Inherent Skills

In a private room in the ancestral home of the Yinbi household, our main character sits cross-legged on an enormous bed in concentration. Yinbi Long(concealed dragon) is his name, and aptly so considering what is to come. In front of Long, a slight shimmer is seen, which quickly morphed into a book. Summoned without chant, and quickly too. This would give a great shock to anyone who has or knows in detail about grimoires. The book itself seems unassuming at first glance until you realize it's floating. The bronze-colored book has an ancient feel to it, one much more potent than other grimoires. It was smaller than average, though had an overwhelming presence, a presence hidden by its mediocre size and looks. As Yinbi Long opened his eyes and gazed at the book, he could not help but think that it was quite majestic, though he could not tell why.

'This is the moment, the path I take depends on my [inherent skill]'

The inherent skill, a skill bestowed to those contracted to a grimoire. Something unique to a person and normally unable to be replicated. Not all grimoire users have one, they are not guaranteed. Even so, he was sure he would have one given his circumstances. He opened the book, eager to see what was inside. The first page of the grimoire held a portrait of himself, along with a name and his strength.

Name: Yinbi Long

Rank: [Mortal]

'Nothing particularly new there, although I don't like my portrait. It has the gaze of a man that has gone nuts'

Thought Long as he turned the page.

Inherent Skills:

[The Anomaly]: Due to your origin your soul has gone through a blender, been mashed up, chewed and spit out, and then kneaded back into a roundish shape that resembles something like a soul. This has left your soul more or less immune to anything thrown at it by it already being in a state worse than what the attack could do. Your soul has absurd regeneration and can come back from a sliver, though it can never heal to a proper form as it has already healed misshapen. Additionally, your soul does not reside in your body and is housed in your grimoire controlling your body remotely. If your body dies it is reformed in the grimoire. This Inherent skill is at max level.

'My soul has been through a lot. Apart from the part about my body being a soulless husk, I'm thankful that this is not just a demerit. Although this begs the question, am I immortal now? That was… easy... that was half the point of cultivation…'

Long thought with slight emptiness and relief as he continued to read.

[The forgotten]: You are the forgotten, the one that although can be seen, cannot be remembered. All those that look away from you forget of your existence except for those that you choose. The code is the only one that can remember, but only because it is always connected to you. The only form of perception that works on you is that of the naked eye. This Inherent skill is at max level.

'Is this why I have never had to answer to any of my actions? Luckily it seems all my family remembers me! Looks like I exempted them from its effects on instinct.'

[The businessman]: All can be traded with, including the code. Able to make contracts with binding power, though they all must be fair, in one context or another. The code no longer gifts you directly but instead gives you points to trade for what you want. This Inherent Skill is at max level.

'Now this one is downright OP! With just this, I'm set! I don't even have to worry about the time it will take to get points! I'll be ignored by the powerful with my second skill after all.'

Yinbi Long excitedly turned the next page. It seemed those three Inherent Skills took up a whole page.

[The human]: They say that a human has infinite potential, that was a lie. With this, it becomes the truth. Although you will reach bottlenecks they will not stop you for a lifetime. Be diligent, and you'll find why even gods sometimes fear ants. This Inherent Skill is at max level.

'Your right, it was a lie. Although I know all this is an apology gift from a god, does it have to be so exaggerated? Are they fine doing all this? I'm sure I'm overthinking this, so I'll just accept it as is.'

[The repository]: A library in your head they'd say. They'll never know how right they were. A space in your mind dedicated solely to the information you have gathered. Knowledge is sorted into books by your preference as if you had been working on it for eons. Knowledge is also marked to be confirmed or not. A reminder, for not all knowledge, is credible. Only works on Knowledge acquired after the skill was obtained. Boosts other inherent skills based on knowledge obtained. This Inherent Skill is at max level.

'This will make things easier. Knowledge is power, and it seems the Inherent Skill agrees'

Long continued looking down the page.

[The Beastmaster]: For they work and they toil for they are loyal. Summons that are loyal to you gets a boost in power proportional to their loyalty. Those that have absolute loyalty get treated as guardian beasts and can be summoned indefinitely. Humans that have absolute loyalty, trust, or love get treated as guardian beasts as well, but get no strength boost.

'So a loyal waifu is immortal? I have an instinctual feeling of all those this works on and I feel that my waifu is immortal through trust. Gotta get it through love in the future or I'll feel like I have failed as a man'

Thought Long as he once again turned the page.

[The sealing master]: All things can be sealed, though most will never come to understand how. You are a natural sealing master, and even without foundational knowledge can seal beings stronger than you on instinct alone. Obtain the proper knowledge and maybe you can seal the heavens themselves. This Inherent Skill is at max level.

'I always did like the concept of seals. It just gives me the goosebumps of how a terrifyingly strong being gets sealed by seemingly weak barriers or chains! Runes are going to be my go-to for this skill. Looks like the next is the last Inherent Skill'

[The jinx]: A walking curse. Bad luck incarnate. Those that have ill will towards you or those close to you will be having a really bad time. Works on those that have all-encompassing plans. If someone tries to raise a continent you're in, they just might find themselves bogged down by every enemy they have ever made all at the same time. They didn't plan it, but they won't complain. This Inherent skill is at max level.

'Jinx? Although nifty and true even before reincarnation, it hurts to be labeled as such. Although my previous life is pretty fuzzy except for the novel Long Live Summons, I have a distinct feeling of trauma toward being labeled a jinx. Well, that's it for Inherent Skills. Pretty OP stuff. I guess it's all max leveled as part of the gift. All that's left is my guardian beast, then I'll start sorting the information I got when I first contracted the grimoire'
