's do. This story is very slowly paced as I don't want to rush it. Time skips won't happen too often and if they do it won't be for long. His greatest desire is to explore the world, or at least it was..., but escaping his home will be a bit more tricky than he thought. Luckily his species is perfect for covert operations. Let the adventure begin! Authors note- I'm an inexperienced writer and I'm only doing this for fun. The story has a very slow start and the chapters are only 1.3k to 1.5k words long. I don't plan on locking chapters ever but if you want to support me, gifts are greatly appreciated. My release time will be a complete mess as this is only a hobby but I hope you enjoy the story. Btw the cover art is not mine, if you own it and want me to change it please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me on Insta, my user is Bandit_Candit

- Information Is Needed (unedited)

I layed on the grass until morning, using every moment to try to recover from my injuries. It seems the regeneration process is much more complicated than just some numbers.

The type of injury and how many also affect how long it takes to regen hp and stamina. Also, the body seems to prioritize hp over everything else, then stamina, then mana.

All the monster bodies had already disintegrated into smoke and drifted away into the sky as the hours went by.

The birds chirping in the early morning finally signalled the start of another new day before the sun could make it's presence known.

I slowly sat up, the wounds on my back opened back up as a fresh wave of pain rushed through me.

I toughened it out and slowly walked my way out of the dungeon after picking up all the drops. I didn't bother to check what they were at the moment as my main priority was to make it to my home so I could grab my school uniform and go wash off in the river.

After nearly an hour of walking, I finally made it back to my humble home. I grabbed my uniform and headed to the river, Laori was already gone.

'I must be falling behind schedule, I need to pick up the pace or I'll miss class' I thought while practically dragging myself to the river.

However, right before I made my presence known, I saw Laori in the river bathing. 'I'm not as far behind as I thought'

I broke the tree line and limped my way to the river. He noticed me and immediately covered his chest and yelled at me.

"Calm down, I'm just here to wash off. I had a long night" I complained as I slowly took off my ripped cloak and my other gear.

'I'll need to buy new armor this afternoon after my training' I thought as I slowly walked into the ice cold river.

Laori seemed to notice my body as It was covered in heavy wounds and plenty of scars from my previous endeavours.

He quickly realised the situation as he got out, wrapped his chest and waist in bandages, and came over to help me. The weird thing was that his face was extremely red.

I didn't pay it any mind as I was purely focused on trying to clean my wounds. He assisted me into the deepest part of the river as the cold water rushed past.

My muscles felt like they were being torn all over again before they had a chance to recover thanks to the running water, but I knew it was necessary.

"Want to tell me what happened?" He asked while closely examining my back. "These look like-" I cut him off.

"I fought the Shenfou Wolf Boss last night and it surpassed my expectations for a E+ ranked dungeon." I said.

"You faught a boss by yourself? Are you insane?!" He yelled, his voice reaching a strangely high pitch most guys could never hope to achieve.

"I always fight solo. I just didnt think there would be such a huge difference in the Boss's strength from the E rated Boar Dungeon" I said as I motioned to head back to the bank.

"The Wolf's Den is one of the strongest E+ ranked dungeons that exist. You're lucky to even be alive right now." He said in a worried tone.

"Next time you feel the need to fight solo, you better tell me so I can go with you." He said while turning around, making sure not to look at my body out of the water.

I put on my uniform and headed towards the city, leaving my destroyed cloak on the bank and dropping off the rest of my gear back at our home.

The walk to the Institute took longer than usual but we weren't too late. Laori said his goodbye's and ran to his class.

I finally arrived to my classroom. I refused to spend money on healing potions if they weren't absolutely necessary since I desperately needed to save up money.

"Look who took their time getting here." Teacher Brolin said as he looked at me with a disappointed expression. "Sorry, I got caught up in some trouble" I replied before heading to my seat.

I tried my best to hide my injuries but I'm sure some people noticed my odd movements, including the teacher. Thabkfully, Lily and Corey didn't realize anything.

'Ill ask her to heal me later if she wants to' I thought before focusing on the class. Today was just more information about meditating until the last portion of class, where we practiced it again.

If your mana pool wasn't full, then meditation wouldn't increase your mana cap, but instead speed up the regeneration process several folds.

Teacher Brolin said it would come in handy in more situations than one would originally think. I was sold on the topic from the very beginning however.

Class soon ended like usual and instead of immediately leaving the Institute, we went to meet up with Laori in the training grounds.

"Hey, why are you walking like that Sphar?" Lily asked while poking my shoulder, which made me wince in pain.

"Are You hurt!? Why didn't you tell me before!!" she nearly yelled in the halls, causing the passing students to give us weird stares. 'She sure has a bad habit of screaming in public' I thought.

"I didn't want to bother you in class and gather everyone's attention, it would've been inappropriate. I would greatly appreciate it if you healed my back and left arm though" I told her as I took off my shirt.

I never really noticed it before, but my body was changing really quickly. When I first evolved I was in shape, but I was skinny and had no definition.

Now I had pretty solid abs and defined arms, though they still lacked in mass. Lily's face got really red for a bit before she regained her focus.

"These wounds are serious! Just what did you do to get these?" She asked while trying her best to heal the wound on my left arm first.

She seemed to be struggling, but I couldn't expect perfection from a rank 1 healing spell. "Long story short, I tried to solo a boss and barely came out on top" I replied.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!" she yelled, stopping her healing magic and landing a clean blow to my shoulder, making me recoil from the pain.

She then snatched my arm back and resumed the healing process. "You should think about others before making reckless decisions" She mumbled.

"Noted" was my only reply. Silence followed for the next couple minutes as Lily focused intensely on healing me, sweat was forming on her face as she exerted herself.

Corey already left and headed to the training ground first to update Laori on the situation. After a while, my arm was fully healed! But Lily looked like she needed a break before trying to heal my back.

"Don't push yourself so much, you can finish the rest later if you want" I told her as I put my shirt back on. We continued our walk to the training grounds.

I felt better, but I was still in a lot of pain since the claw marks on my back were the main injury. They were so deeply etched you'd think I wouldn't be able to walk anymore due to injury of my spine.

'I guess I have the system to thank for that'. We finally arrived as Corey and Laori were finishing a duel that Laori clearly won with little effort.

Corey looked pretty down about the whole thing, but Laori was quick to cheer him up. "Don't feel bad, Mages are typically weak in a one on one match with a fighter until their later tiers".

It didn't seem to work though as Corey just pouted and joined up with me and Lily. "I'll see you guys later. I have my training to attend ad well as some errands to run" I told them as I walked to the forge room.

The other three departed for the guild to do some quests and save up more money. 'First, I need to grab my scythe and its new holster. Second, attend my training' I continued.

'Then I need to stop by the sword master and buy a couple of combat abilities, preferably physical enhancement ones. Then last but not least, buy some new armor.'

'Now that I think about it, I've been using that cloak since I wiped out that goblin village. It was due for replacement soon anyways.'
