Chapter 8: The Betrayal of fate

After learning the reason behind his college rejection, Bharat left the principal's office looking pale and headed home to see his parents to find out if the principal's remarks about his father were accurate. After riding his bicycle for thirty minutes, he arrived at his house, where he went to find his parents.

His mom Mrs. Arundhati asked: "You returned early, son, and you went to look at the college's selection list. I knew you would be accepted to study at Rajgarh College, so did you already purchase all of your books and uniforms for the upcoming semester?"

Bharat was quiet; he did not answer his mom right away since he did not know how to answer her. Should he tell her that he was not selected in Rajgarh College and he was rejected in view of the fact that there were sanctions on this father or should he not inform her?

His dad noticed the expression on his son's face and perceived that something was not right so Mr. Brahma asked: "What happened to you, son? You don't appear to be all right. You seem to be having a bad day. Could you tell me what's bothering you?"

Bharat spoke to his father with a gloomy face and a hint of sadness: "Dad, my application for admission in the Rajgarh College has been rejected."

Mrs. Arundhati exclaimed: "What!! That should not be right, there must be some mistake somewhere by the university administration."

Bharat said to his mother: "Mom, I even went to the principal office in the administrative building of the college and the principal has confirmed to me that I am not eligible to get admission in Rajgarh College."

Mr. Brahma said: "Tell me the whole thing clearly what happened there when you went to the principal's office."

Bharat told everything to his father: "Dad the principal said that there are some kind of sanctions on you and due to which I am also unable to get admission and not eligible for Rajgarh college."

Bharat asked his father again with a questioning gaze: "Dad is this true that there is some kind of sanctions on you and if there is then why did they put sanctions and who put sanctions on you? Please tell me."

Mr. Brahma looked tense and he mumbled some words to himself: "They put sanctions on me to punish me and won't let me get a job that's fine. However, why did they stop my son from getting admission in college? What did he do? Now it is time that I have to confront them myself regarding this."

Bharat asked: "Who punished you and for what reason? And whom do you want to confront?"

Mr. Brahma did not answer any of Bharat's questions and looked tense and hyper. He got up from his seat and said: "Arundhati I will not let those unethical people destroy my son's dreams and career as well I have to confront them."

Mrs. Arundhati looked worried and said: "Darling you don't have to confront them. They are very powerful people with high connections and we do not stand a chance against them."

Mr. Brahma said: "No, I cannot let them destroy my family one by one. I have to confront them and do not stop now."

Bharat looked at the scene alarmingly as his dad was so aggressive at that point of time he came to know that a lot has been going on in his parent's life about which he did not know a single thing.

Mrs. Arundhati knew that her husband was not in his right mind now so she tried to stop her husband.

Mr. Brahma said: "Let me go Arundhati you don't have to worry once I confront Tiger Bhai everything will become normal Aaaahhh what's happening why I am feeling so much pain in my chest."

All of a sudden Mr. Brahma felt like something was piercing his chest and he had an unbearable chest pain as something had stuck on his chest. He clutched his chest and sat down on the floor and started to jerk his body violently, throwing up his arms and legs.

To Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat's horror they saw that Mr. Brahma had fallen on the floor and started twitching so both of them held Mr. Brahma and took him to the bed and put him slowly there on the bed.

Mrs. Arundhati shouted at Bharat and said: "Bharat your dad is having a Heart Attack, call the Ambulance quickly and dial the emergency number. We have to reach the nearest hospital as soon as possible."

Bharat did not waste any more time and hurriedly dialed the Ambulance number to call luckily the emergency service in the Rajgarh town was very good. The Ambulance came within five minutes.

Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat quickly left for the nearest hospital with Mr. Brahma and admitted him in the hospital. Bharat did all the signatures on the forms regarding the mandatory forms for giving permission to the hospital to perform the necessary procedures and then they took Mr. Brahma into the Operation Theater.

Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat sat together just outside the operation theater with a tense atmosphere.

Mrs. Arundhati kept on praying to God to save her husband somehow this once otherwise she will not be able to live without him as she loves him so much also Bharat was also not so mature and not even an adult yet so who will look after them.

Bharat sat there with his mom holding her and started shedding tears of sorrow and he also prayed to all the Gods he knew in his mind: "God please save him I will make sure to work harder in life please save him this time."

Both Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat sat there outside the operation theater stiffly as if they were not breathing at all and kept praying to God constantly since they could not do anything. Only god can save Mr. Brahma now as they were helpless in this situation.

The doctors emerged from the Operation Theater after nearly an hour.

Doctor came up to Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat and said: "You must be the relative of Mr. Brahma right."

Mrs. Arundhati was very tense and nodded with anticipation while Bharat was holding her.

Doctor said: "Let me tell you that Mr. Brahma is out of immediate danger for now, however it seems that there are heart blockages. In order to confirm that we need to perform Angiography to detect the blockages and if required we also need to do Angioplasty to remove the blockages."

Bharat said: "Yes doctor we are ready for this please save my dad."

Luckily they have got the medical insurance done in time in which they have a medical coverage package of around 5 lakh rupees so they agreed right away with the doctor.

So after the successful operation his dad was in the hospital for two weeks and then released with a series of medicine which Mr. Brahma had to take and also doctor prescribed to have a certain kind diet and restrictions on some kind of food and drinks. So Mr. Brahma's lifestyle was completely going to change and he would not be able to work anymore as he has to take bed rest for at least a month.

Time went by and Bharat and Mrs. Arundhati nursed Mr. Brahma wholeheartedly so that he can recover and after one month's time it seemed their efforts paid off since Mr. Brahma was able to stand on his feet however it seemed that it will still take a lot of time before he can walk properly and more time to go out of the house or to go for work.

So they took Mr. Brahma in a cab and went to the clinic and consulted the doctor who had done the operation on Mr. Brahma.

Following Mr. Brahma's examination, the physician arrived and took a seat in front of the family behind his desk. Brahma and Arundhati occupied the opposite side of the room, with Bharat standing behind them.

Mrs. Arundhati said: "Doctor Please let us know if his health has improved at all."

Doctor said: "Mrs. Arundhati, your husband's health is improving a lot and he seems to be recovering at a faster pace. His heart condition has also improved and soon he will be able to leave the medication as well."

Mrs. Arundhati said with a relieved expression: "Thank god he is recovering and gaining health and thank you doctor for saving my husband since due to your treatment and advice my husband is alive today."

Mr. Brahma said: "Doctor, when I will be able to go out and work I am really worried since it seems like I don't have any strength in my body and I feel too weak."

Doctor informed: "Mr. Brahma please try to understand that this was a major Heart attack which has decreased your physique and weakened your body a lot so it is a miracle that you are at least able to stand on your feet and walk a little bit for now. I think the previous kind of strength and physique is very difficult to achieve and you may never go out for a prolonged period of time. It will be better if you start looking for some work from home options."

Mr. Brahma was of the older generations and he was not sure if he would get any job here in Rajgarh town or any work from home jobs. Faced by the harsh reality of life Mr. Brahma was astonished and saddened.

Mrs. Arundhati and Bharat thanked the doctor and left with Mr. Brahma and went home.
