Late into the night following the graduation ceremony of the winter solstice class of Essence Weaver, the Headmaster of the Mage’s Academy, the Ascended Zekant, stared at the name on the top of the paper before him. The list of those who had passed their tests, a list given to him by the Emperor’s Chamberlain, Michael. The implications made his stomach turn with worry. At the top of the list was the name of his grandson, Daniel, and next to his name were the assigned orders. “I’ve failed then,” the Headmaster thought to himself.
